The Wrestling Thread...NINJA PLEASE! - Part 31

I think Eric Bischoff either stays in TNA or leaves wrestling for good, afterall he does run a TV production company with Jason Hervey, who you may know as either the older brother from the Wonder Years or as Hogan's brother in No Holds Barred.

BTW, does it surprise anybody that the WWE hasn't remade No Holds Barred yet with John Cena and Ezekiel Jackson? With all of the remakes in Hollywood, I would think that the WWE would be in on the "let's remake a movie because everyone else in Hollywood is doing it" game.

actually his brother was played by Mark Pellegrino.....Jacob from Lost, Lucifer from Supernatural

Hogan will move all those surplus Hulkamania shirts they have lying around....and you know the unwashed masses will welcome back

they always do

If by move you mean discount them for the people who would rather have a Rock shirt yeah. All except for those Johnny Cenafans who only know Hogan as that leathery old guy who shuffles around the ring like their great granddads do at the nursing home.

yup....and all those same people that decry HHH "holding down" everyone else pray at the red and yellow altar of Hulk Hogan

I'm certainly not one of those people. As far as I'm concerned Hogan was The Noses Sith master.

Whatever though. A remake needs to be done, dammit!

Who would you cast in the remake? John Cena would be Rip and Zeke Jackson would be Zeus.

And somehow it would turn out to be even more awful.

I'm shocked that WWE didn't do a Rocky/Drago type of thing with Cena and Kozlov...cause WWE is dumb like that sometimes.

Regarding WWE: The Network

Let's face it...the day will be filled with old footage from the vaults. Then, as much as I hate to think about it...you'll probably have shows like Thunder In Paradise...maybe even A Team reruns...and then movies like They Live, The Princess Bride and Hogan and Rocks movies.

As far as prime time goes, WWE has their films they can trot out. Also, you have NXT and Superstars...and I would LOVE to see a weekly Legends of Wrestling Roundtable show. I wouldn't mind seeing the Florida developmental show on the network as well.

Eventually, they will HAVE to move away from wrestling in prime time some...and I would hope that they would try to stay in the "guy" territory. I can see them trying (though I wouldnt want) a new American Gladiators series. I could see them developing a cop show for Stone Cold.

One area I think could be HUGE for them is Saturday mornings. They could have a Rey Mysterio cartoon where he is sort of a superhero...and feature weekly villains like Papa Shango, Kane, The Blue Meanie etc...maybe even have guest appearances from other superheroes like Ultimate Warrior. This is a way to keep the wrestlers in the public eye potentially forever, so some would still have value after their bodies break down.

In some way they could keep Undertaker around...whether in a cartoon or in a host type role for a supernatural or horror based series.

The Divas could really be put to some use here, segueing the bikini model types out of the ring and into hosting duties for shows.

If they could somehow work out a deal to show NFL or even college football games then that would be a big help, but I dont see that happening.

All WWE Studios needs to do is be like all of the other major studios out there. They are behind in the remake game big time.

They also need to change the name of the film studio and stop name dropping the wrestlers who appear in them as if that'll bring in a bigger audience.

If I see a movie is starring Randy Orton, HHH, or Big Show that's as much of a red flag as "Directed by M. Night Shaymalyn".

Totally TOTALLY agree with you on that. As soon as most people see "from WWE studios." I'm pretty sure they lose interest. I know I do.

I read where WWE recently purchased the rights to distribute an apparently pretty good film made outside of their studio. If they leave the WWE name on it they may as well just admit to themselves that they threw away a *****load of money.

They should change the name to Titan Studios or Colosseum Studios or something.

Or they could just put Stone Cold and/or The Rock in every movie.

At this point they need Rock more than he needs them so...that ain't gonna happen.

As for Austin...his last WWE movie didn't do so hot and he wants to make an actual career out of making movies so thats a tough sell too.

Is the WWE taking a huge risk with their own network?

I think so. It could easily go either way IMO.

Can't turn out much worse than the XFL.

:funny:

The one advantage here is that Vince is dealing with something he knows something about: wrestling

But he still doesn't know much about starting a network or hiring someone to run it. The WWE film studio isn't exactly setting the world on fire.

