The feeling backstage after the Impact taping was pretty much a positive one. A few workers for the company told me that they felt more excited about the company after the taping than they had in a long time and that morale tonight was up. One person described it to me as "being on a show with consequence" as opposed to taping something that would air a few weeks later. There was a feeling that the stories the company is putting on are stronger and a hope that they can provide something different from WWE's weekly shows.

The backstage scene was a lot more crazed between the live production cues and all the streaming segments that were running online.

The entire locker room, watching on monitors backstage, popped huge when Joey Ryan challenged Taz and there were a few people shocked at how well Taz handled that, considering his temper. There was some debate among wrestlers as to whether the Judge's decision was pre-planned but no one saw Ryan stepping up to Taz like that and there was legitimate surprise there. The Gutcheck deliberations were filmed yesterday in Orlando.

Brooke Hogan got along with everyone backstage, although she always has in her visits previously. She didn't do anything to carry herself in a way that would have given people ammunition to complain about her. Hogan's involvement was a Dixie Carter idea, not something that Hulk Hogan or Eric Bischoff suggested or pushed.

The TNA lawsuit vs. WWE was discussed a lot by workers, specifically the anger towards Brian Wittenstein (who is also being sued) for passing on their information.

Dixie Carter's Hall of Fame announcement wasn't told to the locker room ahead of time.

Former WWE star Cliff "Domino" Compton worked a dark match before the live broadcast, putting over Crimson in a short bout.

Martin from the last season of Tough Enough was in attendance visiting.
The Christopher Daniels "baby birds" comment was a reference to something comedian Daniel Tosh (Tosh.0), who is a big wrestling fan, has said in the past.

Since a few people have asked this, Jeff and Karen Jarrett were not backstage or in Orlando.

TNA taped ODB defeating Angelina Love for Xplosion at tonight's taping.

Tara and Mickie James were backstage but were not used.

It wasn't a bad show except for the stupid AJ/Dixie/Daniels/Kaz stuff at the end.

The show also needed some Knockouts action. Even a 6 KO tag at some point after Brooke Hogans segment would have been nice.

So are the gutcheck things part shoot or worked shoot? I was wondering that when that kid got in Taz's face.

They should use Martin on a gutcheck. They could do a lot worse than him. I felt bad that he didn't make it to the end and win TE. I think he had a real shot. WWE should keep an eye on him too.

Apparently there was suppose to be a Knockout segment but they did not have time for it and it was cut.

There's no telling if they Gutcheck decisions are on the fly or preplanned. I don't think it has been confirmed either way yet, but the talking segments on Impact are said to be done on the fly now. The idea is for it to be something of an American Idol for wrestling. So I imagine it is treated as a work, but the tryouts and decisions are a shoot in how they decide who gets signed.

Ryan seems to be a hot topic on twitter and his stepping up to Taz was certainly on the fly. It was a fun segment when they started jawing back and forth.

Dammit, Joey Ryan would get me watching TNA more regularly.

I would not be surprised to see him brought in. From what I've read, he is suppose to be pretty good and has received a lot praise for his work on the indy scene. His segment on Impact tonight also seems to be getting a lot of buzz from fans so you never know.

I'd take his face off with Taz tonight and roll with it. Have Ryan start appearing in the crowd or something, calling out Taz and TNA.

That was a solid segment. I'm glad that they added Taz to Gutcheck, as he was awesome on Tough Enough. His back and forth with Ryan was just great, and Ryan really played up the cockiness. The funny thing about that segment was they still said no when there were Ryan chants, and that Taz didn't change his mind when Ryan stood up to him.

A suggestion for the next thread title...

The Wrestling Thread Won It's Olympic Gold Medal With A Broken Freakin' Neck!

Kurt Angle Won His Olympic Gold Medal With A Broken Freakin' Wrestling Thread!

And Superark, not a bad idea. I was thinking the same thing, but doing so so early in the idea of the Gutcheck. Would ruin any idea that it isn't all worked that way, to me.

I really haven't seen much of Silva to impress me over someone like Joey Ryan, who has had a lot of great matches in the past.

Paul Heyman went on a rant on his Twitter account, telling the new generation of talent to "Step Up," "Stand Up" and "Get Noticed." Check out a portion of the rant below; the full rant is on his Twitter (https://***********/HeymanHustle):

"I walk into the offices of #Looking4Larry and there's a bunch of #ECW pics sent to me by George Tahinos (who is a phenomenal photographer) . I guess in honor of the #ECW DVD / Blu-Ray coming out next week and NO, I can't express myself in 140 characters or less and I couldn't help staring at this pic of me and Bill Alphonso from 1995 ... http://pic.***********/67xt8khB and I'm looking at that pic and wondering "how f***in' long was my hair back then?" #HolySh** And then I immediately thought, "Who would follow THAT rebel leader?

