Reboot Superman with The Legion?

He was at least 30. He goes to the fortress when he's 18 and then leaves after 12 years.

Yeah that was stupid...Never liked that part....No wonder why he was a bumbling idiot being isolated from the world for 12 years.

yea that is silly thing, that is something i am liking with smallville he has been doing his own thing, with some training but its not going to take him many many years to train and he is pratically superman at only 23 yrs old(character age) and will probably be 25 when officially dub superman.

SV Clark is freaking awesome man!....He is 24 age wiese on the show....So your right he will be 25 when he becomes Superman...He been training show wise for 9 years crime fighting.

Well they did that to transition Jeff east to Christopher Reeve, and most importantly to keep the budget down.

Dude the only reason they've been doing that on Smallville is so they can stretch it out as long as possible until they get cancelled. I mean seriously how much more training does he need. And what makes you think next year he'll become Superman. If it was up to the producers of that show, they'd try to make like 5 more seasons.

I like this season of Smallville (hated season4-8) but quite frankly I think it's like failing a test and getting the extra credit question right. Too little too late.

Cause they said next season would be the last season....They are most likely gonna do a season 10 they said....also in the comics he had this much training from his Superboy days from 15-21, then pre Superman days.

Alright well I can understand that but their could of been another way of doing it.

I started watching Smallville because of Superman's origin and Kristin Kreuk. Soon i realised it was a pile of crap but would switch to it from time to time to watch Kreuk being beautiful. The stories kept getting dumper and Lana got annoying to the point that if i was Clark, i would heat vision her to oblivion. Thankfully while Lana was getting irritating and less beautiful for some reason, Chloe got hot, so i would switch on for hot Chloe, hot Lois, and lately hot Tess.
Nowadays i only watch an episode if it has another superhero as a guest star, and that only because most of those heroes would probably never appear in a movie or a decent tv series. That Legion episode was good for example and i hear they re doing the JSA this season. Might watch it.
But all in all, Smallville is an insult to human intelligence.

Think Chole looked better in the earlier seasons when she had longer hair.

well earle everyone does have their opinions on what they like and dont like. Sure smallville isnt the best show on television by far. But its not that bad. Sure over the years they have done stupid mistakes and storylines that were utter crap. But last season for the most part, and so far this season things have been going great for the show. As for how ever longer it will be if does get 10th season the producers since season 8 have been saying they want to end their. Plus most of the current cast is only signed on for a possible 10th year. Plus if we do get 10th season and its officially stated to be the end like the producers have been wanting to do. Things can be clearly defined and mapped out in a more define matter on how they want to close out the show.

As for the jsa thing yea if you do want to see it is a two hr(2 episodes) together in a movie format deal airing on feb 5th.

I'm just saying that they took a simple and interesting story and filled it with loads of crap so that it would stretch for 10 seasons. All that while providing angsty teen drama for the girls and stupid action sequences for the boys.
Not only that but the series is shot in 5-6 sets and it looks like the characters live in a world only made of these sets, where they can jump from one set to the other to spit out their dialogue. It wouldnt hurt if we see Clark walking around town and entering the DP or entering Lex's mansion. The funniest part was when Green Arrow was about to leave for some place and Clark had to catch him at the airport before he does so that he could talk to him. From then on, a grounded lear jet served as Green Arrow's place. "Hey i gotta talk to Oliver. Lets go to the airport, he'll be in his jet doing nothing." RIDICULOUS.
The show is barely watchable now because it has more action and more heroes, who as i said we wont see on the big screen or a decent TV series so we get our fix from Smallville.

well on that point yes since about season 7 they havent been doing as many off set location shooting like there was between seasons 1-6 time frame. But that is mostly do to time, and budget reasons.

As for the show they never really knew how long it could go. Sure there was some thoughts on where they wanted to go. But then things changed over time and all that. Sure yea at times things have been stalled and dragged out which is a thing most of the fans of the show have hated. Plus you have remember also that over the course of 9 years there have been many writers/producers/directors who have come and gone on the show. So things like i said could have been going one way and then poof change. But yea its not the greatest show in the world but i still like it.

ok yea if u dont like it you dont like it but others do. But yea we probably should go back to the topic of this thread of superman and the legion before mods get pissed or something.

