The Ultimate Question

Mods,

I know this is related to gaming but if it can remain here because it needs to be discussed outside all of the constant banter that is carried out between the two consoles.

Basically,

Sony have been a respected brand, bringing out the Playstation, then the PS2 and then the long awaited PS3. However, Sony have had many problems with its online functions and its lack of good solid games for the first year made buyers very hesitant towards it. Not to mention the high price for the console.

Microsoft on the other hand started with the original Xbox and then moving on to the Xbox 360. Microsoft recently lost out on high definition, blu-ray beat HD DVD's which dis-continued the sale of the 360's HD DVD player. Many problems arose with the red lights where the console would need to be either returned or dealt with using the towel trick (not reccomended).

There have been lots of rivalry between the two next-gen consoles, I just want to hear your views.

I don't want any games mentioned, it's about the console and how well they perform to your standards.

Let the discussion begin.

That's the most important thing about a console though, the games! I don't care what's under the hood as long as the games are great. If it's about what's under the hood, no questions PS3 wins, but I like the 360 more because of the games. I don't care about Blu-Ray, it's going to become the next Laserdisc because the general public isn't ready to switch formats and they also are buying Wiis, not PS3s, so no I don't think it'll catch on. X-Box has a better online service, sure you have to pay for it, but it only comes out to $3.85/month big deal.

I want a system that is delivering games now, not constantly telling me about it's potential. When potential becomes reality, I might buy a PS3, till then I'm sticking with my 360 and Wii because they don't promise potential, they deliver the games I want to play.

All fair views, I know there was a thread in the gaming section but I wanted to bring it to the community as I frequent here more.

Anyway,

I can see where people are coming at with the 360, I've had mine repaired once and it was sent back to me within two weeks.

Since having two PS2's, I started to drift away from Sony. I had no idea why they kept breaking, I was always playing it.

Sony are doing well though with the PS3, likewise Nintendo with the Wii.

I wanted a change, I regret that MGS isn't coming on the 360 but that's the price you pay.

The reason I started this thread was to differentiate this from the actual game board.

I agree, games ARE important to the console. E.g. Exclusive releases like Metal Gear Solid.

This is all about performance, not the games.

I got an Xbox 360 Elite when they first came out, it's a lot more quieter then the standard 360, has all the bugs fixed and it looks sexy in black, that and the games list on Xbox kicks the PS3 list out of the ball park, after all we buy game consoles to play games right so I guess that makes Xbox better.

If this is about performance and not the games, then no contest, hands down, PS3 is the king.

The sony processor is better, and the graphics card is slightly faster.
The advantages of the PS3 over the 360 are higher quality and a longer life cycle.
The wireless controller for PS3 does not require a $50 accessory to recharge.
The PS3 does not require a $100 accessory to connect wirelessly.
The PS3 connects at 1000 (gig-e) speed over wired ethernet, where the 360 is only 100Mega-bit.
The user interface of the XMB is well thought out.
PS3 has Blu-Ray technology. It is superior, and Blu-Ray won the format war.
PS3 is fastest.
PS3 is the quietest
Fewer PS3's break down than 360's.
The PS3 has much better graphics than a Wii, and doesn't depend so heavily on an awkward gimmick.
You aren't charged to go online with a PS3, and you don't have to buy add-ons (or even a separate player) to watch movies.

Absolutely no contest.