I look at some of these pics, and I realize how blessed I was in my career. Some guys have to wait forever for a lucky break. I managed @AustinIdolLive and Tommy Rich at the age of 21. Also The Orig Midnights, which I got to do on @ESPN. Got to debut in WCW on TBS at 23 years old. http://pic.***********/0zAOn40l So I was @JRsBBQ color commentator at 23 years old. NO ONE IS GIVEN THAT OPPORTUNITY IN TODAY'S ENVIRONMENT!

I will admit, with all modesty, I #Hustled my ass off, and GOT MYSELF the opportunity with ambition, politics, and pure assertiveness. Even "down periods" would give me the chance 2 work w/ people like Mean Mark. U know him as "The Undertaker" @WWE http://pic.***********/zC1uUZnH

At 26, I managed @SteveAustinBSR, Rick Rude,Arn,Eaton, Zbyszko ... The Dangerous Alliance (didn't forget @Madusa_Rocks) http://pic.***********/j5vvMfgU I'm working with these legends, these giants of the industry, these absolute top guys in my 20s In today's system, most super talented people spend a great portion of their 20's just trying to make it onto the main roster and yes, that has to change.

I got to take over the creative of #ECW a week after my 28th birthday http://pic.***********/bihGY6Kp. By the time I became @JRsBBQ commentator on @WWE #Raw in 2001, I was 35 years old. STILL a "kid" but I was already a veteran with decades in the business, and yet a 35 year old today would just be getting that chance and working with @JRsBBQ on #RAW allowed me to commentate Wmania 17 and @SteveAustinBSR vs @TheRock.

By the time I worked with Brock Lesnar, which has become my best known managerial role, I was 36 years old. I look at some of these pics and videos #HustleTweeters send me, and I realize what an amazingly blessed career I've had.

I've had more lucky breaks, more open doors, more perfect-storm-timing-opportunities than anyone else I've known. These pics don't just remind me of "accomplishments," they remind me of what a lucky bastard I've been to be able to ...work with these magnificent people, and play these roles, under these various circumstances. I've hit the lottery so many times, it's easy to just "expect" the next opportunity, or get a sense of entitlement. But I've never felt entitled. Always blessed. Privileged. Lucky as all Hell. And yet, I know how much hard work goes into it, and how you have to SCORE with your opportunities.

The next generation in this (or any other business) doesn't just need to "Step Up," they need to "Stand Up" and "Get Noticed!" Think it was easy for @CMpunk? Think it was easy for @WWEDanielBryan? They had to scratch and claw and fight for every ...inch of turf they could pry away from the previous generation, who made them f**kin' earn it!!!

It's not about backstabbing. It's not about kissing ass. It's not about pulling a hot stunt and getting momentary publicity. It's about creating your own opportunity (like @SteveAustinBSR did with "Stone Cold") and working harder than every1 else looking for the big break, the next chance, the golden opportunity.

This isn't a pep talk. It's the lay of the land as I see it in today's sports entertainment industry. I would have written a blog, but who knows if anyone will click on the link? And while this may be a "stream of consciousness" diatribe, it's a message to those who may be getting frustrated a message to those who may be wondering "will I ever get that chance? that break? that opportunity?" DON'T WAIT FOR IT TO COME TO YOU! RELY ON YOURSELF!!! Do you think @SteveAustinBSR relied on anyone? Did HHH? Did @TheRock? Did Hulk Hogan? Did @CMpunk?

With great humility, I ask you, did I? F**K NO. If there was no opportunity, I created my own, pushed my way in, manipulated the circumstances to beg, borrow, plead, blackmail, bribe, cajole, threaten, ******** and/or manufacture. All I wanted was a mic in my hand and a time frame in which I had to deliver my message. I knew I would score.

I've seen it in this business for ages. I saw @ShawnMichaels go from tag team wrestler to greatest all around in-ring performer ever. Think it was easy for him? I remember when Shawn and Marty were blackballed in the business, and could only work in Ala-f**kin-bama. Think it didn't take @ShawnMichaels everything "and then some" to break out of The Rockers and get a chance as "HBK"? AMBITION. ASSERTIVENESS and the ABILITY TO BACK IT UP is what it takes to create the next generation of main eventers.

And it's time for the next group of superstars to stake their claim and create their own generation for others to follow. Period. Excla-f**kin-mation point. The lecture is over. Pontification has ended. Hope I've been of help 2 ANYONE who follows this acct and maybe even to someone who doesn't!

We now return you to our regularly scheduled nonsense...."

