What does it take sales wise for a title to succeed these days? Its something I am wondering about? I can't believe The Thing is Marvel's worst selling book. Look at the host of Marvel Adventure's titles. LOL Information and opinions most welcome!
It's too bad the title is going down. Slott is a magnificent writer. Devito's art was great and while Dwyer is not perhaps in the same class visually, he drew a very good panel to panel story and is not a bad artist at all. Have seen much much worse over the years!
Undouptedly, there are so many titles to choose from and it gets way too expensive to keep up on them all. Am sure this is a huge factor in the Thing not having high sales. I'm amazed that there are so many Spider titles, X-titles, Wolverine titles, etc al (factoring in 616 and ultimates). I see the appeal to the readers and realize they are Marvel's cash cows, but can't help but think toss out a few unnecessary extras from all 3 and give the fans some alternatives. Hey, I might even go back to reading some x-titles/wolverine titles, if there were not so darn many to try and keep up on.
I guess I am saying to a certain extent that there are many other characters out there besides the Thing, that have excellent story potential and fan appeal and could produce the numbers if Marvel was not in such heavy competiton with itself.

Well, on the bright side; Joe Q sez that if the TPB sells well, we might get another volume of Thing issues....the same was done with Dan's She-Hulk book, and TPB's are what has been keeping Spider-Girl afloat for a few years now...

But yeah, it's too bad so few fans gave this book a chance. With all the complaining you see these days by fans of Marvel (lack of continuity, multi-part cross-overs, etc.,) Dan made sure to give us the type of book any Marvel fan could be proud of.

I hope he gets another chance.

The current issue of THING (#7) is the most fun I've had reading any Fantastic Four-related comic in many years. (Remember when comics were fun? Yeah, me neither.)
Dan Slott's gift for putting fresh and entertaining words in the mouths of these beloved characters is truly something rare.
If they don't keep Slott writing the FF in some capacity, it's truly a shame.
I guess all I can do now is pre-order 3 or 4 copies of the tpb, write a nice letter to Joe Quesada and hope.

Exactly! If you can afford a few copies, definitely get them and give them out to friends and family as gifts...

And make sure the letter to Joey Q is nice. Grandma always said "you get more flies with honey, than vinegar", lol....
