The Superman Look: Shaping Superman

In fact I have a picture on my desktop of Superman and Supergirl....and Supergirl is not ripped like the man of steel is. Could you imagine a hardcore muscle version of Supergirl....blahk!!!

Heroines should not have a lot of muscle or be ripped, they should be in shape but they shouldn't look like power lifters, they should look like ordinary women.

Ah, you mean like this?

Gross doesnt even cover it, does it?

:wow: :woot:
lol, you sure that's a woman?

Moving on, what types of exercises do you all do? I try to do a few sets of 20 push-ups or more before bed & at least four sets of 50 for sit-ups.

More Gary Frank goodness. This is how muscly I want Supes to be.

Quit doing them before bed. do them as soon as you get up, on an empty stomach. It will galvinize you metabolism, and you will burn more calories throughout the day.
Also, if all you are doing is bodyweight exercises, do some tricep push ups by putting your hand under the front of you shoulder for a couple sets. Get a pull-up bar, and make sure you do some underhanded pull ups for biceps and lats.

I like justabout everything about this. I REALLY like the costume. It actually looks like the material has some thickness to it, and it's not just his body spraypainted blue and red. I like the trunks, as I don't think Supes should be running around in a Speedo.
He's muscular, but looks like he might weigh SOMEWHERE close to what his official bio says...
I'm growing to like the face, even though I didn't like it at first.

It all depends on what you do, do you only do bodyweight exercises? If so then I would go with what not_a_victim gave as a outline, pushups, pullups, dips, and sit-ups for upperbody, for lower body you could do lunges, squats and toe raises. If you use free weights or machines then we are getting into a whole different area that would depend on your level of fitness, how long you have worked out, and if you have had a injury, so let us know and we will try to help.

Well, the most I've lifted with free weights was 50 lbs but now I'd say I can probably lift up to 100 lbs. I want to try to increase my strength a lot without looking like a steroid freak.

You're in no danger of that...
BTW, in what way are you lifting the weight? Curls, bench press or what?

Why not do both? Before bed & in the morning? I've had a lot of people tell me that doing exercises before bed helps a lot. Earlier this year I used to do a few sets of sit-ups after brushing my teeth & all (I don't usually eat breakfast) but I soon stopped. I'll probably just do them in the morning on weekends since I need to have all the time I can get to get prepared before school.

Excellent. I'm trying to get stronger to prove to myself that I can be the strongest. Right now, I'm only the second strongest person in my class & I won't settle for second. I want to be even stronger than my friend who says he's lifting 150 lbs. He's even able to do chin-ups from the highest point of the chin-up bar. I can do chin-ups myself but I want to be stronger than him & I want to try to do it before the end of this year.

Btw, I usually only curl weights, I don't bench.

No idea who she is - just did a google image search on female bodybuilders and got her image. If she looks familiar to you, it's probably because she reminds you of some guy you know or something........ :woot:

Bastard!! :oldrazz:

But honestly, I think she was one of the female bodybuilder on the green screen that show several bodybuilders posing on "Whose Line is it Anyway?". You know, the one where Colin Moochrie has to guess what behind him with 2 guys giving him clue. I hope you watch that show before. ;)

And of course that's a woman, kak. :D :D It just so many female bodybuilders take steroid/hormone enchanment drugs, that it cause their face or jaws to get bigger and thicker. Thus, making them look manly. Not to mention increasing their hormones with the 2 drugs I mention cause them to also develop deep voice, facial hair, boobs become flat, etc. Pretty disgusting women make themself look like men than a pretty feminie look like women should look.

There are 3 factors for muscle growth...
1. Excercise (the breakdown phase)
2. Rest (the recovery phase)
3. Nutrition (to fuel the recovery)
All three factor are equally important...Doing any two without the third is pointless.
If you are breaking the muscle down in the morning and at night, the muscle will not have time to recover and grow. try to get eight hours of actual sleep a night. That doesn't mean going to bed at midnight, but staying awake untill 02:00. It means 8 hours of actual sleep. (Look up "natural sleep" on the internet for the best way for atheletes to sleep)
Quit skipping breakfast. Worst mistake ever. After eight hours of fasting, your body NEEDS fuel. It's so important, that when I was seriously
training, I ate oatmeal as part of my breakfast, AND I HATE OATMEAL!!
Put 5-6 small meals into your body during teh day. Eat as much clean protein and clean carbs as you can.
If you do it, and stick with it, you will notice results fairly quickly.

I'll try that, I've been training for about five or six months & I've been eating junk food & I've still gotten results. I want to eat breakfast but mostly all of the time I don't have enough time to get ready for school & eat breakfast, especially since I have to be to school by 7:30 AM IN THE FREAKING MORNING! Right now it's 12:53 AM here & I can stay up late at night on the weekends & get away with it because I can still get eight hours of sleep as I don't have a certain time I need to be up. Hell, sometimes I may even sleep for 15 hours.

holy crap... that's friggin amazing!

someone FINALLY understands :D:up:

There's really nothing to understand, all Gary wants to do is make a less musclebound Superman. Superman should be really toned but you make him look the way you feel he should be if you're doing a story with him, nothing to really "understand" there.

Superman is not supposed to be this muscle bound freak (aka McGuiness)

I'm not saying he should be, but he shouldn't be scrawny like other heroes (Spider-Man). He should be muscular but not bodybuilder big, I've said that about ten times now.

and IO totally agree with ya on that, vegeta, and like I said, this is the first artist that I believe has gotten down the way Superman should be

Yeah, I don't mind the slender approach, he's not too skinny though. As long as they keep him from looking like Spider-Man, I'm happy.

I like Gary Frank's drawing on Supes. He isn't massive like McGuiness draw, but he sure as hell isn't scrawny. Make it more believable to not make him big when he dress as the geeky Clark.

His build should be a bit over average. He should be kind of slender like Gary Frank's version but be really toned.
