New VR game based on an "established, long-running franchise."
A well-known European studio is planning a new VR game set in the universe of an established, long-running franchise, and its in development for a PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One release in 2017, according to an Ars Technica report. The website says it will be announced at E3 next month and feature the word VR in the title.
This information comes via pre-E3 planning sent to Ars Technica and was confirmed by the studios public relations representative.
The news here, of course, is that a virtual reality game is planned for release on Xbox One, lending further credence to rumors earlier this week that Microsoft plans to release a virtual reality-compatible Xbox One in late 2017, that it also plans on announcing at E3 next month.

As an elite agent of a hacker group, players will attack the sinister Eden Corp as either a Cyber Ninja or Gun Cleric, using their own bodies to utilize unique abilities in VR action gameRaw Data.
Players will have to sling or shoot their own weaponry to turn back the tide of intelligent, dangerous robots. Using their own limbs, players can aim their slashes, do trick shots with their guns, nock and fire explosive arrows, hurl grenades, and carry out the combat of Raw Data.
The game’s two classes come with special powers for their preferred weapons, using bullet time, telekinesis, sword throwing, and other abilities. Players can also hack into the facility’s defenses, using turrets and barricades to their advantage. If that isn’t enough help, players can bring in an online co-op partner to aid in the fight.
Raw Data is available now on Steam Early Access.

There’s a distinction between games that are inspired by or pay homage to other games, and the game clones that are clear rip-offs. Sometimes the knock-off may become a runaway success, and other times it can get tangled up in a legal battle.
However, it’s possible the emergence of VR could encourage more studios to take an innovative approach to game development. In an interview with VRScout, Mirage Interactive CEO Ke Wang explains why game cloning is prevalent, particularly within the Chinese development community, and how VR is changing the development process for some companies.
When asked why Chinese developers often copy other successful titles, Wang reveals the choice is not really up to the devs themselves. “Chinese game developers really hate to copy other people’s games,” Wang explains. “The problem is, it’s not up to them. Usually the investor of the company forces them to copy because it is profitable.”
Investors looking to break into the emerging VR market, though, have to settle for an development approach that encourages creativity rather than copying. “In VR, there are not that many games to copy, so developers are free to experiment and make new experiences,” Wang continues. “Once the trend for game developers show that being innovative will be more profitable than copying, then copying will become poison.”
Wang has charted the course for the development of Mirage Interactive’s own upcoming VR title, Heroes of the Seven Seas, with an original gameplay experience in mind. He also seems hopeful that VR can bring about an end to game cloning throughout the industry. “Mirage Interactive has never copied any game,” he remarks. “Hopefully copying games will be terminated in ten to twenty years.”
