The Wolverine The Wolverine Unleashed Extended Edition Blu-Ray: December 3

Viper might have been the weakest single element of the movie for me.

Her whole femme fatal act didn't work for me. Famke Janssen would have pulled that off better.

Yeah in my opinion she actually served no purpose whatsoever. Every scene with her could have been more character development for someone else. I dont get what her goal was or where she came from. Were they trying to emulate Poison Ivy from B+R? If so, why?

I saw the extended version yesterday and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. The hole plot wasn't truly original but Mangold pulled off, with Ross Emery' cinematography, a strong and unique atmosphere to the movie. Every scene was perfectly lightened and colored.

But the most impressive thing in the movie was Logan himself, a man truly haunted by his own past (and no stupid panic attacks here), vulnerable both emotionally and physically but not only.
He's also shown as a beast (amplified by all the imagery of these legendary tales about the Kuzuri) especially in my favorite scene, the duel with Shingen. Honestly I've never seen Logan like this. An unstoppable force of nature, a monster. That scene was fantastic (and I'm not talking about the esthetic because I've no word how to describe it).

There was one huge letdown for me, the design of the Silver Samurai armor. Of course it was menacing and powerful etc, but it looks so uninspired... I was really disappointed.

I don't know. It felt like they needed an overcomplicated explanation for the poison. In the comics it's just some very strong poison that is used against Wolverine, it didn't require some special Chemist or Mutant to provide it. Not only did she feel pointless, even her action scene with Yukio wasn't interesting at all. She is a Mutant with Snake characteristics, yet Mystique fought more Snake like than she did. Yukio versus a bunch of faceless Ninjas would have been more exciting.

You people are making me too excited about the extended cut. Stop it.

Nope, it's longer and also more violent.
Sweet, though I was hoping for the arrow scene to be removed. I figured the ninja fight is an alternate take of that entire scene.

Sorry if its against the rules, you dont have to answer but are there any additional scenes besides the fight and the rain scene?

I don't need to know what they are, just curious how different it will be.

Oh yes, I'd also like to know which scenes (in addition to the ninja brawl in the village) get more footage.

I think Jackman said something originally about how it was much more serious, and although loved the Mangold version, still wanted to see what Darren's would have been like. The first comment isn't surprising, given Aaronofsky's track record.

I remember reading some of what the supposed script was meant to be a while back it included stuff like Yukio having sex with another woman on the train and bizzare sort of stuff like that. Logan was the only mutant in the film also I think.

Thanks to both. I suppose it would have been vastly different. And quite an improvement.

I also saw the Extended Edition too, and I'm not sure if I'm allowed to say, but if I can, I will say what scenes are extended and what I thought about it if I'm allowed?

I think you could share it here, just use spoiler tags and don't post any screencaps. When its officially released, then you could start posting pics :).

How are you all seeing the Extended cut?

As for Viper i liked her up until the end. She was good in small doses but going bald and being there just to have another woman for Yukio to fight was lame

How do you put spoiler tags on posts because I've been posting a lot, but this is the first time I had to put spoiler tags on a post so I can talk about what the extended scenes are.

Select go avanced below. Then click on either the little ninja icon or the one to the left, then write the spoilers between the two brackets

Ok, I have seen it and overall I think the new additions are great. it's not LOTR or Kingdom of Heaven Extended cut/Director's Cut where it REALLY improved over the original, but I think the new scenes just help define the film and make it feel more complete.

What I can remember:

- Some of the WW2 stuff at the start is slightly extended with more shots of people running from the sirens and more of young Shingen talking to Wolverine before the bomb drops and when the the japanese soldiers commit Seppuku, the camera is slightly panned down, so you can see part of the knife enter the soldier rather than the theatrical cut where it is hidden.

