The Viva Pinata Hype Thread (that's right, ANOTHER)

This is probably my favorite screenshot of this game, it just looks beautiful. If you look, you'll see that the paper-mache effect actually changes with the weather, and they actually look wetted down, and the whole thing just generally looks awesome. Reminds me of a Tim Burton claymation type thing for some reason.

Manny, not sure if you are done ****ting your pants from yesterday, but I will clear the air here since you have an inexplicable fear of me on messenger for some reason...

Ok, even though I believe the primary audience for this title is kids, I have no problem with adults playing it. Where you got confused was you assumed that I did, when all I was trying to point out that the point of this game is to bring the kid's market to the x box, first and foremost. why do you think its being developed into a cartoon as well? Theres nothing wrong with it, but don't deny the core audience of who it was created for.

My only problem with you liking this game is that you tried to make it out as something amazingly new and innovative (which it isn't) which wasn't primarily designed for kids (which it was). Im not saying that means adults cant play and enjoy it, for god's sake, Im simply saying dont deny the reason it exists is to bring a younger market to x box, not to be something new and innovative for all ages.

That may be the worst backtracking ever. Don't deny the core audience? I've been talking about the core audience being one of the reasons MS green lit the project for several pages in response to you, with you always disagreeing that they should have bought "Rockstar" or some crap like that to appeal to people that are already WELL covered. You're problem with me liking this game isn't that I tried to make it out to be something amazingly new and innovative, because I didn't do that, at best I said it was a breath of fresh air on the 360 platform and that certain visual effects were "innovative". You lose, a million times over, just stop posting here :down

Ok guys, we get it. You should have been swallowed, you weren't, you're angry, you're taking it out on the internet by flooding it with stupid **** like 'playing fun games isn't nearly as mature as playing a game with hookers, because sex makes me giggle'. We get it, I promise. We got it on page one. It's over now.

*sigh*
Have you played Animal Crossing, or maybe Sims or Pikmin? It's in that same loose 'genre', to give you an idea of what's fun about it. Like I said in the first post, I know the genre sounds dumb on paper, you just have to play it to understand it.

So you are actually saying that buying Rare over say rockstar was a good decision? Having fanchises like Conker, Viva Pinata and Perfect Dark is more than equal to say Grand Theft Auto? Hell, GTA ALONE is worth more than all of Rare's output all together in the console war. Microsoft wanted them to make an impact, and did they? No. They made no difference in the console war first time round, and won't this time either. At $250 million, that HAS to be a disappointment.

If you are honestly trying to say that having Viva Pinata as an exclusive is a far better idea than having all future GTA's console exclusive, then I just laugh at you.

Rare has not been as impactful as Microsoft hoped, and the last two games for 360 got mixed receptions, at best, and only sold as well as they did since they were launch titles.

So you fail. Go play with your barbies now :o

Hmm, why would franchises that previously would NEVER have appeared on the Xbox platform be more valuable than franchises that are ALREADY on it...gee, I wonder. If you were running MS, I have a feeling you would have used the Rare money to just rebuy Bungie. As for the impact...were they supposed to? Rare was purchased for this generation, and this generation, they delivered two critically acclaimed commercially successful launch titles, more than any other Microsoft first party, quite the impact. So yeah, wrong. And the Barbie line pretty much perfectly sums up the reason you pretty much get laughed off now.

Do you know what exclusive means? If Microsoft brought take two/rockstar, it would have ALL GTAS IN FUTURE EXCLUSIVLY. In case you live under a rock, GTA is pretty much THE system seller, the record shattering game series that would be like having a goldmine in your back yard.

Or are you saying you don't think having all future GTA games exclusive would make a difference?

Or a better question: which will sell more: viva pinata or GTA 4?

And hell, rebuying bungie would be a better idea than spunking cash on the currently useless rare.

Totally hopeless. Welcome to my ignore list. I wouldn't even put people like Riz, Spiderdogg, or Oregondude on my ignore list, even though I wanted to stab all three in the face for stupidity, just to put that into perspective for you.

Does this mean we won't be able to play pokemon this weekend? :(

Animal Crossing? Nope. I don't have a Gamecube.

The Sims? No, though I have played SimCity.

Pikmin? I don't have a Gamecube.

Hmm...well, this is a totally invalid comparison probably, but I'll make it anyways. You know how in Simcity, you would start with just this ruined patch of dirt and you'd add buildings and more people would come in and you'd have more tax revenue to build better things for more people and how you'd have to build things based on the demands of the people already there? Viva Pinata will sort of be like that.

You start in an almost-desert with just patches of dead grass and ruins around, and you go from there, you just build a garden to attract more and different species, just like you would build your city in SimCity to attract people, but it's a little more complex than that. Certain Pinata's just don't like each other and will fight over resources, some of them will mate and create whole new breeds that might threaten your other stuff, etc. You can also attract "bad pinata's" (I don't know what their actual name is, the red looking evil thing in one of the screenshots I posted is an example though) which will also eat up your resources and other pinata's, which I guess would be comparable to natural disasters in Simcity.

You have to be more creative with ways to get rid of them though, because if you take the direct approach and just cross breed some doomsday pinata to go and kick it's ass, it'll burst and it's candy will go everywhere, and any pinata that eats it has a small chance of going "bad" and causing your problem to just get bigger.

There's also an online enconomy thing with it, with you being able to mail a box back and forth with a friend containing several pinata's. For example, if my friend has a problem with bad pinata's, and I have a problem with...something, I don't know, I could mail him a breed of doomsday pinata's that I've created in exchange for him mailing me the building plans for something new, or a new breed, something like that.

That's a really loose comparison, and there's more to the game than that, but yeah, if you liked Simcity/ever play and like Animal Crossing, you'll like Viva Pinata. You can probably find better info here, if you want it.

I liked creating a city and then destroying it.

The exploding pinatas sound cool

You dont need to have a Gamecube to know what they are.

In hindsight, I don't know why I listed Pikmin, this game doesn't really have much in common with it

Because you're a lil nancy boy, thats why.

But anyway, well done Microsoft. Nevermind the fact that Rare made no difference whatsoever in the console war first time round and haven't got great reviews in years. DRT says you were worth it so there you go. $250 million vindicated :o

I've read about Animal Crossing and Pikmin. I've no interest in playing either.

Regardless, if you hate Animal Crossing, don't buy this.

You don't know what you're missing with Pikmin.

Kid comercials are annoying. :(

But the end was funny.

"NO PROMISES!!!"

I'll have to wait until X06, but I think this game may actually make it's target 06 release date, which fills me with joy.
