Well, I'll put it to you in a political situation.

In 2007, Antarctica had to vote in a referendum if "Ghost Rider" was good. 26% percent of people voted yes, 74% voted no. It was legislated that Ghost Rider was indeed trash.

In 2014, Antarctica had to vote in a referendum if "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" was good. 52% of people voted yes, 48% voted no. It was legislated that TASM2 was indeed good.

The majority of people say that TASM2 was good, and the Majority of people say ghost rider was bad. That's why the brief comparison of the two to dismiss your friends point was a little disengenous

It also got an average rating of 5.9/10, whereas I would give it a 3/10. So in other words, I think critics overrated it.

I gave the movie a 6/10, so I'd say the movie is simply...rated, at least as far as critics are concerned. :yay:

Eh. It's not overrated, but it definitely isn't underrated. The movie is a solid 6.5/10 in my eyes. Just like others have said, the same league as X-men, Thor, CA:TFA, and Sm1.

It just didn't blow too many peoples minds, and quite frankly that is something TDK and TA have accomplished.

The question of whether TASM2 is under-rated is pretty much even based on this poll. Thus it maintains the 'divisive', love it or hate it reputation. Thus endless back and forths are ensured to last long into the future. :funny:

Sorry, but then how is 53% at Rotten Tomatoes 'overrated'?
A lot of people I know are saying it was the best Spidey movie and one of the greatest comicbook movies of all time.
Anyway, RT score is pretty accurate. The movie gets what it deserves.

yeah, but these people aren't the majority.

Then you have no reason to call it overrated.

And the latter part is just your opinion, don't state it as fact.

He didn't state it as a fact, you just disagree with him and are looking to place some sort of shame. In grammar school you're taught opinions are statements undefinable by exact terms, while facts are. It's totally acceptable to state ones opinion without prefacing it's an opinion, because that's just redundant.

Not around these parts. Unless you preface everything with "IMO", your every word will be overscrutinized and skewed.

Seems like shameless shills and sycophants are the only ones who don't need to follow that unwritten rule. Apparently, when they say that all of these movies are the best thing since sliced bread, they're genuinely speaking from the heart, but when anyone else says otherwise, it's "STOP STATING YOUR OPINION AS FACT, YOU TROLL!!!!!"

When you enjoy a divisive film it can suck and you're emotional and wanting to defend the film. I get that as it happened to me last year and I'm still defending that film because I liked it and I will continue to defend it and look forward to probably defending it's follow up as well. I get the fans of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 on a certain level and I sympathize with you not liking your pet movie being attacked as much as it has been, that **** can get overwhelmingly frustrating. Just be happy that your movie isn't pointlessly brought up in every ****ing review for a genre film that has citywide destruction in it. Just be happy that your film isn't randomly brought up when you are trying to watch reviews for other films. You still don't have to deal with that frustration so lucky you.

This all brings me to answering the question that the thread posed. ****ing NAY it isn't underrated, if anything I think that the film has gotten a huge pass from many circles. I believe this film deserves way more hate than it has garnered. I think if this movie wasn't about Spider-Man and from some cutesy indie director it would have a 40% rating and a 4/10 average on Rotten Tomatoes and be seen as the cluster**** that it is. I'm actively waiting until these on the fence people come around after the DVD release and finally start treating this film as the joke that it is.

So I started out writing one post and it morphed into something else completely and the only explanation that I can you guys is that this was the post I really writing all along. Also, apologies for the strong language.
