Trivia

  • Though the name of the episode, "The Prometheon", supposedly refers to the creature, it is never referred to by that name during the show.
  • The name "Prometheon" may be a reference to Prometheus who stole fire from the Gods. The creature in this episode steals heat and fire from those around it.
  • As with most giant characters in cartoons, the size of the Prometheon seems to change from scene to scene.

It's a shame Wonder Woman was off-limits to the producers during this shows run.

It would've been nice to have seen her guest-starring on the Kids' WB era Batman and Superman shows.

Why couldn't they use her?

Rights issues... She was supposedly tied up with another proposed series/movie.

It's the same nonsense that prevented Batman villians from appearing on JLU while The Batman was on the air.

And, of course, why Robin couldn't appear on The Batman until Teen Titans was off the air and so on and so forth.

Trivia

  • There's no indication in this episode as to if this version of the Flash is Barry Allen or Wally West. However, when this version of the Flash reappears in Justice League, he is revealed to be Wally West.
  • The comics have depicted a number of races (both for charity and under threat) between Superman and Barry Allen, in which the winner was never clearly established. When Superman raced Wally West, the third Flash, Wally won, even before his significant power boost and mainlining of the Speed Force.
  • Michael Rosenbaum took over the voice duties for Flash in Justice League and Justice League Unlimited. Rosenbaum would also play Lex Luthor in Smallville, who was shown to have a grudge against that series' version of Flash (there called Impulse). Charlie Schlatter wouldn't voice Flash again until a decade or so later in two episodes of The Batman.
  • Though it's never actually determined who is the Fastest Man Alive within this episode, the comics have indicated that the Flash is the faster runner. This fact is also confirmed in the Justice League Unlimited episode "Flash and Substance".

You know, I liked Charlie Schlatter as The Flash, even if he works better as Barry Allen.

He was particularly good on The Batman.

Geoff Johns had a pretty cool moment between Barry and Clark running in Rebirth. "Those were for charity, Clark." ZOOM

Funny, I just rewatched this episode yesterday. Some nice animation. Even before the JL/JLU days, I always got the feeling that this Flash was Wally.

I always assumed it was Wally.

You know it's been such a long time that I don't remember it clearly, but were fans really complaining that Superman turned into "Super-Wimp" during that first season of Justice League? I mean, some of the power downs Timm & the gang went with did range from questionable to just outright bad, but if you look back at the solo DCAU Superman series you'll also find some pretty bad power level inconsistencies, and if you watch the remainder of the Justice League/JLU era you'll continue to find some bad power level inconsistencies. Heck, inconsistent power levels have always been a flaw across multiple media incarnations of Superman. You can see it in the Fleischer cartoons (where he went back & forth between smacking around giant robots, dinosaurs, mummies & bird men to nearly being defeated by mooks with gas bombs, circus animals & trap doors), the Reeve movies (knocked out by a bus in one film, strong enough to move the moon in another), the comics themselves, etc.

I have Amazon Instant, so I had the pleasure of watching all the episodes for the first time. My thoughts? Not as well written as BTAS or JL/JLU but I give it a lot of credit for building Superman's rogues gallery. Those episodes with both Bats and Supes were also very cool. I loved "Knight Time" haha.

I can accept inconsistencies in the comics, if one writer's run is consistent within itself in depicting the character's abilities, I can accept different writers different takes.
In animation I prefer stronger consistency.

Trivia

  • This version of Bizarro is based on the Post-Crisis Bizarro from The Man of Steel #5 and even has scenes from the comic story arc "Bizarro's World", such as his preventing a bridge from opening.
  • Dr. Teng sets the self-destruct to two minutes, yet the time between the on-screen activation and detonation is around three minutes.
  • When the duplicate Superman deteriorates into Bizarro, his suit likewise decays to signify his degenerated status, whereas it should remain unchanged since it is not a part of Superman's physique.
  • When Bizarro destroys the lab's terminal, the ensuing explosion is reused footage from the gas canisters that Superman ignites in "The Way of All Flesh".

I have to say this is one of my favorites and it's no surprise...it's written by Joe Lansdale.
