The Witcher 2

Yeah, and it was a little funny too.

Geralt punching a beast square in the face...was just funny to me.

I've watched about the first 40 minutes of the game (with gameplay) on youtube. Not sure if I want to continue it, but what I've seen has been interesting.
He's the ******* Witcher! That's what he does. :word::woot:

Am I the only one still hoping that the first The Witcher makes it to Consoles eventually ? In fact I was kind of hoping with Crysis 1 going to the Consoles. That would start some more PC only games heading to the Consoles

I've been saying that as well for a while. I expect it to happen eventually.

They were working on porting the first one, but they cancelled it.

Anyway, here's a video comparing the 360 version to the PC version:

It looks surprisingly great on 360. It seems to hover somewhere between medium and high settings on PC. Hopefully the great visuals don't sacrifice performance though.

Cool. I thought it was going to show a depressingly massive difference. That simultaneous split screen where they show 2 full game screens is great for comparison. When they show one after the other or one game screen split with xbox on the left and pc on the right I find it hard to process.

I'm happy that they seemed to alter things for the 360 that would appear to be as good as the 360 can do without trying to be as good as the PC version can.

It's probably just a compromise that needed to be made, but it looks good enough.

I think it looks great. Can not wait to get my hands on this game.

CDP Red posted this for Easter: http://en.thewitcher.com/community/entry/173

They also posted the new "52 and a half" trailer, that they apparently made for fun...I guess, to celebrate how psyched they are about the game being on the 360. I think? I dunno, they seem be passionate about what they do, so them making a trailer just for the hell of it makes sense to me. Cool video.

I really get that from these guys. I hope they get big, it's the kind of company I can follow and support.

Yeah, I'm pretty psyched for it too. They seem to be a developer worth supporting. Great news to hear that the Dark Edition has apparently sold out from all North American retailers. It's a great sign for a game that's going to make it's console debut.

is there any chance of this coming to the PS3?

I think there's a fair chance at some point, especially if this kills it on sales. But it will be a while. These guys don't straight-out-port..they really make it the best possible edition for the platform in question.

GameInformer review score is out. They gave it a 9.5
Excellent news on both. Lets hope word of mouth makes it a huge game.

Have the devs ever said why they ported this to the 360 first? I know its much easier to dev for the 360 so i just assumed that was it.

I believe that's the case. I kinda remember hearing that the PS3 version might have been in development. I think the rumor was that it might still be.

I mean, it's kinda crazy when you consider that the first Witcher game was in development, and supposedly near completion (I believe it was also the Enhanced Edition, but titled The Witcher: Rise of the White Wolf) before that got cancelled because of distribution rights or something.

My understanding is that Rise of the White Wolf was not a port, and that this version of Assassins of Kings isn't either. And you're right, the Playstation 3 is apparently more complicated to build a game for, so they could just be on a longer dev cycle for it.

Or maybe they just didn't have the resources to work on this, the PC version and the PS3. They don't seem to be that large a team, so it could probably be just as simple as that.

Has anyone played the first Witcher? I don't really want to watch the trailer that explains it..would rather find out organically. Just want to know how important it is to play them in order.

I remember reading that they were only going to do one first so they could fully concentrate on it and make it as optimal as possible for that platform. Didn't read about the reason for the 360 preference but it makes sense to go for 360 1st for the reasons you mentioned.

I haven't, but from what I hear it's fine because CDPR does a good enough job of not having this game lean on that one. I am watching a playthrough of it on youtube, and the game just honestly seems entirely too detailed and long to grasp with a summary or trailer. It seems like the type of story that is best experienced firsthand. I have read that gameplay-wise, they feel vastly different. I think I've heard it's because of the combat changes made in the second that makes it so different.

I believe, also, that the "Previously..." and "What is a Witcher?" videos they've released are supposed to be intro videos to the game when you start it up. I've only read that on the Witcher forums, though, so I don't know if that's accurate.

What I found really interesting is that they did a little bit of Mass Effect-lite, by having some decisions from the first Witcher carry over into 2. Not at the same level as Bioware, and I've also hear they there is a canonical order per CDPR, but still. I didn't know anyone other than Bioware was even attempting to do that stuff.

IGN's has been like the lowest iv seen so far at 8.5.

C'mon tuesday!
