The Wrestling Thread is a Figment of Its Own Imagination

Just read the ring of honor article on wwe.com thanks for posting that. It was a great read.

I was reading the debate about whether WWE are essentially trying to push out the breed of fan that posts here and go all kids, that might be true I guess, although certain characters right now don't suggest that to me, plus I fail to see how it relates to the treatment of Bryan as I think he's clearly a hit with the younger fans.

If they do want rid of us they are certainly working their mojo on me, the whole Bryan fiasco has just killed my interest, I don't really find that much fun in the hijacking stuff, fans at war with a promotion just shows how ridiculously out of touch WWE are as I don't think the crowds in these various arenas are made up of just fans like us, and if a guy can get as over as Bryan and still not get their due then it really is a pointless road, the game is rigged and the fans can't win.

The whole SummerSlam saga highlights the juxtaposition of today's more corporately tinged WWE, which is trying to capture the same success as the late-1990s Attitude Era minus the very irreverence that made it such a juggernaut. The recent real-life departure of disgruntled free spirit CM Punk is unfortunate, said Ross, considering he's what the company needs.

"This whole locker room has a different feel to it, and a different -- they're not as edgy as the Attitude Era locker room," said Ross, also the former vice president of talent relations for WWE. "They're not as competitive. I don't know that they're as hungry. But now, CM Punk is different. [Compared with] today's corporate wrestler, CM Punk is a little bit of a rogue. And I don't mean that in a negative way.

"Over the last two of three years, he's been my favorite WWE performer to watch in the ring, without question. He would've been a huge star in the Attitude Era, without question. Here's the deal: He's a very cerebral guy, who has an old-school spirit, that really cares about every aspect of the business. I think that he needed time off, ample time off, to recharge his batteries. I think he has, for lack of a better term, a major case of burnout. And I think the problem should have been recognized and addressed much earlier than letting it get to a head and him being so frustrated and such a sense of hopelessness that he decided to go home. Walking away from a problem is never a solution. Never. Solve the problem."

Ross says Punk may benefit by taking a "season" off to enjoy his native Chicago sports teams and mend his body and mind. If afterward he can't find common ground with WWE, he may not face the same dearth of alternatives other grapplers have faced.

"At some point, he is going to want to get back into a game. Where that game is, I don't know," said Ross. "Who's gonna be playing in that game, good question. But I would be surprised to see him wrestle anywhere other than WWE on any ongoing basis. But I can certainly see him, if somebody had a new promotion, and they wanted someone with a bright mind and a fresh mind, who understood the product and who could communicate well, which he can do, he might be a great fit in a new promotion: upper management, creative, working with talent. He may be perfect for that.

This shows how WWE miss JR, he may well have cut the Punk situation off at the pass, but you can't expect Triple H to see the signs as all he has known for 15 years is endless pushes and creative victory.

Mark my words....in 20+ years from now, Triple H will have karma come back to bite his huge ass nose off when he has two male wrestlers wooing his daughters as a means towards getting quicker to the top.

Lol.

Off topic, but I was just thinking, you know what would have been an amazing match? Bret Hart vs Antonio Cesaro.

I almost want to be that guy, just to make sure it happens.

And when he realizes what has happened, I can whisper in his ear "KARMAAAAA".

If Bryan doesn't win, it pretty much means you've wasted your time since SummerSlam.

As long as Batista is your reigning champ by the end of the night, the powers that be will think of the night as a success

Hell, if Batista was 20 years younger, he'd probably try it himself.:o

Triple H wasn't even willing to put over Randy Orton at WM 25 when it looked like that would've been a time where Orton had a rocket ship on his back and looked destined for greatness.

Instead they put on a boring main event that stunk up the joint and put to sleep an already tired crowd. People didn't care about that match. The feud itself between Orton and Triple H was a joke. Reminiscent of Jericho vs. Triple H in 2002.

The NFL recently announced that it will begin airing football games on Thursday nights on CBS in 2014, which will create even more competition for TNA during the fall season.

The NFL is looking to draw a wider audience by placing games on broadcaster CBS, which will also be simulcast on the NFL Network. The current plans call for CBS to air eight games during the first-half of the season before NFL Network takes over with eight games during the second-half of the season.

