The Watcher: Yay Or Nay?

I think it sounds like we are making this movie, way too big for its britches. As my mother would say.

I think the speculation is getting waaay ahead of itself. Every possibility under the sun has been thrown out there, and many of those suggestions would make a very cluttered film.

I expect something relatively close to the original story. If done properly, that would easily fit in a 1 1/2 - 2 hour movie with room for more details to be added.

And nothing official we have heard as yet has hinted it will be much different than that.

thats IT....do we keep Story's quote of seeing "Real Doom"????, do we go with Jessica's quote of "another villain" besides Silver Surfer????

Things we know vs. things we've heard from sources other than the writer's of the script Story and Avi....is stirring up a multitude of "what if's"....I think we draw a possible story around Silver Surfer and Doom.....but not much further than that....IMHO....

Just 3 months ago we thought Puppetmaster was the villain, and we heard that as a possibility from Avi...

With a new love triange possible....is there a marriage in this one????? is the love triangle with Silver Surfer??????

Oh and after a few days of thought....NO to the Watcher...

Oh and BTW, from a very good source.....on a LA morning talk show, Kelsey Grammar said that there is talk of "Beast" being in the F4 sequel....Just thought I'd throw that out there for some of you to chew on for awhile....

I just saw tape of Kelsey Grammer on a local LA morning show, the one with Steve Edwards,
from earlier in the week, or maybe late last week. He's there promoting X-MEN 3, and saying
officially that X3 is the last X-MEN...and then says 3 things of note.

1) Grammer's Beast character may be included if there are future X-Men movies...(a no-brainer,
he was one of the best things about X3)

2) He said there's talk of including Beast in FANTASTIC FOUR 2.

3) He still supports President Bush (I always thought he was highly intelligent, but I guess you
can't know everything)

This second bit of info sounds like wishful thinking to me on his part, but I have to say, if they
can do it right, I have no problem with that at all...

My bet: The "Full Doom" Tim Story mentioned was the original plan along with Puppetmaster, but at some point they decided they might be able to pull off Galactus (which Tim Story had already said he was interested in, but Avi wouldn't let him). The Fox brass thought about it and realized it might make sense to introduce the Surfer and Galactus in FF rather than trying a stand-alone film, so they asked Don Payne to rough out a draft to see if it could work. They liked what they saw and decided to go with it.

And I still haven't seen anything to make me think Galactus isn't the "other villain", so until we get some more details, I'm going with the assumption that we're getting a reasonably straightforward Galactus/SS movie.

And I HOPE the "love triangle" was a bit of a joke and referred to Franklin. Anything else would be very wrong IMO, and since I'm an optimist, I'm hoping for the best.

But we'll see.

I'd love to see the Watcher. He is an interesting character. I doubt we will see him, but if they do a Surfer movie in the future, much like that really good cartoon they had, I'd like to see the Watcher narrate it.

While it would be great to see the Watcher in the movie, his role is pretty superfluous.

In the original comic, he served as an early warning system and encyclopedia to the FF, and provided the Torch the means to get the ultimate nullifier.

In the end, while it told a pretty powerful story, it kind of detracts from the strength of the FF. The FF are handed knowledge of Galactus and handed the weapon to defeat him.

It would be a testament to the FF, and especially Reed, who, upon hearing what Galactus is/brings from the Silver Surfer... figures out how to defeat Galactus on his own.

If they do plan on using The Watcher in some form. He should be more of a floating avatar. But he really shouldn't hand much knowledge over. Just cryptic things on who SS is and what he's on earth for. Or just show up at the end and tell of Galactus...in a cryptic way.

I voted "yay" for the Watcher, but I want him to show up and warn the FF of the impending crisis, not solve it for them.

Why would he do that ? He's the Watcher... Nay.
