As someone who's been devil's advocate for Disney's live-action remakes, even I will say remaking Wizard of Oz is a mistake. Social brownie points or no, there is NOTHING to be gained from this. At least Disney has the excuse of adapting to a different format like live-action and having decent talent to try and expand the stories a bit and address flaws the originals had (do not lie and tell me there weren't any). The original Wizard of Oz was perfect. It's like trying to remake The Godfather or Back to the Future; you just CAN'T!
