Comics The Ultimate X-MEN Thread

Yeah... look at Thunderbird III, Slipstream, StaceyX, Lifeguard and the rest of these cool new characters :D.

Yeah... Stacy-X. She's SO cool. *gag*

Thunderbird III was nifty, sure. Slipstream, eh. Lifeguard was neato, though.

However, they weren't made by Herr Kirkman, were they? No. You've got to consider that I clearly do not much like this fellow's first two issues, and thus will not believe that he'd make a cool or neat original character. =P

At least CC, at the time that he started writing X-Treme, still had a slight grasp on reality, and has been writing X-Men for how long?

You're basing Kirkman's ENTIRE abilities based on two issues of Ultimate X-Men that you didn't like? That's ridiculous. Kirkman has made quite a reputation as a very talented writer and his original comic Invincible has received rave reviews.

No clues at all. Kirkman could have at least offered some type of foreshadowing.

We might even all be jumping the gun in assuming that it's a mutant with a death factor. It doesn't have to be. Kirkman could probably make the parents have died by any means. And didn't that kid with the death factor - the one who Wolverine had to kill - make his victims turn skeletal and then to dust? This kid's parents were still lifelike.

I live in fear of the unholy prospect that this character is some type of new, original character.

I assumed death factor because people like Omega Red and Holocaust kill their victims and they don't look roughed up at all. They just simply die.

And you shouted praises after the same two issues that you DID like. Two sides of the same coin.

But no. Nowhere in either of my posts did I talk about Kirkman's ENTIRE abilities. I said that I don't like his first two issues, that I have problems with the dialogue, and some of his ideas. Note also that I pointed out good things, thanks.

And just because he has a reputation as a very talented writer whose original comic has splendid reviews does not make him cut out to be a good X-Men writer. I believe I've an example to cite here. Ah, yes. Milligan, anyone? When Milligan was being put on Adjectiveless, did we not all whoop and cheer and talk about how great and groundbreaking X-Statix was? And what do we think of Milligan's run now, ladies and gentlemen? We cringe.

Great original comics does not necessarily equal great X-Men comics.

Um, no, there's a difference. I sang his praises on what he HAS done, not on what he's yet to do. I described what I liked about the two issues he has done. You expected any future original character he created in the series to be unworthy because you didn't like his two issues of Ultimate. You claimed he won't be able to create an interesting original character and I cited an example where he did. Criticize him all you want on the issues he's written, but it is ridiculous to criticize him for things he has yet to do.

Don't forget that he must have some teleportation ability too, since he was in the house one moment and out in that field the next.

Or it could just be a really, really, really screwed up dream/nightmare sequence complete with random flashback-type things. Did he really teleport, or was he unconscious in the field and thinking about finding his parents dead and the cops barging in?

This is Ultimates, but still will involve the Ult X-Men:

I'm LOVING Kirkmaans arc so far...just dissapointed that Rogue's original powers are completely gone, although judging by the letters page. her power change might not be...unchangeable

I am dissapointed too. I don't like Rogue having Gambit's powers. And speaking about Gambit, why the hell did they kill him off!? It still pisses me off. That ultimate annual was so lame :down Rogue doesn't seem to mind though, Gambit's dead and 2 days later, Rogue is all over Bobby like she never had a thing with Remy in the first place. I hope Gambit comes back with a bang.

She has Gambit's personality now. He likes women, so now Rogue is after guys.

*squeekness just read the latest issue that came out today and she can't help but wonder what Sabretooth and Cornelius are up to now* Ultimate X-23? Or Ultimate Wildchild?

Yeah Cornelius looked crizazy.

I was a little disappointed on how they didn't really talk about the Nightcrawler/Colossus situation....:(

Is this Boggs character made for the Ultimate universe?

Yes.

Also, for those who haven't picked up the issue, the most notable developments in the issue were:

~ Lilandra's religion of the Sh'iar stems from a legend that the Earth is actually a prison for the Phoenix, formed by alien races who feared her, locking her away in a cage and then building the planet around that, forming Earth, so she was locked away at the core, and Jean is believed to be the vessel to set her free.
~ Sabretooth's fight with Wolverine has a more ulterior motive. Dr. Cornelius is still alive and wanted a chunk of Wolverine's flesh to build thier own Wolverine. Ultimate X-23 anyone?

I agree with you on the last part Spec, it has to be that.

Why didn't they cover Nightcrawler/Colossus?!?!?!?!

just got done reading the bk. i liked the whole idea of the phoenix explanation and more about the shair religion. the wolvie & sabretooth conversation was alright. the last pages i have no freakin clue what sabretooth and the doc have planned. i guess next issue will b more about the phoenix. cant wait just. im guessing the mutant sheild captured is ultimate cable or ultimate x-man.

They did -- weakly. They showed Colosuss sulking off by himself, presumably because he thinks NC hates him now.

I doubt this is going to happen, but imagine Ultimate Gah Lak Tus' surprise when he/it/they try to eat the Earth and burns his/its/their collective tongue on the chewy Phoenix center!

This pisses me off so much.

The entire point of Ultimate X-Men was to translate the 616 X-Men into a new reality where the characters we knew became something different. Why are they (potentially)creating original characters or bringing in new and CRAPPY 616 characters when there are so many other characters out there left to introduce that are interesting and have great potential.

Why not use any of the following (forgive me if I mention one that has been in Ultimate, I might have forgotten):

Banshee
Thunderbird I (doesn't anyone want to see what the first 616 X-Men casualty can do in this universe?)
Cable
Bishop (they don't necessarily have to be from the future)
Almost any of the New Mutants
-Cannonball
-Magik (wouldn't that be an interesting dynamic?)
-Sunspot
-Moonstar
-Magma
-Wolfsbane
Jubilee (some people hate her, but why not re-imagine her, that's what this universe is for)
Sunfire (a very unique character that should have always been used more)
Strong Guy
Multiple Man

I'm sure there are more. I just thought of those off the top of my head.

Maybe I'm just complaining, but I think it is too early to start making up original characters or bringing in ones that are still new in the 616 universe, and haven't even really taken shape there yet (like X-23).

Cannonball, Sunspot, and Magik already appeared. Magik didn't have her powers though.
