I know this is related to gaming but if it can remain here because it needs to be discussed outside all of the constant banter that is carried out between the two consoles.

Basically,

Sony have been a respected brand, bringing out the Playstation, then the PS2 and then the long awaited PS3. However, Sony have had many problems with its online functions and its lack of good solid games for the first year made buyers very hesitant towards it. Not to mention the high price for the console.

Microsoft on the other hand started with the original Xbox and then moving on to the Xbox 360. Microsoft recently lost out on high definition, blu-ray beat HD DVD's which dis-continued the sale of the 360's HD DVD player. Many problems arose with the red lights where the console would need to be either returned or dealt with using the towel trick (not reccomended).

There have been lots of rivalry between the two next-gen consoles, I just want to hear your views.

I don't want any games mentioned, it's about the console and how well they perform to your standards.

I'm not a "fanboy." I had a Sega Genesis, then an N64, then a PS2. Everyone I knew was getting 360s, and talking about how expensive the PS3 was, and I tried to convince them it's really the same. Pay a hundred more or whatever it was for the console, and then get free online, rather than paying for X-Box Live.

Plus the PS3 looks cooler and I like the controllers better.

Honestly, I've been very happy with the 360.

The only 2 reasons for me personally to buy a PS3 is Metal Gear Solid 4 (Huge fan of the series) and it being a default Blu-Ray player.

I do have a PSP though as well.

that's the same I have. I started with the original Nintendo (actually, my brother did since I was too young to play at the time). Then we got the Sega Genesis then N64 and my current console is PS2. I don't plan on getting anything after that since I'm basically done with video games. I haven't played one in about 2 years.

I'm hard-pressed to find a 360 owner who hasn't had to have it replaced because it broke down.
Erz said he was on his FOURTH one, last I heard...or his friend was, or something.

My PS3 has worked perfectly since I got it.
It's so silent that it's scary, like, I'm wondering how on Earth it's cooling itself.
Now, I don't have to get a Blu-Ray player.
I watch all of my DVD's, all of my growing Blu-Ray collection, play all of my ancient PS1 games, all of my awesome PS2 games, and now, all the games I dreamed of playing, like GTA4, Oblivion, and soon, Resident Evil 5 and Final Fantasy 13.
I looked at all known games in development or available for the 360.
I was interested in ONE. (Dead Rising).
I looked at the ones for PS3.
I was very interested in ELEVEN of them.
360 is going to be mainly for people who like games developed by Americans.
PS3 is going to be for people who like the Japanese sensibility.
American developers suck ass.
The PS3 looks wicked-awesome.
The Wii and 360 look like something you'd find in a dentist's office.
The controls are awesome.
I despise 360 controls.
360 sucks.
Wii sucks.
PS3 is the best and now that Blu-Ray won, my victory is complete.
If I could transform my PS3 into a woman, I'd marry her.

I've got 360. It's my second. It's a noisy lil ******.

I'm not one of those guys that when they own something they swear by it. I've heard a lot of good things about the PS3. Wilhelm mentioned how quiet they are, I'm sure I heard that that was down to the blue laser it uses, running cooler than the red standard. That could be waffle though. I don't stand by it - even if I did actually here it from someone and had not subconsciously concocted it, it doesn't mean it's true . . . but it does make a certain sense.

And the PS3s do look a lot cooler.

Yeah I'm on my 3rd one but outside the inconvenience of going to Best Buy (I bought a warranty) switching out the hard drives (I'm still on my original one), I was merely annoyed and at the time it was the only one out and I do enjoy the games.

I'm at least two/three generations so i'm not bothered until the prices fall from the sky. It's all about the games for me, I was playing sonic 1 last night, harder than it looks

i hate the ps3...it's just an ugly pile of crap imo...

i got the wii first, cause games are supposed to be fun, and personally i love my wii. i spent hours bowling and web slinging on spider-man 3...but the games were just all about the fun, until Resi 4, then it got awesome...

i then got the 360 and it's freakin awesome. don;t go online cause most of the time i play it i just wanna relax and skate it up on tony hawks or freerun on assassins creed. but i like both my consoles and never even thought about getting the ps3...not even once...

I have the original Xbox and a ps2, i'm hoping to get a PS3 next, i just like the look of it better not to mention there are PS only games that i like, Theres also the big added bonus it's a blu-ray player too. The price isstill a bit steep for me at the moment for a console so i'll wait till it fall's a little more.

anyway, i first bought an Xbox360 because there were SOME next gen games that i wanted to play and i wasn't willing to wait a year and a half for PS3 to lower it's price and get some real good games. i used my Xbox360 for a good year and a half (including last year). it's a system that's designed to basically do 1 thing and that's play video games. there are add-ons and such but i only ever use it for video games. that being said, the video games i own for it are great games and i enjoyed playing them...but i haven't touched my 360 for a while (beginning of this year). also, i had to have it replaced because of the RRoD and even though they replaced it for free...for a system that i payed $400 for i shouldn't have to get it replaced AT ALL.

my PS3, however, is constantly being used...whether to play games or movies. it's very much a multimedia system and i like the PS3 interface better. it's much quieter (try watching a movie on the 360) and i haven't had any major problems (none that i can attribute to the PS3 directly).

i definitely prefer the PS3 over the 360 simply because it's a better built system. it hasn't let me down and it plays blu-ray by default (no add-ons required). however, i wish they would have changed their controller a little bit. i like the way the 360 controller fits in my hand better (more ergonomic) and i like that the thumbsticks have indentations on the top to help prevent slippage (the PS3 controllers don't have indentations).

For once, stand up, state your opinion, and when an idiot says, "That's your opinion.", take that little bit of extra time to rub their nose in how stupid and redundant they're being...like you do with a dog who has made a mess on the carpet, and, it may take a long time, but eventually, maybe the world will learn that we don't need to point out that opinions are opinions!

When I got it, I was so worried about running it for long spans of time, (easy to do playing Elder Scrolls) cause of all the over-heating rumors. But apparently that was just Microsoft Nazi propoganda, cause I've had no trouble at all.

I don't care what anyone else says but the PS3 has more potential. It has better hardware, therefore, it is capable of having better graphics than the 360. 360 has pushed the DVD to the limit and can go no further (and don't get me wrong they have done an amazing job with it), where as the PS3 has a crapload more space to work with on the BD's. And to end it off. You don't hear the government using a 360 as a super computer.
