No disrespect to Helen Mirren and Lucy Liu but they never should have been the villains of that movie in the first place.

Shazam and Black Adam could have been the Godzilla and Kong of the DCEU but this guy f'ed up the whole thing with his ego.

I think The Marvels is the closest test case which we have. A film that has a fresh RT score and is not regarded as bad by many, and has a main character whose solo film did over a billion, yet the shockingly low box office I think should ring alarm bells.

The Marvels box office performance is still baffling to me. Underperforming, sure, doing less than Quantumania, fine…but absolutely tanking the way it did was crazy. People just did not want to go see that movie, like at all.

The fact that they didn't use Mister Mind was really odd, especially since they already put the seeds for him in the first one. Shazam getting a sequels was never guaranteed. So you'd think they would think when they do have the opportunity to do one, they'd use an actual villain from the comics.

That's what cracks me up too. If they couldn't use Black Adam, why not just go with the one that was set up in the post-credits (as ridiculous as he may be)?

Larson is an excellent, delightful , and intelligent actress, she starred in one of the better CBM origin movies, and if she leaves the genre, it's our loss.

I think it really was just a case of superhero movie fatigue. I can't really think of any other reason. As a movie, The Marvels is fine but generally audiences and critics weren't that crazy about it so word of mouth wasn't particularly strong.

Between Shazam 2, Flash, and Black Adam, I can safely say that Fury of the Gods was the biggest disappointment for me. By far.

I'm not saying that Black Adam or Flash were 'better' movies, but Shazam felt a bit like a personal betrayal.

I think it's because the first Shazam movie is Top 5 DCEU for me, which granted isn't really saying much. But I personally felt the first film was a charming, low-key, effervescent delight, while the sequel replaced all that with cheap looking CGI, forced humour, and an odd mean-spiritedness that killed any potential enjoyment for me.

Black Adam and Flash, on the other hand, I expected absolutely nothing from them, and they both delivered accordingly. So even though they both sucked, I didn't internalize them like I did with Shazam, if that makes sense...

Fury of the Gods isn't the worst of the three films. But if I feel like a sequel is basically saying **** you to me as a fan of the first film, what option do I have but to say it right back?
