Byking announces Magicians Dead for arcade

Powered by Unreal Engine 4, controlled via a motion sensor.

Byking, developer of the Gunslinger Stratos arcade games and Rise of Incarnates for PC, announced its latest arcade title, Magicians Dead, at the Japan Amusement Expo in Chiba today.

The Unreal Engine 4-powered game, which is set in a world of magicians-versus-psychics, is a multiplayer battle action title controlled with the players hands and fingers via a no-touch motion sensor similar to Kinect.

Players take on the role of a magician or psychic and make use of various powers to defeat their opponents in vast fields where a number of players can participate. Players can also grasp, lift, and toss objects, and two people can interfere on the same object.

Here are the first details:
■ Setting
Magicians, those endowed with mysterious powers since ancient times—
Throughout the world, murals, carvings, and data that remains even today suggests a history of co-existence with humans…
But then, following terrorist activities that took place all over the world, rumors began to spread about it being the work of magicians.

It was someone’s conspiracy, different from the truth…
However, responding to the requests for public order, over a period of many years a group of people with artificially created super powers, popularly known as “E.I.X.”, came to coexist and arrest the magicians, and cases of murder occurred. Just like a modern day witch hunt.

In an effort to stand against the persecution of which they are innocent, the magicians launch a counterattack.

IBM Japan has announced Sword Art Online: The Beginning, a virtual reality project that aims to realize the world of the popular Sword Art Online light novel series.

The project uses a a next-generation computing system called the “Cognitive System” that supports human decision-making, as well as “SoftLayer,” IBM’s high performance cloud system that produces the ambiance of a real world.

At the official website, IBM are taking applications until March 4 for a prototype alpha test to be held between March 18 and 20 in Tokyo. A total of 208 applicants will be accepted.

HTC Vive will cost $799 but comes with two controllers and sensors

February 22, 2016 68 Comments

There’s no getting away from it, VR gaming is going to be an expensive hobby to get into. Between the high system specs required to run VR games at 60 frames per second and the cost of the headsets themselves, gamers could be shelling out a lot of money on hardware on the near future. The Oculus Rift’s hefty price tag of $599 caused something of a raucous online, but now it looks like it’s actually going to be the cheaper option for a high-grade VR headset as the HTC Vive has been given a release price of $799.

The Vive is being produced in partnership with Valve and is powered by Steam VR, and pre-order customers will get copies of two launch games: Job Simulator and Fantastic Contraption. Though the package is $200 more expensive than the Oculus Rift, it comes with two wireless controllers and positional sensors that can track your movement inside an entire room, making games where you can move around inside a virtual environment possible.

The two wireless controllers can also be used as accurate motion controls, becoming your hands inside that virtual environment. For the moment, it seems this is the closest we’ll get to creating something like the Star Trek Holodeck. Pre-orders open in one week on Monday, February 29th, at 10 a.m. EST.

Conker Reappears As Young Conker For The Microsoft HoloLens. February 29, 2016 . 10:30am

Conker’s next starring role will be in Young Conker,
a Microsoft HoloLens game.
[YT]uQeOYi3Be5Y[/YT]

Conker is getting a new adventure, and it relies upon Microsoft’s HoloLens. Microsoft has announced Young Conker will come with each Microsoft HoloLens Development Edition. It is a platformer where Conker runs around in and interacts with your environment.

If the HoloLens is in your living room, then Young Conker turns that area into the game’s level.

Young Conker will adapt to players’ environments. The shape of the room will change the tactical approach to the game.

He could end up running up a wall to get additional coins or go after an enemy, if there’s no room space for him. Character animations depend on context as well, with one example showing Conker experiencing vertigo when he gets too close to an ledge of a ledge. He’s also shown using a device that looks like a helicopter to fly up higher in the room.

TheMicrosoft HoloLens Development Edition costs $3,000 and will be released on March 30, 2016. People must apply with Microsoft to get a unit.

I'll quote myself from the PSVR thread:

http://vrdorado.com/article/2016-03-15-psvr-price-announced-at-gdc-399-coming-october-2016

October 2016; $399.99. HOWEVER, Camera is required for PSVR to function but is not bundled with the system, Move controllers are Optional also not bundled with the system. As it stands now, the PS4 camera is $50 MSRP, and the Move is also $50 MSRP though you can find them for much cheaper.

It's weird to me that they are requiring the camera, but not bundling. Pre-orders are opening tomorrow either way.

So, basically while PSVR is $400, to actually be able to us it you'll be paying around $450 unless you can find a hell'a deal on the camera. Not clear yet to what level the Move controllers will be needed for the experience, though.

I still don't know where I fall on VR. I think it's just gonna be something that I need to experience before I can make a call.

Same. My personal thought is that it will be a cool aside to gaming and entertainment, but I really don't think it's the future like a lot of people and companies are banking on it being. I think it'll have more life than 3D, though.

Yea Iv spoken with people who have gone hands on with VR and they claim it's a transformative experience. Yet on the other hand Iv heard people claim "yea it's kinda neat". So I'm still confused. I don't have an issue with the price though, at least Sonys VR. Iv considered spending that much on a racing wheel, so if VR ends up being something I can dig, I don't have an issue spending that much.
