The Superhero Cinematic Civil War - Part 60

I watched the first two episodes of The Accolyte. I think it's pretty good this far. It's got a simple enough plot but respects what makes star wars special: The Setting. It feels like it takes place in a big galaxy.

If I changed one thing, I'd take a random half of the human characters and make them aliens.

The consequence to ploughing ahead blindly was bringing the whole DCEU down. Well, at least Tsuji got his bonus.
That’s the issue with WB in a nutshell. The executives for a long while now are more interested in milking the company for what they can and then jumping ship than the health of the business. Who cares if the movie flops? At least I got my bonus!

Sounds about right!

Spoiler Alert: No one with creative vision for what the X-Men need to be are going to come to terms with Marvel on it.

At this point, I sadly think you might be right.

Because of what his boss has been saying.

I’m bracing myself for a live action version of this:

But atleast we’ll have comic accurate costumes. :csad:

Speaking of MAGA, that's another reason why I'm a firm believer that the first antagonist for MCU X-Men should be a human one.

SO many timely things a character like Graydon Creed could do and say.

The streets are saying Jordan Peele couldn't come to terms with Marvel over X-Men.

K.E.V.I.N. WHY?!??

Is anyone surprised?

They probably won't even let him write the script. He'd also be much harder to control than the random writers they usually tap. They probably wanna do pre-viz on action before they even shoot too.

But that probably means Sentinels, and I am burnt out on those

So who would you guys like as Hal now that we know he's gonna be in the 43-49 age range?

I’m pretty sure they think, “Powers = Cool.” :o

Its the old Gundam problem. All they see is "ooh, cool robot" totally ignoring the wide array of anti war themes in the various series. There's also the fact that they refuse to believe racism survived the 60s. And that changing what used to be catered to them into something catering to them slightly less is oppression.

Not neccessarily. I mean, especially in the MCU. I mean, you have Stark Tech, asgardian tools, and even the supersoldier serum all seemingly easily available to whatever version of the anti mutant militia they want to use. And honestly, just look at some of what the right wing riots looked like.

In terms of realistic TV actors? Maybe Philip Winchester? I would say Jamie Dornan if he didn't lose all acting ability as soon as he tries to put on an American accent, but alas. :o

In terms of "big names," sadly, the only big name I've ever really liked for it (Pine) definitely doesn't want it. I'd take Gyllenhaal for that over him as Batman, though. I liked James Marsden for it for a while but he's probably too old now, plus Quiet on Set.

All I know is there's a "Stock Action Hero" quality to Hal that I'd like kept intact, because that makes it more interesting to me to watch him crumble under all the trauma when the s*** goes down.

Gyllenhaal's my pick too. The sad thing tho is that I wonder if there may be scheduling conflicts. I think he'd be game to do it because he's been going all in to streaming recently, but he's doing a play on spring 2025 and they begin production on Lanterns in Q1 2025, so unless they can push the production date to late Q2 or Q3 he's probably unavailable.

I'm kinda fearing the fact that it'll probably be Bradley Cooper, though lol. Gunn already likes him, I'm sure MAX would be happy having him as the face of what'll probably be one of their most expensive shows to date, I don't see any reason why Lindelof and Mundy wouldn't be into him, and he fits right in the age range at 49. He has nothing in the horizon in his schedules and after the whole Maestro ****show and how bad that whole campaign went, an expensive genre show in which he's playing a character more in-line with the roles that got him famous in the first place while still probably remaining in the cards for awards contention (judging by Lindelof's and Mundy's past works) could be just what he needs. Acting wise he'd probably do fine, but man that press tour was a mess and I don't really like his face for Hal.

I've never liked Bradley Cooper as an action hero, but I agree there's a good chance it would be him if they're indeed going for a big name.

If they're NOT looking for a big name but instead a recognizable TV face, I wouldn't rule out James Wolk either, given his pre-existing relationship with both Lindelof (Watchmen) and DC (voicing Superman on Harley Quinn).

The main reason I really do buy the "big name" rumor is mostly because I don't think it's lost on MAX that one of the main reasons Peacemaker became the big hit it was probably has to do with the fact John Cena is one of the most famous people on the planet. So I'd imagine they'd want something similar here, especially as it's probably gonna be even more expensive than Peacemaker. Also no one in the GA cares about Green Lantern so they can't rely on the IP being the star the same way they can on Superman, Batman or Supergirl. I pointed it out before but the age range (43-49) is so, so oddly specific too that the only reason I can think it'd be that specific is because they have a list of like, 10 actors they want that fit there and they aren't gonna be doing a widespread search. (Like I wouldn't be surprised if the reason it's that way is because Gyllenhaal is 43 and Cooper is 49 lmao)

As far as recognizable TV faces go I kinda think Ackles stands a better chance. He has a massive following from Supernatural, was well received in The Boys, and he looks like a carbon copy of the Hal Jordan illustration they keep using to advertise the show. Tho I gotta say I have a hard time envisioning he'd be their first, second, or even third choice.

What do you guys would think of Channing Tatum? At a glance I don't like him and haven't heard many good things about the prospect, but I haven't seen him in anything other than Foxcatcher.

I just don't think Ackles in any major role is ever going to, or ever should, happen. The only person to give him a significant job after Supernatural was...his Supernatural boss. That "huge following" is just meaningless online chatter, tbh. But we'll see.

Hell no to Tatum, thanks.
