The "Where You At?" thread

Uk, Manchester. Home of ... Mancunians.

It's a lovely place. Just like everywhere else. Tramps being sick in plastic bags, knife crime, prostitutes that don't put-out, and most people have cars that they do not own. All this makes the smell of new-cut grass all the sweeter

I live in West Virginia now... I've lived in both VA and WV they're both great places with tremendous amounts of beauty and scenery. Just as long as you're not looking at the obese people with 4 teeth.

Why is there a WV but not an East Virginia?

Boggles don't it.

When West Virginia seperated from Virginia in the 1800s there were several ideas for awesome names like Potomia (Named after the Potomic) and Kick-Ass-Better-than-Wolverine-Batman-Virginia-and-The-Hulk Virginia, but those both got turned down. We got stuck being Virginia's unsightly tumor.

God knows I tried, but there is very little I can post from my town, except typical suburban subdivisions. I had to post a pic of my old high school. We have a lake but I cant seem to download any pics to photobucket. :cmad: I only recently realized that we have every chain restaurant under the sun but nothing to actually doSeriously, its one restuarant after another on the main street for miles. We have a mini golf range but it closes at 8:00 in the summer. The whole damn town closes down at 8:00. No wonder people are so fat...

Born and raised near Charleston, West Virgina, where the major industry is strip clubs.

I live in Columbus, OH now, but I originally hail from Mansfield, OH, a town of less than 50,000 which is probably best known for the Mansfield Reformatory prison, which is the prison where they shot many of the scenes from THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION. It was also the prison seen at the beginning of AIR FORCE ONE, and...a few other films.

We're also the town that was on Nancy Grace recently because some girl I went to school with ran off with her child and a known child molester and led the FBI and police a merry chase across the country.

Supposedly, our city was a key nuclear target during the Cold War, because the only thing you cannot land on our airfield is the space shuttle.

One of the better ski areas in the country, Snow Trails, is in or near Mansfield.

It's near something called Mohican Country, which is a campground/attraction location, rivers, canoing, rafting, etc.

We have a branch of the Ohio State University, where I took three years of classes.

There's a really cool park/estate called Kingwood Center, where everyone goes for prom and wedding photos.

There's also a sprawling historical farm called Malabar Farm nearby.

Our library is supposed to be world famous or something as well.

The Renaissance Theatre, which is this massive old timey theatre downtown, is one of finest community theaters I've ever seen, done a few shows there.

And there was a Johnny Appleseed outdoor drama that soon got millions of dollars into debt.

We used to have a semi professional basketball team, but they left after like two years.

They thought about bringing in a Cleveland Indians minor league team, but that was a stupid idea.

They just closed down one of the GM plants, one of the few that were closed down.

We have a Detroit drug connection, and used to have a Mansfield mob that operated out of a Wiener King backroom.

At least twice a year, a teacher from one of the two major schools is discovered to have slept with/otherwise molested a student.

That's. About. It.

It's got, I think, the second worst jobless rate in one of the worst economic states in the country, and has essentially, other than the suburbs, become a craphole.

Livermore, California

Home of Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. Supposed to be in the top 5 places that would get hit first in a nuclear war. So that puts me at ease that if the nukes were to ever start flying I would have a pretty quick death. :)

LOL! From Beckley, West Virginia myself. I don't personally have any nice photos of this place but I found some good ones on the internet:

The top pic is of the town itself. The bottom one is a building called Tamarack. It's like a giant artisan shop. Very nice things for sale, but *highly* expensive!

Would have made for an excellent trivia question.

Which of the following states separated from Virginia in the 1800's?

GA
OK
AL
KABTWBVATHV
TX

I live in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Right across the street from Del City actually.

Oklahoma is not so great, but it could be worse I suppose. Most businesses are moving down town to where all the action is going on.

Where as you probably know the Murrah Federal Building was bombed back in '95 I believe...

But we turned that into a nice little memorial. Really awesome to see at night too.

To be honest, most of the time Oklahoma just looks like this...

And if I were to ever shoot a movie that is set in OK that's how I would depict it. Not the down town city area.

We get a lot of "twisters" as well, to the point that it's not even alarming anymore but more exciting that something is actually going on haha. Though it's always funny to see people from out of town freak out when the sirens go off.

tornado_oklahoma_1999.jpg

We had the May 3rd tornado that I believe was really close to being the first F-6 in history. I think....I was pretty young I could just have that in my head for some reason.

Yeah well...that's about it. Not to much to do here. I drink often and smoke a lot of weed.

I think Casey Affleck was in town not to long ago shooting a movie. I also hear we made some kind of deal to start shooting a lot of flicks around here.

Oh and I read somewhere awhile back that if and when they make space trips commerical that one of the few ports would be here in OK.

Oh yeah and we got..

...I guess, I don't really watch very much football. I think we also stole a basketball team from someone???

My brother and I were on a roadtrip last year and we drove through Oklahoma City. We eventually found the bombing memorial. Our GPS kept giving us wrong directions, construction was everywhere and the locals had never been there so they werent much help. I'm sure its a great city but it was damn frustrating at the time. :oldrazz:

I'm in Missouri but I have family there.
Gotcha. Live anywhere near Festus? On said road trip my bro saw the sign on the road and thought it said Fetus. I still give him crap about Fetus, MO.

Wait, the locals didn't know where the memorial was?

Yeah....that doesn't suprise me actually....
