The Superhero Cinematic Civil War - Part 60

Kang should have had a classic he wins but he loses type thing. I get not wanting Scott to outright lose and that wouldn't test well and all that. So instead of team Ant-Man just outright winning, they should have stopped Kang in some regard, but Kang walks away with what was really important to him. Thus keeping his threat level next time, and increasing it now that he has the Thing Of Amazingness That He Wanted or whatever you could have made it. Like, maybe you frame it so Ant-Man and co free the Quantum Realm guys, but Kang fixes his chair and he leaves and no one knows where he went. Then Ant-Man and co can go him and be afraid of the looming threat. Something like that would have been better than Kang gets killed by Ant-Man

The mishandling of Kang aside, I was just waiting for something actually exciting to pop off in Quantumania. I was really ready to see the post credit scene of the Fantastic Four breaking out of the Quantum Realm, but noooooo. But in retrospect, thank God that didn't happen.

I'm still so awestruck by Kang getting his ass kicked by a bunch of ants that I forget there was a fist fight that happened after that.

What's worse is that the movie blatantly made it a point to mention Kang that Ant-Man beat allegedly killed variants of Thor and the other Avengers.

I can only hope that darker and more grounded Ant-Man reboot happens soon so we can start treating Quantumania like the Batman and Robin it desperately wants to be. Or maybe Madame Web is this generation's Batman and Robin? :hmm

Sir don't make me fight you.

Madam Web doesn't have Dragon Dronet.

I just have to say this: Batman & Robin knew what it was doing. Turned out audiences at the time didn't WANT what it was doing, but Joel/The Movie knew exactly what it wanted to be and 100% succeeded at being that.

The joy of Madame Web is that it has absolutely no f***ing idea what it's doing at all.

Apples and Oranges.

Quantumania will always be frustrating because of how badly it wastes all the potential of exploring Scott and Cassie's relationship post-Endgame. That's a whole ocean of material, and they didn't even get pass the beach parking lot. Great way to utilize the most praised thing about the first two films, and the heart of the whole Ant-Man franchise. Glad we replaced that with MODOK ass.
Oh, so Taika Waititi can give us Hulk ass and Thor ass and it's fine but the second we get MODOK ass it's a problem? Double standards much? :o

OT:

I watched Alexander on Netflix. It is ok and worth watching, but also the worst of the historical series I've seen on Netflix, which are otherwise quite good (e.g. Ottoman Rise of Empires).

It is distracting that the actor for Alexander is blue eyed and quite pale. He should look Greek. They could even cast someone from a neighbouring country like Bulgaria or Turkey I'd be fine with that. But they cast some blue eyed dude with a British accent. It feels very phoney, reminds me of them casting a Black woman for Cleopatra, though this time people didn't complain as much. But they should complain.

Regardless it's worth watching for the general history, though somehow the plot felt very thin. It's a case of a weak adaptation of incredibly strong source material ending up adequate.

Alexander is a weird case. According to most historical accounts, he was blond with one blue eye and a ruddy complexion. So not the typical dark hair, dark eyes, and olive skin you would stereotypically associate with a person of Greek descent. See Jennifer Aniston for a blond, blue eyed Greek woman.

Thank you !

I wouldn't call it an outlier. If your first two films have proven to be steady in terms of box office, no reason to believe for it to do worse or better, really. Same thing happened with the Thor films.

I think we sort of agree. Guardians being 'proven to be steady' is why I consider it an outlier though. Specifically recently, I must clarify. The MCU has a few reliable brands but not many in a position to put out a sequel. Iron Man and Cap are dead, Boseman had passed. Spidey is still a loan. Even The Avengers needs a new line up. It is really only Guardians and Thor left standing as solid bets with a track record after Endgame. There have been a ton of new potential heavy hitters that made no impression because the projects were underwhelming. After a string of sub-par releases Marvel have lost the clout to succeed on name alone. Now the safest bet seems to be the biggest names you can muster, import them in from old franchises if need be.

Well for one thing he was Macedonian, which was a bit different than the more southern Greeks to begin with.

So was Cleopatra for that matter. She was the direct descendant of Ptolemy Soter.

The real actor who played Alexander has brown hair, but they made him up to look more like the real historical Alexander.
