- Some of the WW2 stuff at the start is slightly extended with more shots of people running from the sirens and more of young Shingen talking to Wolverine before the bomb drops and when the the japanese soldiers commit Seppuku, the camera is slightly panned down, so you can see part of the knife enter the soldier rather than the theatrical cut where it is hidden.
- Slightly more violent shots of Wolverine sticking the arrow in the hunters hand and pouring whisky on it
- More dialogue with Yukio in the car on the way to the plane
- Flashback on plane with Wolverine in that prison trench talking to young Shingen and Shingen asks him questions like "how old are you" and Wolverine replies "I've been in many wars... (looks away) too many f****n wars (to himself)
- A little more of Dr Green in Yashida's estate
- More of Shingen talking and arguing with Mariko before that scene where Wolverine sees Shingen slap Mariko in the distance and she runs away and Wolverine saves her in the rain.
- A new scene with Shingen talking to Yashida which is the "you are not the man to lead Yashida" scene from the featurette realeased before the film came out
- The scene from the funeral to the bullet train is the same, but just a couple of new shots here and there, but is more violent with tiny bits of blood splattering on the screen, his claws now shown going through peoples bodies and slashing with blood. I think some of this is the practical claws and and part CGI claws just for the Extended Cut (Don't worry the CGI claws are no where near X-Men Origins bad)
- The scene in the love hotel and Wolverine in the rain is extended with a Yakuza on the balcony firing a gun at Logan in the rain (shot from the first trailer) and Wolverine falls off the balcony onto the streets with the Yakuzas firing tazers at him before Mariko intervenes and throws a knife at all three of them, then takes Logan to the vet. (Bit of a Blade Runner vibe with this extended scene with the way it looks)
- A bit more dialogue between Logan and Mariko in Yashida’s old house she grew up when they are sitting at the table eating
- Some more gory shots of Wolverine cutting his chest open to get the bug out that is stopping his healing factor
- The Wolverine/Shingen fight is slightly extended with some more cool sword moves and slightly more gory with Shingen slashing Wolverine’s neck and it heals, then you see the claws go through Shingen’s neck after “What kind of monster are you?” “The Wolverine”.
- THE BIGGEST CHANGE IS PROBABLY THE NINJA FIGHT WHICH IS ABOUT 5 MINUTES LONG AND IS QUITE LENGTHY. OVERALL THE SEQUENCE IS GREAT AND YOU REALISE WHEN WATCHING THE THEATRICAL CUT HOW MUCH OF THE FIGHT IS ACTUALLY MISSING AND WHY THEY DIDN’T KEEP IT IN.
THERE ARE A COUPLE OF GOOD ONE ON ONE FIGHTS WITH SOME OF THE NINJAS AND WOLVERINE GETTING DRAGGED AWAY IN A NET LIKE AN ANIMAL. SOME ELEMENTS ARE A TAD CHEESY LIKE ONE OF THE NINJAS DOING A SKID ON A BIKE, THEN DOING A WHEELEY, SPINNING THEN HITTING WOLVERINE WITH THE TYRE BUT DOESN’T TAKE AWAY FROM THE SEQUENCE. OVERALL THE SCENE IS NOT “OH MY” GORY, BUT THERE ARE A COUPLE OF BLOODY MOMENTS INVOLVING A SNOW PLOWER.
I THINK THIS SCENE MAKES THE THIRD ACT A LITTLE MORE “TOLERABLE” FOR MOST THE PEOPLE WHO DIDN’T LIKE THE THIRD ACT AND THIS IS A GREAT ACTION SCENE BEFORE THE FINAL ACT WITH SILVER SAMURAI.
- A little more of Viper before the final battle and Viper giving Harada the poison to use for Wolverine when he gets shot with loads of arrows
