The Wachowskis Returning to Sci-Fi with Jupiter Ascending

People always predict the latest W.Siblings movie to be a hit and they never are. Speed Racer was a huge flop and Cloud Atlas was a big disappointment. The siblings are too far up their own asses. I'll never say never but I don't have faith that the W.Sibs have learned anything. And comparing this to Alice In Wonderland is silly as everyone knows what Alice in Wonderland is. That movie was based on a massively popular book.

if you direct a movie based on the book and the design looks weird then someone always defends the creative choices that they are based on the book. but if someone makes an original movie they get bashed.

i dont understand what is the problem with this movie. its not based on a book,comicbook,..... noones childhood will get raped. no money was stolen from the bank to make this movie. the studio is paying for an original script. lets support two artists for doing something crazy,weird and original.

My problem with the movie is that it's being made by two filmmakers whom haven't made a good movie in 14 years IMHO. Yes, I love original films and wish them success most of the time but I don't know what to wish this film because I have been badly burned by the directors for over a decade now. You can't ask me to just blindly support this film when I feel that way. I'll only support the film if I like it, otherwise I won't be rooting it on at the box office or anywhere else.

The comparisons to Alice in Wonderland were simply in reaction to complaints that the aesthetic isn't marketable.

Certainly everyone knows what Alice in Wonderland is, but that doesn't make the Mad Hatter design, or really every single thing about the movie not obnoxious and garish as hell.

I'm glad something like this exist because I want more imaginative sci-fi movies out there. Besides Star Wars, I hope this one takes the leap to create a new universe with a certain over-the-topness that says nay to traditional 'hard' sci-fi.

Yeah, it is a bit odd, from what we know. A space queen is pissed, because she's related to a lowly janitor, so she tries to have her killed? Weird. Of course, I'm assuming she wants to kill off potential usurpers maybe, that would make it less odd.

Little known young woman poses a threat to the Evil Queen's rule so the queen seeks to kill her, quite often by sending a man to kill her. Many variations on that theme.

I was walking down Michigan Ave. today and if you live in the city you know that one alley right before you hit Wacker that has like umpteen fire escapes. They're shooting a scene there all week for the flick. The girl that was guarding it basically told me in a whisper the movie's title since they don't want a bunch of groupies trying to get a glimpse of you know who apparently. I'll try and a get some pictures tomorrow.
