I used to be one of those soccer is boring types. Sometime around my senior year of high school (2005) I caught an EPL match on ESPN. I was hooked. Sure, sometimes neither team scores and draws are common but there's an excitement to soccer that is undeniable to me. The anticipation, the build up, when you're watching the play develop and you see the player about to score and then you get up out of your seat and he hits the frame of the goal and the player is denied his glory. That is drama. Plus, I'm a baseball fan but most of the time in baseball, guys are just standing around. Non stop running in soccer.
baseball is also really boring. i could live with that anticipation argument if hockey didn't exist, but it does. i feel like at the meeting that created hockey there were a bunch of guys sitting around a table and one guy said "what if we took everything that sucks about soccer and made it awesome instead?" and then one weedy guy at the end of the table in a sequins jumpsuit said "and put it on ice!" and everyone was so excited about the previous suggestion they just went along with it and that's how hockey was born

I am both a sports fan and a comic fan, I see the resentment one group has for the other....that thousands of people fill sports arenas every year for events whilst no one reads comics anymore

that athletes get put up on pedastals but no one gives a **** about your Ambush Bug movie

I get it, but this is one of those convenient hypocrisy things

sports is just cooler (socially acceptable)

Do you really believe this generalized stuff, or is it just part of your persona you like to play on here? Honest question, too, not being snide, just generally beginning to be curious.

But hockey suffers from the same problems. The only difference is the hitting and fighting.

I'm in the same boat as Darth....used to crap all over soccer, than saw an EPL match one day....I'm a casual fan, but I do enjoy it...it's a decent way to start my Saturday

you know what i've always thought you guys should that would be really cool? try winning a flipping championship game:dry:

I knew my comment would backfire :csad:
im still living through the pain.

just basing off of people I know....one of my close friends (comic book fan) absolutely hates sports, talks **** about them constantly, and my cousin, who im close with, big sports nut, doesn't understand the appeal of stuff like Iron Man or TDK

he's seen them but doesn't understand the culture around them

like i said, "and make it awesome"...

To each his own. I can't get into hockey. I've gone to a couple of games, the atmosphere is nice but it's one of those things that doesn't translate well to TV IMO. There's a reason soccer is the most watched sport in the world, it's growing in America. Climb on the gravy train Lix.

yes, that reason is because most of the world is poor and soccer is dirt cheap. put up a basketball court in every town in every third world country and see how long it takes for it to replace soccer as worlds most watched sport

If they're so poor how can they afford cable?:o:o:o:o

Game. Set. Match.

Actually, just recently returned from a 3rd world country, there are a lot of basketball courts.

but for a proper game you need a decent ball and some hoops....with soccer, you can make a ball and just need a point of reference for a goal....two cars, two pieces of trash, etc

then the revolution is beginning. soon they'll build their own stadiums, then their own leagues, then...i won't have to hear people ***** about the american team losing all the time despite being full of pros, because all the teams will be full of pros! YAY!!!

Like I said, at least in Managua, there are plenty of basketball courts. Actual rims, courts, everything.
