The Superhero Cinematic Civil War - Part 60

I think its only right that Hugh properly ends his tenure with rocking the costume. Its a perfect bookend.

Omg i wonder if reynolds is crazy enough to get all the OG X cast in the Jim Lee suits? :hmr::hmr:
A huge coup for Deadpool to get all this in his first MCU film (and after a sequel I didn't think was too hot (after loving the first)).

If Hugh had been given that exact costume in the first movie 23 years ago, what do you think the reaction would have been?

I think normal people would have laughed it out of the theater. A post Batman & Robin world was logically trying to be very subdued with capesh*t. Hell, the reaction some people are giving now to this pic is leftover, secondhand embarrassment nerds have because of how, historically, our beloved heroes were looked at as silly for a long time.

I remember when the first pic of Fassbender in the Sebastian Shaw helmet from First Class dropped, I was showing it off at the comic shop I worked at--and every customer was clowning on it for looking "cheesy, like the comics."

While I wish we had comic accurate X-Men costumes from the beginning--I get why they didn't do it, then. The real problem is why they avoided it for so long after Spider-Man came out.

I legit thought that pic of Hugh in the yellow suit was a bad fan photoshop. Yeah… maybe they shouldn’t try and adapt all superhero costumes to live action because that looks like trash IMO.

Don’t get me wrong, I hate those stupid leather suits too. But this… I don’t know, maybe it’s just the color but I’m not a fan.

I think they're saving the brown costume for MCU Wolverine, whenever that will be.

Frankly, the fan logic going around this morning for the yellow costume is one I'd never thought of before--Logan can take bullets, so wear a bright color to draw fire away from the rest of the team that can't take it. That's a new theory, but one I could easily see them adopting to the comics, like Frank Miller rationalizing the yellow oval for Batman's costume.

Besides, the yellow won't look so silly once it's blood splattered. Thank goodness for the film's R-rating :o

As for my thoughts? It's about ****ing time. I didn't get disappointed when Hugh decided to come back, though I found Logan a perfect place to end it (and meta-textually, it does lose some punch with it no longer being his final performance in the claws)... but the fact that they're finally giving him the suit justifies it. Hugh deserved the chance to wear the duds.

I have a list of things I want to see Wolverine do in live action:

* Say "Bub" and the catchphrase ("I'm the best there is...")
* Fight Juggernaut, Omega Red and Sabretooth
* Wear the costume
* Destroy a Sentinel
* Mentor a teenage X-Man (Jubliee/Kitty/etc)
* Fall in love with Mariko and fight Shingen
* Berserker rage
* Be an effective/mature leader figure
* Be petty and aggressive

...so Hugh has done nearly everything I want to see in a perfect live action run. The last one I really need is facing off with a Sentinel (on camera, this time) and the man will have had a legendary tenure.

Man after this I just want to see Hulk vs Wolverine. That is just money in the damn bank.

Come on Feige…

I think that's getting saved for MCU Wolvie. If not,
if the rumors of Hugh and other Fox heroes being in Secret Wars are true, maybe Hugh can get into a dust-up with Hulk as a little tease?

Yeah it would be the perfect vehicle to introduce MCU Wolvie. But you also have a point

I can’t see Hugh not having a role in Secret Wars

Was expecting/hoping for that for MCU Wolverine’s debut (to honour the comics,… and because it’d be awesome lol). If Hulk rights are back throw him in everywhere.

Precisely, and now they've set a precedent with this costume having sleeves--Hugh doesn't have to work as hard on his body now. Just keep some respectable bulk and then the costume can cover the rest. When Hugh was announced to return, Secret Wars was a lot closer (hence why the rumors made sense to me), and now that it's been pushed back, Hugh trying to maintain that peak physique at this age would be too much of a strain. But Hugh busted his ass in the past for that body and the effort showed--he earned a rest from it, as far as I'm concerned.

The apparent return of so many other Fox characters for DP3 (now confirmed by THR) certainly lends credence to the idea of Fox characters in SW. If you're getting Hugh and others back, why not use them to infuse SW with more interest? Seeing Tobey Maguire, Hugh Jackman and others fighting alongside MCU heroes (including, I presume, a one-time reappearance from RDJ and Evans) would get Infinity War level hype all over again, and it would be a splendid cinematic triumph for all those returning actors to go out on, letting us say a real goodbye to them in spectacular fashion.