I love Heyman. As for future main eventers Dolph, and Cody are on the cusp. With Jericho and Orton out I could see them in those spots. And if they hadn't stalled his momentum who knows what could have happened with Ryder. And in FCW I have high hopes for Rollins, and Bo Rotundo Dallas (who when I saw him live just seemed to have "it") And of course we cant forget Ambrose.

still I'm sure Ziggler will be the one to truly step up as we have already heard that he is not afraid to go off script and do his own thing

YES! I approve of that title!

Mike Johnson of PWInsider.com was speculating if the segment with Joey Ryan and Taz wasn't part of a introduction to bring him into the company and the storyline. I hope so. The guy did great last night when he stood up to Taz and he has charisma. I wanna see more of him and if he's as good as he is touted to be. He is said to be well liked by many in the company.

Joey Ryan wrote the following on his Twitter account:

"What a joke. @IMPACTWRESTLING is pathetic. I'm not good enough for your company? C'mon @TNADixie really? You make me laugh! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Don't bring me in just for your NO agenda. It's not my fault that Flair went into business for himself so why am I being punished?! Pritchard, @TheRealAlSnow & @OfficialTaz know that a NO is ridiculous. They know I'm money. I dare Tazz to say something to my face now. Somebody tell Johnny Ace he can reach me at [email protected] - I know he's not stupid enough to turn down money."

Going through some of my pics, not sure if I ever shared this one here.

Oh and as for thread titles I'd still like to see The Wrestling Thread is Sorry Bout Your Damn Luck!

The Wrestling Thread actually watched Impact this week!

RAW Rating Causes Panic, Backstage News on Orton, Possible Title Plans

By Marc Middleton on 06/01/2012

- While Randy Orton's suspension was the big news on Wednesday, what had everyone in a panic at WWE headquarters was the low 2.7 RAW Supershow rating.

- Speaking of Orton, the WWE writing team didn't find out about his suspension until it was announced online. They were working on an Orton vs. Dolph Ziggler feud when the suspension came down.

No word yet on when Orton failed a Wellness test but it appears some in the company knew about it days before. Speculation is that John Cena was added to SmackDown tapings because they knew Orton was on his way out for 60 days. At the same time, WWE booked Orton strong on Monday night as he did an in-ring segment with The Miz and laid him out.

- The idea of merging the Intercontinental Title and the United States Title was being worked on a few weeks back. Sources say the WWE Title and the World Heavyweight Title won't be merged because WWE needs one major title on each of the RAW and SmackDown tours.

I thought Impact was solid, Sting is only able to do very basic matches these days and I am not a fan of the no sell on the chops, but it served it's purpose in getting the show off to an upbeat start, I just hope he does the right thing and puts Roode over clean at Slammiversary.

Bully Ray is great at what he does but this angle with Abyss sucks.

Aries vs Sabin was good, I'd personally like to see a rematch on the PPV with these two given 15 minutes.

The Brooke Hogan segment was really awkward, Dixie came off like she was begging the fans to give Brooke a chance, and Tenay listing her "accomplishments" was cringe worthy. The big problem was that they should have had something for her to announce regarding the Knockouts title at the PPV, instead of just standing their saying thanks over and over.

Hardy vs Devon was ok but they really need to get Devon a new rival for the belt as the Robbies thing has gone on forever.

I'm guessing the gut check thing is a total work as there's no way Joey Ryan got no while Silva got yes, I mean neither guy will ever be a top guy but Ryan's 70's porn star gimmick and mic skills would make him a solid addition to the X division where as Silva is generic indie guy 567567576.

The video on Storm was the best thing on the show IMO, this slow build to his rematch with Roode is great booking and this segment made him into a person you can root for and get behind, a human being as opposed to a cool guy with a great go home line.

Styles vs Daniels I guess was a fitting main event given this was a historic Impact in theory, and the match was ok although Daniels always feels mechanical to me. The ending with the Dixie stuff was stupid and contrived as it's obvious it's some surprise for Serge's birthday or something, even if AJ pulling Dixie into the hotel room is not easily written away.

Personally I'd have ended the show on something less WWE-ish in order to show the less soap opera style of TNA.

So this is the Beth Edge was talking about at the HOF. Damn some of these divas get around. Pretty soon Edge and Punk are going to have a lot of notes to compare. Happy for them though.

Like I always say thats why you won't see the world titles merged anytime soon.

Though I'd rather keep the midcard titles separate. Makes even less sense to merge them than the World titles. Guess the IC title is going to be the workhorse title again with that champion appearing heavily on both shows. But if they do that they HAVE to start booking the midcard well or it'll all be pointless.

I suddenly got light headed
