Comics The Ultimate X-MEN Thread

I don't know, Black Queen. Maybe you're reading different version of this book than the rest of us. I think if a poll was done, you'd find the majority of readers are more than satisfied with this book. It ranks about as high if not the same as the flagship X-titles. If the book was that bad, it wouldn't be up there. My suggestion is that if you hate it so badly, you drop it at your earliest convenience if you haven't already. :)
Well I dropped it 2 years ago!!! I think that the title trie to catch up (alternatively) all the classic storylines!! An alternate universe for me is like "age of Apocalypse"...Not Ultimate "let's do this again by new terms"!!!

By the way how was your research???;)

My biggest gripe is that UXM hasn't done anything spectacularly new. Most of the events in this book have happened in the main universe. I find it funny that the writers have much more freedom in this series, but don't do anything new.

It's already been posted that Kirkman and Raney will take over after Magnetic North.

I for one love the UXM book,it's the only book on my pull list at my shop.It definitely beats all this House of M mumbojumbo going on.I have always been a fan of the X-Men and own several back issues. However, fans like me who want to come back to reading the books will enjoy UXM because it's just only just begun even though we're 60+ issues into the run and it just has a freshness to it.

The point of Ultimate X-men and all the Ultimate titles was to allow new readers to jump on to an X book without already being familair with all that continuity. This was said when the series launched. This is not a "what if" book, it's for newer readers or the curious like myself. Going over old groud was to be expected.

oh. so singer is not writing UXM.
He is, and I think the arc is done, they just haven't actually made it. It's just sitting on a shelf somewhere waiting to be made.

I like this title too much to drop it. For me it's been too much fun seeing my people reimagined. It don't take it personally if something is radically different (ie. Henry's mean parents and Longshot being a dick), I just accept it as AU and go with the flow.

Alot of people on here are overly critical of many writer's today. As long as a writer can give me a good entertaining story to put my feet up to for 5 or 10 minutes,to me it's a good story.UXM rules.

Check out "Ultimate Nightmare".

And I think The Ultimates has been and still is the best book Marvel puts out. And I really like the UXM books. They are doing a fine job with them, too.

Nightmare was good, I'm just disappointed that it's sequel, Ultimate Secret, was so long delayed. At least it's catching up now. Both runs have been very good.

Brian K. Vaughn is too bad a writer to be on something like Ultimate X-Men that used to be so amazingly good. I'm only still reading because i'm hoping soon another writer will get onboard but this is so bad it's painful. I'm going to quit Ult. X-Men soon. His plots are overly simple and he takes things like mr. sinister and makes them some of the poorest stories that seem like he's just trying to make a deadline not make a good story. it's like he gets lazy. in this recent Magnetic North issue, he probably ruined a good chance to use mystique (by having her be the one to screw up polaris's powers) when it was all mysterious if she was the cat or not. Polaris and Magneto sharing a cell and Magneto is able to beat her up because no one is supervising? what kind of crap is that? i thought he did a horrible job with Sinister and Deathstrike, now this crap.

There have been some nice fresh ideas but it's strange how strictly some things are kept the same. Magneto and Sabretooth are carbon copies or the originals. I was rather impressed when Ultimate Psylocke got killed in the same story she was introduced in. But shortly thereafter she came back, and guess what? She was in the body of a Chinese woman! Ooh, the originality is just killing me. [/sarcasm]