- Slightly more violent shots of Wolverine sticking the arrow in the hunters hand and pouring whisky on it

- More dialogue with Yukio in the car on the way to the plane

- Flashback on plane with Wolverine in that prison trench talking to young Shingen and Shingen asks him questions like "how old are you" and Wolverine replies "I've been in many wars... (looks away) too many f****n wars (to himself)

- A little more of Dr Green in Yashida's estate

- More of Shingen talking and arguing with Mariko before that scene where Wolverine sees Shingen slap Mariko in the distance and she runs away and Wolverine saves her in the rain.

- A new scene with Shingen talking to Yashida which is the "you are not the man to lead Yashida" scene from the featurette realeased before the film came out

- The scene from the funeral to the bullet train is the same, but just a couple of new shots here and there, but is more violent with tiny bits of blood splattering on the screen, his claws now shown going through peoples bodies and slashing with blood. I think some of this is the practical claws and and part CGI claws just for the Extended Cut (Don't worry the CGI claws are no where near X-Men Origins bad)

- The scene in the love hotel and Wolverine in the rain is extended with a Yakuza on the balcony firing a gun at Logan in the rain (shot from the first trailer) and Wolverine falls off the balcony onto the streets with the Yakuzas firing tazers at him before Mariko intervenes and throws a knife at all three of them, then takes Logan to the vet. (Bit of a Blade Runner vibe with this extended scene with the way it looks)

- A bit more dialogue between Logan and Mariko in Yashida’s old house she grew up when they are sitting at the table eating

- Some more gory shots of Wolverine cutting his chest open to get the bug out that is stopping his healing factor

- The Wolverine/Shingen fight is slightly extended with some more cool sword moves and slightly more gory with Shingen slashing Wolverine’s neck and it heals, then you see the claws go through Shingen’s neck after “What kind of monster are you?” “The Wolverine”.

- THE BIGGEST CHANGE IS PROBABLY THE NINJA FIGHT WHICH IS ABOUT 5 MINUTES LONG AND IS QUITE LENGTHY. OVERALL THE SEQUENCE IS GREAT AND YOU REALISE WHEN WATCHING THE THEATRICAL CUT HOW MUCH OF THE FIGHT IS ACTUALLY MISSING AND WHY THEY DIDN’T KEEP IT IN.

THERE ARE A COUPLE OF GOOD ONE ON ONE FIGHTS WITH SOME OF THE NINJAS AND WOLVERINE GETTING DRAGGED AWAY IN A NET LIKE AN ANIMAL. SOME ELEMENTS ARE A TAD CHEESY LIKE ONE OF THE NINJAS DOING A SKID ON A BIKE, THEN DOING A WHEELEY, SPINNING THEN HITTING WOLVERINE WITH THE TYRE BUT DOESN’T TAKE AWAY FROM THE SEQUENCE. OVERALL THE SCENE IS NOT “OH MY” GORY, BUT THERE ARE A COUPLE OF BLOODY MOMENTS INVOLVING A SNOW PLOWER.

I THINK THIS SCENE MAKES THE THIRD ACT A LITTLE MORE “TOLERABLE” FOR MOST THE PEOPLE WHO DIDN’T LIKE THE THIRD ACT AND THIS IS A GREAT ACTION SCENE BEFORE THE FINAL ACT WITH SILVER SAMURAI.

- A little more of Viper before the final battle and Viper giving Harada the poison to use for Wolverine when he gets shot with loads of arrows

That seems to be it… I’m sure there’s a couple more things here and there that I missed, but that is what I can remember. The ending of the film is still the same, so it looks like Wolverine getting the suit is just a deleted scene instead.

I don't want to answer any more questions because I don't want to get into trouble or anything like that, so I'll just leave the post like this and make some of the points out for yourself. I will delete this post if asked just in case.

I knew those deleted scenes of Viper (that were shown in the trailers) are gonna be included! YAY!

Did they explain though why she changed her outfit? or did they include a glimpse of her closet? :D

Sadly, not :woot:. But she is woman so she needs a chill out and entertainment between being "a twisted mutant biatch" :). So Viper found relaxation in outfit changes :woot:.

I'm not a woman but I love clothes and I love shopping and there's definitely relaxation in outfit changes!

But I prefer her 1st outfit than her 2nd outfit.
