What does it take sales wise for a title to succeed these days? Its something I am wondering about? I can't believe The Thing is Marvel's worst selling book. Look at the host of Marvel Adventure's titles. LOL Information and opinions most welcome!
It's too bad the title is going down. Slott is a magnificent writer. Devito's art was great and while Dwyer is not perhaps in the same class visually, he drew a very good panel to panel story and is not a bad artist at all. Have seen much much worse over the years!
Undouptedly, there are so many titles to choose from and it gets way too expensive to keep up on them all. Am sure this is a huge factor in the Thing not having high sales. I'm amazed that there are so many Spider titles, X-titles, Wolverine titles, etc al (factoring in 616 and ultimates). I see the appeal to the readers and realize they are Marvel's cash cows, but can't help but think toss out a few unnecessary extras from all 3 and give the fans some alternatives. Hey, I might even go back to reading some x-titles/wolverine titles, if there were not so darn many to try and keep up on.
I guess I am saying to a certain extent that there are many other characters out there besides the Thing, that have excellent story potential and fan appeal and could produce the numbers if Marvel was not in such heavy competiton with itself.