I say no to Superman & The Legion....Over and out!...He he....Naw but on SV for a minute, if they would of done 5 seasons of SV, then do a Metropolis show spin off making that 5 seasons then the movies could then be a contuation from the shows.

I've noticed everyone who wants a reboot keeps saying that the WB has to update Superman for this century. What most people here don't understand is that it's pretty much a guarantee that a new take is going to be a lot more like Burton and Cage's Superman than anything from the comics. To the average person Superman is "Your Grandfathers Superhero" and in a way he is. Even in the comics, All-Star Superman and Geoff Johns run on Action didn't sell anywhere near Batman or Spider-man, and those are easily some of the best Superman stories in 70 years. Even with two of the most popular and talented writers at DC, Superman still couldn't reach anywhere near number 1.

Sadly Superman will never be seen as fresh or cool and the only way to make him cool is to completely change him. Another version of the origin like Byrne's Man of Steel or Birthright isn't enough. No Studio in there right mind would see either one of those stories and give 200 million dollars to any director. To us fans every origin in the comics is very different, but the truth is to the general public and to any studio exec it's all the same crap. We all just have to realize that the Superman we've been reading about for 70 years (pre or post crisis) will probably never be seen on film again.

So the truth is if you want Superman to be a big financial success, you're going to have drastically change him. With or without an origin. For all those people who say the WB need to give us a new take on Superman, I agree and that's why I think they should give us a Legion Of Super-Heroes movie. Now, I've never been a big fan of the Legion but I do see there is Huge potential with this concept.

1)Star Trek just showed us that an old franchise with a time travel story set in the future with a lot of action could definitely work in more ways than one.
2)Harry Potter will be ending soon, so a movie about a teen who wears glasses and is destined for greatness could be a substitute for kids who want to see something new.
3)X-men, at least the first two, proved that people like Superhero teams.

I just want to make it clear that this is not my idea of a dream Superman movie (and I'm sure it's not most of yours either), but I think if done well (which definitely won't be easy) this could be something that the fans, the general public, and the WB would like.

I'm also not saying it has to be like the classic Legion. They could meet Clark when he's 15 or when he's 25 so anyone who doesn't like the idea of "Superboy" relax, they could easily make it Superman in the Legion and not a kid.

If you don't agree with the Legion concept, please I'm begging you just post in another thread! I don't want a debate about Superman Returns or Pre vs. Post Crisis. All I want to know is:

Are you open to the Legion concept which is, a team from the future going back in time to meet Clark and then bring him to the future?

If so, list what you want or don't want in the movie? What I would want off the top of my head is:
1)A classic Superman villain like Bizarro or Metallo. They don't
have to be the main villains though.
2)I don't care if it's Superman or Superboy so age doesn't matter
3)Saturn Girl, Cosmic Boy, and Lightning Lad should be adults but
all the other members should be anywhere from 14-25 years
old.(Kind of like the X-men movies)
I just noticed that its you that started this thread as well. I see you make a new thread for every new idea you get about the origin. Why isnt there an origin thread for everyone to throw their own ideas in?

Also, maybe the Superman comics dont sell so well because comics fans have found new franchises that they prefer or they might find Superman outdated. Or simply the Batman, Spiderman and other comics are better this year. Who knows. But you cant judge the success that a movie might have based on the fact that 40 year old neckbeards have grown tired of Superman or that the current Superman run might not be as good as it used to be.
And Morrison's All-Star Superman is supposedly one of the best Superman runs ever. So if that didnt top the charts, you think a movie about a teen Superman fighting villains in the future with a bunch of kids would be successful? :wow::wow::wow::wow:

IMHO maybe comic fans prefer "edgier" stuff than Superman but the general public that doesnt read Superman is itching to get more of him. A rebooted movie franchise under a good director would be successful. When Superman Returns was announced i remember that everyone was talking about it, excited to see it, as if it was the next Godfather movie. "Yay Superman is back" and all that. So apparently people love Superman. Its just that the Donnerverse is outdated and Returns was crap. Get someone of Nolan's ability behind the cameras and you ll get your success.
Again, I don't want to turn this into a debate.
Like I said before I didn't want this to be a debate, so I'll just say this.
Then why the hell did you make this thread?
Oh i know your not saying it has to be the legion. Its an example which is welcome since there is really nothing to talk about. I just think your reasons for saying superman has to be completely different to be cool are wrong.

