The Thunderbolts* News and Discussion Thread

You think slapping the Name Avengers is going make you a billionaire. Good luck with that
They know it won't that is why they wrangled RDJ back and likely have Evans appear as a Cap in another universe. They literally did nothing to build up Sam Wilson's Avenger team. I will likely hate Sam's version because his sidekick is lame and I don't want to see that 4ft tall Widow ever again.
Shang Chi has not made a cameo to build up intrigue of a return.

The Avengers (they should have removed the The)
Avengers Assemble (Uk title)
The Incredible Hulk (I remember this sounded a bit corny in 2008)
Captain America: The First Avenger (subtitle for the first film)
Spider-Man: Homecoming (subtitle for the first film)
The Marvels (Captain Marvel 2 is a better title and they even used it for other countries)
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (long subtitle for the first film)
The Fantastic 4: First Steps (subtitle for the first film, no need for the The)
Thunderbolts* (the only movie I know that uses an asterisk in the title)

Marvel Studios' movie titles are a mess. I don't care if the titles would have been similar to past movies (Spider-Man, Fantastic 4, Hulk). Its inconsistent as a whole especially if you read them in a list. Shang-Chi and Captain America didn't have a big budget movie before the Mcu, for them to add those extra words.

She Hulk: Attorney-at-Law, Secret Invasion, Agatha all Along and Daredevil: Born Again could have also been just She Hulk, Nick Fury, Agatha Harkness and Daredevil as well.

I think you miss the call back to legal sitcoms in the She-Hulk title.

Agatha All Along makes sense in the context of WandaVision. Born Again and First Steps are just to differentiate from previous adaptations.

It isn't even Monday yet and Marvel is already trying to spoil the meaning of the asterisk

This feels akin to when Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn went to simply just being called Birds of Prey as a desperate attempt to get more people into the theater. But again, it shouldn't be necessary if this movie is apparently doing well at the box office- despite it coming in under Captain America: Brave New World, right?

I've read their explanation. But i prefer these titles to be direct and simple. Not sure why someone had to react "confused" to that.

Thor 1 wasn't called Thor: The Mighty Avenger. Iron Man 1 wasn't titled Iron Man: Genius, Billionaire, Playboy and Philathropist which is an iconic line from Tony.

I like how Superman 2025 is just Superman. Supergirl might get rid of Woman of tomorrow in the title. Clayface isn't being called DC Origins: Clayface.

The long title for that movie was just not an unnecessary mess.

Title change for this one is connected to the Asterisk in the original title. Anyway, if they wanted to be clever, they should have just called it Untitled before the title change.

They could have come up with a more interesting line up for that. This movie was really a Yelena movie, with Bob getting the next focus as he was the main threat.

The rest are replaceable. They could have replaced Red Guardian with Iron Maiden (Melina). Tigra and Wonder Man could have been used instead of Walker and Ghost, since those two weren't really developed anyway. Bucky's role here is a downgrade from Winter Soldier, Civil War and his own show.

I'm not against the idea of the movie revealing the actual title at the end of it, I think it's actually quite clever. But I'm totally against the entire marketing campaign blowing their load in the first 3-4 days.
I went to see the movie on Friday and even trying to avoid as much as possible, I already knew the * reveal.
Maybe I should just live on a cave.

The new title public reveal 3 to 4 days after the opening day, is a strategy to convince people, to watch the movie in cinemas as soon as possible.

Or just call it New Avengers from the start.
The movie's still called Thunderbolts*.

Marvel could've maybe waited another couple of days, but people are taking this way too seriously. The movie really is about much more than that. And as always, people seem to be more obsessed with the status quo than the simple but quite effective story about empathy and self worth.

This is one of Marvel Studios' more noteworthy movies IMO, does something different and more intimate for a change (and kudos to the filmmaking and the use of practical stunts and sets), and people seem to be more preoccupied with a marketing ploy.

Who... cares?

I don't think I understand what exactly the name change spoils. Did we not know they're gonna be a team going in? I'm confused.

I prefer Thunderbolts. I'm gonna keep calling them Thunderbolts.

Obviously using Avengers in a movie title for 3 consecutive years is a bit over kill for the general public.

Since this movie, doesn't have an A-list Marvel superhero (Iron Man, Spider-Man, Thor, Captain America), they weren't probably ready to use that title prior to its release.

I'm curious if they are still going to call it Thunderbolts* in streaming and physical media.

I saw this on Saturday and it was just okay. literally very forgettable because later that night I watched Black Mirror and for the past few days I started watching season 2 of tlou. all of that is on my mind more than Thunberbolts

All the more reason to let them keep the name they picked for themselves (kind of).

If the Blu doesn't have Thunderbolts on it, I'mma need someone to make a custom cover.

It spoils... the... ending of the movie?
The change in name didn't feel important to me at all. Guess I'll just continue to not get it.

Disagree on Red Guardian. He's important to Yelena's personal story.
