You can copyright a specific interpretation of Norse mythology, though. All hammers are not created equal. You're right, it did look more like Marvel's Mjolnir in the graphic novels, but Marvel's got a movie coming out with their Mjolnir soon, so I can understand why they'd have to change Scott Pilgrim's version. Then again, it's not like SP's was a carbon-copy of Marvel's or anything. But either way, the movie version looked cool, I thought. It's actually more like mythological representations of Mjolnir, except for the longer handle.

I doubt that would be an issue. It's not like they would refer to it as that, and if anyone said anything, all they would have to do is say it was a homage or deny it, I mean it's just a hammer at the end of the day

Lightsabers are really specific, hammers aren't. It would have to be detailed down to a tee for there to be any real lawsuit even considered. I'm going with a visual and artistic guess for why they changed it.

If they changed Thor's hammer a lot, you would have. But it's not like Ramona's hammer is super-integral to the character or has weathered 40 years of comics almost totally unchanged or anything. She uses it like twice in the whole series and it doesn't really need to look any which way for story purposes. It was a big hammer that she illogically pulled out of her purse. The moment was preserved and it worked just fine, even if the hammer looked a little bit different.
