The drugs did inspire them, if you don't think so then you have an altered view on reality. They wrote there songs on drugs, and wrote songs about when they were on drugs.

yes, it could be an interesting angle, but nothing that needs to be too deeply explored in a superman film. it was done rather well in the 'lex luthor: man of steel' comic. but thats a medium where a story like that is more appropriate.

Drugs don't inspire music...someone has to have that talent and expression inside themselves to begin with. Do they influence or alter what comes out? Sure, they could.....just as they alter behavior and decision-making in other aspects of life. Writing songs about being on drugs is about just that...the activity and experience of being on drugs...I assume they're able to write songs about other things as well, and when not on drugs. If they can't, then they're not musicians...they're drug-users who happened to write songs as a side effect of said drug-use. Because if you don't have the ability to write good songs without chemical influences, the drugs won't help that.

So don't equate doing drugs to good music like you did with Townshend....saying he must have been on drugs to come up with something so good....as if it's something that provides inspiration or is essential to his craft. What I said about him being on acid was a joke, but it sounds like you're serious about the above. Songs like those are great because the songwriter is great to begin with....again, drugs may effect how they come out or how someone says something, but the quality of songwriting comes from within the artist. Don't confuse the two....that's a simplistic and naive way of assessing things based on incomplete information/experience. Otherwise, you could give drugs to anyone and they'd be able to write great songs....if they really have so much to do with it, or are responsible for the song being good.