TNA's concern is that CBS's eight-episode run will be from September to the end of October/early November, which is TNA's biggest season of the year centered on Bound for Glory pay-per-view event.

But... but... Elementary! Well, I guess I can wait until November for that.

What does this have to do with wrestling again?

- Extreme Rules will take place in East Rutherford, NJ.
Hmmm....

He still lost though. :csad:
He at least put up a bit of a fight against Del Rio.

As has been reported this week, there was talk backstage at Monday’s RAW that Alberto Del Rio may be leaving WWE once his current contract expires. While there is some concern among WWE officials about Del Rio leaving, it is not and likely will not be treated as a big deal like CM Punk leaving.

The one thing to note here is that WWE officials have never seen Del Rio as someone “in it” for the long-haul but more as someone they could push immediately as a top star but would ultimately retire and return to Mexico.

There have been recent reports that The Undertaker vs. Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania XXX may be changed but no other details were available. Regarding the match, this is something Taker pitched to WWE officials before his match against CM Punk at WrestleMania 29.

Over the course of the last year, the match has only hit one significant speed bump and it happened after Taker had more hip surgery. Word is that Undertaker had grown hesitant of a bout with Lesnar, feeling he might not be able have a good match with Brock given his more physical style.

However, word on Sunday of this week is that the match is back on but could change with this week’s creative meetings.

I have no interest in Taker vs. Brock in 2014. I would rather see both face someone else.

Daniel Bryan has all this mainstream crossover popularity now. The Seattle Seahawks, the Super Bowl winners love him.

I'm just saying, if Daniel Bryan were over six foot and over 230 pounds, we wouldn't even be debating this.

I mean what does a guy have to do?

I mean look at Alberto Del Rio. Was Alberto Del Rio ever a significant draw? Did he bump the needle in terms of ratings or buyrates? No, but they pushed him to the moon. Alberto Del Rio never got over as a face or heel like Bryan did as both. But they still pushed Del Rio hard.

That's why some of this doesn't make sense to me. They'll push some guys really hard in the main event despite them not ever really getting over huge, but downright ignore it when guys do get over and are really nailing it everywhere else.

No disrespect to Sheamus, but he's never been all that exceptional. Is Sheamus draw? Is he moving the merch, the ratings, etc? Did his time as world champion do well with PPV?

I mean, I just don't get what it has to be sometimes.

The only issue I have is that these guys won't be around much longer. Who knows how many matches Taker has left and Brock is on a limited basis. It would benefit the roster and be more interesting to see them go up against someone new. I don't expect Brock to end the streak either (at least not intentionally), so the suspense is gone.

I wonder when Del Rio's contract is set to expire. I like him as a wrestler , but the character is stale. You need people to leave to make room for new stars though. Especially now that there is only one world title.

Bryan seems like a laid back easy going type of person. Del Rio sounds like the type that won't put up with any b.s. and Sheamus is Triple H's work out buddy. They are both deserving of the upper mid card though. Bryan has surpassed both of them in terms of popularity. It's just the political side of things holding him back. Vince loves mainstream attention and Bryans connection to the Seahawks could help things.

Trips was already getting a main event push before he was dating Stephanie. He got huge, and that's what got Vince's motor running.

They're not saying boo. They're saying Boo-tista! :oldrazz:

Tista could use a Smithers-like yes man at his side.

Co-signed. We've seen it before, when they were both in their primes. This will be a step down.

Vince built his company on listening to the fans. Hogan and Warrior were major departures from the no-frills type of wrestlers that got pushed as main eventers in the 70s and early 80s. But Vince only had to hear the pops to know that he could make stars of them even with their limited skill sets. Now it seems like WWE uses itself as the heat-generator instead of heels.

The only way a hhh win over Bryan could even possibly work is if Bryan absolutely destroys him leading to a run in of guys like Nash, Nao and others. Bryan fights them all off and gets caught with a lucky pedigree

But even then it's going to be stretch.

If Daniel Bryan got a lead role in a big movie or was dating some Hollywood A-Lister Vince would but the title on him tomorrow.
