I liked the Snyder Cut of JL. Not really sure why. Maybe it was a combination of it being an improvement over Josstice League and BvS and also just coming out near the end of a long entertainment drought due to Covid. It's overlong and way too self indulgent but to me, Sucker Punch is still the biggest piece of **** Snyder has ever made. If Rebel Moon is worse than that I'll be thoroughly amused when I watch it this time next week. :o

You guys have to understand something though, this is entirely Netflix's strategy that they've been implementing for years. They dont care about reviews or reception or any of that stuff for their movies, it’s all about publicity and social media engagement. Look at almost all of their high profile movie releases starring A list talent or with A list directors that ended up being garbage or had abysmal RT scores: it still still gave them clicks and engagement and publicity. That last Gal Gadot movie that came out a few months ago that i couldnt even finish past the first 20 minutes-- it ended up getting high viewing numbers. The Gray Man, 6 Underground, Red Notice...these movies give them #'s. I think they knew exactly what they were doing by engaging a controversial director like zack snyder, they didnt really care if his movie turned out good so long as it results in viewing #'s which it likely will just like with those others.
You might have a point. Netflix has such a massive quantity of varied material built up that any individual title (aside from the likes of Stranger Things) turning out terrible isn’t really the end of the world and becomes a talking point and part of the Netflix experience. Disney + on the other hand needs Star Wars/Marvel/Pixar/Classics to be good to justify maintaining the sub.

Admit it. You’re one of those Snyder folk who voted for Snyder Cut in that Oscar’s Cheer Moment!

Nah but really, Is it bad that after all these years I’ve never seen Sucker Punch?

Honestly I'd rewatch Sucker Punch over ZSJL any day
At least that movie knew when to end, plus I thought it was visually cooler than anything in Justice League
Video Game cutscenes can still be pretty

I see there's tremendous rage over Snyder getting to make a film. If you don't like him, just watch something else. None of us will ever be able to watch all of the movies that are worth watching.

Personally, I'm looking forward to Rebel Moon, it's an original story from a director with a voice, one who pursues interesting themes, and also happens to be one of the rare likeable people in Hollywood, who also has genuine diversity in his movies.

I hope that Rebel Moon is as good as Army of the Dead and the Justice League, and substantially better than BvS.

You're not missing anything not having seen Sucker Punch. Any time Snyder is given free reign to do something original it always ends up either terrible (Sucker Punch) or boring (Army of the Dead).

It's Seven Samurai/The Magnificent Seven/Star Wars with a Snyder coat of paint. We've seen it all before.

Netflix does well by making a lot of amazing properties.

If Only
Chimp Empire
Stranger Things
Rise of the Ottoman Empire.
Castlevania

Are some recently excellent ones.

My kids enjoy Gabby's Dollhouse and Unicorn Academy. I catch parts of them, they're very sweet shows.

I'd like to see them make a better space opera though. "Another Life" was subpar.

No movie is ever truly 100% original, and every single movie that any one of us watch is in part inspired by other stories.

But tell you what in two weeks after I watch it I'll list things that are not of Star Wars.

According to John Rocha on the latest episode of The Hot Mic, Madelyn Cline could either be in talks to play the Girl of Steel, or is someone Gunn and Warner Bros. are eyeing for the part.

Take it with some salt.

I don't think any of us in here have any kind of rage towards Snyder making work. I certainly don't care that he still makes things. It just doesn't shock anyone that what he's made is supposedly terrible given his track record of making terrible films, so it's easy to make fun of.

And they're the ones who are going to give Netflix the high streaming numbers so they'll be throwing more money at Snyder. The cycle will never end. :csad:

Nah, the Netflix money hose has been turned off. And Snyder is damn lucky he got his big deal before it did. The mere fact they are going to try to do some bull**** "directors cut" screams to me they are a bit desperate. I don't foresee that Rebel Moon anime going forward, much like his Army of the Dead one.

Weren't Heart of Stone's viewership numbers abysmal by Netflix standards? Who the hell actually bothered to watch that? Their original films have been taking in terms of people watching as of recent because people are aware most of them are trash.

I had to refresh my memory on that one. And I clearly knew why my brain blocked it out.

I don't know if Snyder can ever top the "let yourself get raped" of Sucker Punch, but I do think think he is going to try.

Our Generation’s very own Uwe Boll. :o

There are plenty of bad directors. What makes Snyder notable is he blew up an entire expanded universe, tanked a company's reputation, and still is being handed millions upon millions to make multiple expanded universes. He's the definition of failing upwards.

I still say everyone gives Snyder way too much attention in general. He doesn't deserve it on either end of the spectrum and it'd be better if we just didn't speak of him at all. He just isn't that interesting

Some of us need to get to 100 new movies in 2023, one way or another. :argh:

And then list what isn't from Dune, Kurosawa, or any countless WW2 or well known anime projects.

I don't hate Snyder, but he is an example of what I do not like about captialism. A white man falling up, while minorities who create amazing work struggle to make a movie every decade.

Alice Wu wrote and directed two very good, very sweet films on the gay Asian American experience. Have no idea if she'll ever get to make another. While Snyder ****s out his fash coded blah. For the cost of one Snyder movie, we could have 40 good ones.