Spider-man isnt that cool, the main character is a nerd with a troubled life. The next person who deals with superman has to find something that people can relate to. Its not that hard, for kids "cool" as you use it could simply mean superman throwing some punches for once.

Your basically saying that for the next film to work they need to think outside the box, but I'm saying that if they havent even accomplished thinking inside the box properly yet why would they go to such drastic measures to change the character. A character that has been around for 70+ years. Your looking at comic book sales but frankly you could say every other comic book character needs to be re-done because all-star batman had better sales.
:applaud

there is so many things for superman origin story and all that. Also i believe there is a origin thread.

Again, since it's clear you don't know anything about comics I'll try to explain. When the Superman comics were losing readers and on the edge of being cancelled, they created Superboy so kids would have someone they could relate to. Than the Legion showed up, and became on of the most successful points in Supermans history.

What is the one thing that the George Reeves show, S:TM, Lois and Clark, Superboy, Smallvile, have in commmon? They all did the same origin with minor differences, but none of them ever had the Legion.

Like I said in my original post, if it wasn't for JJ's Star Trek that had time travel, and the fact that the Legion and Star Trek have always been similar (even though the Legion debuted a decade earlier) I never even would have thought to mention a Legion movie. BUT I KNOW HOW HOLLYWOOD IS! IF A MOVIE SUCCEEDS THAN ANOTHER MOVIE STUDIO IS GOING TO RIP IT OFF! Like I said earlier, even if they do rip-off JJ's Star Trek at least there's proof in the comics that Superman and The Legion did it first!

You said that to me in the "opposite of Donner's" thread about Wonder Woman and Batman and i proved you wrong.

Did i say that i have a problem with comparisons to Star Trek? NO. So read my post again. What i said was that you cant judge how a Superman movie would do on the basis that comic book fans (who are only a small portion of the people that go to the movies) might prefer a different comicbook franchise at this point.

Besides, was the Superman & Legion animated series that successful? No it wasnt. See? I can do that as well. Judge a movie with the legion on the basis that an animated show with it didnt do so well.

Dude, If you consider Wonder Woman a love interest because of one issue out of 70 years of comics than that's great for you. If that's the case than I guess one of Batmans biggest love interests was Orion's wife Bekka!Go around and ask Batman fans if they consider Bekka a love interest like Vikki Vale, Julie Madison, Silver St. Cloud etc.

When the hell did I say you have problems with Star Trek? I brought up Star Trek in my very first post in this thread! And when I brought it up now, I was referring to my original post.

Also, I never said to base the popularity of Superman on ONE cartoon like S:TAS. But there is no denying that Batman is considered cooler and has beat Superman in every incarnation. The Batman movies were more popular than Supermans movies, Adam West show was bigger than Geroge Reeves show, Batman cartoons are always more popular than Superman cartoons (atleast in the last 20 years). And of course in the comics Batman always outsells Superman. If you want another example Batman Confidential and Superman Confidential wre both two books that started at the exact same time, both were mediocre, and yet Superman was cancelled after 14 issues. Meanwhile Batman Confidential (which is still mediocre) is going on it's 37th issue.

Like it or not Batman will always be seen as the cool character of the two. And since Hollywood only cares about what's cool and not what's good, all us Superman fans are screwed!

Again you are judging how the general audience would respond to a Superman movie based on the fact that the 2% of it that is made of comicbook readers prefers batman over superman.
Even so, maybe Superman wont beat Batman's box office. Who cares? It just needs to be a good profitable franchise. Its not about being number one. What, do you think that Green Lantern will even go near Batman's box office? But the more movie franchises they have, the more money they re making and the more comic books, toys, etc they sell.

Superman is a 1000x bigger gamble than Green Lantern or any other property they own. If the next movie doesn't do well, Superman is OVER! Do you think if the next movie fails, there going to reboot the new reboot? There is way too much money riding on this franchise. That's all that matters to them! They don't care what the fans want, or how high the percentage on the Tomatoemeter says. And like you said comic fans and Superman fans in general only make up about 10-15 million dollars in box-office tickets. So, we can all say want we want to happen or what would make a great Superman movie, but if the WB decides to have a new Superman movie with the cast and crew of Twilight we're screwed. Warner Brothers owns the property, so unfortunately they can do whatever the hell they want.

Well for our sakes the next Superman film needs to be a success....If not well we will have to wait a long time for another film.