So yeah...they got quite a few hurdles to jump with this.

The WWE Network will probably be like the NFL Network in that the run the same program for several hours in a row.

I'd say the failing of that movie wasn't his fault though. WWE clearly doesn't have a good eye for writers. It's no coincidence that Austin has shown WAY more promise in films away from WWE.

I mean think about it, somebody green-lit Knucklehead. Someone saw that script and thought it was either good or would make money. Same goes for the chaperon.

Is this the film?

WWE Studios announced today that the company has purchased the distributions rights to action-thriller The Day:

WWE Studios announced today it has acquired all US distribution rights to the Toronto International Film Festival cult hit The Day, Doug Aarniokoskis visceral action thriller. The film screened to sold-out crowds in the Midnight Madness section of the Festival. WWE will use its television, digital/social media and print assets, which reach more than 20 million people domestically each week, to help maximize the release of film.

"The Day is a renegade thrill-ride that will not disappoint audiences," said newly named WWE Studios President, Michael Luisi. "We went to Toronto looking for films to showcase and expand the WWE Studios brand and found exactly that with Doug's exceptional film," added Luisi.

"The Day has been a wild ride from start to finish and we are very excited that we have found the right home to get the film out to the fans in a big way. We could not be happier to be in business with WWE Studios," said director Aarniokoski.

Aarniokoski is currently directing the Lionsgate film Nurse 3-D. The Day is a nightmarish 24 hour look into the lives of a band of survivors fighting to stay alive in a post-apocalyptic world.

The Day stars Shawn Ashmore (X-Men Trilogy), Ashley Bell (The Last Exorcism), Michael Eklund (Watchmen, 88 Minutes), Cory Hardrict (Battle Los Angeles, Gran Torino), Dominic Monaghan (Lost, Lord of the Rings trilogy), and Shannyn Sossamon (A Knghts Tale, Road to Nowhere). The film features music by Rock Mafia.

The film was written by Luke Passmore and produced by Guy A. Danella. Doug Aarniokoski, Michael Finley, Tim James, Antonina Armato and Ross M. Dinerstein served as executive producers.

Kevin Iwashina of Preferred Content handled the sale to WWE Studios. Luisi and VP of Business and Legal Affairs, Bradley Buchanan, negotiated on behalf of WWE Studios, which beat out a number of other bidders for the film.

The official WWE website confirmed Friday evening that The Rock will be returning to the squared circle at the Survivor Series on November 20. He will be participating in a Traditional 5-on-5 Tag Team Match at the show.

Their statement reads: "WWE sources have confirmed that The Rock and John Cena will be a part of a Traditional 5-on-5 Survivor Series Tag Team Match."

Regarding their partners at the event, F4WOnline.com reports that they will be teaming up with CM Punk and Sheamus against a team consisting of Alberto Del Rio, The Miz and R-Truth.

The Rock will also return to Raw before Survivor Series and appear on a few shows.

Another ROH Name in FCW
In addition to former Ring of Honor talent Claudio Castagnoli being added to the FCW roster under the ring name of Antonio Cesaro, several readers have sent in word that the roster section of the FCW site has added Corey Graves, who formerly competed in Ring of Honor as Sterling James Keenan.

More on Angle's TNA Status
During a recent interview conducted for "Fight Week," which you can check out if you CLICK HERE, TNA Champion Kurt Angle revealed that he had signed a new, 3 year deal with TNA. The Wrestling Observer has added that while Angle has said many times that he opted not to return to WWE and instead stick with TNA, WWE in fact did not offer Angle a deal.

As we previously reported, the match between Sting and Ric Flair which aired this past week on Impact Wrestling, was said to be quite a mess, with several botches and missed spots.

The Wrestling Observer is reporting that Ric Flair legitimately suffered an injury to his left arm during the bout, but it has yet to be revealed how serious the injury is.

It's also being reported that the match was heavily edited before it aired on television this past Thursday night.

That's kind of sad. WWE must consider Angle a liability . There goes my last hope of seeing him perform on the grandest stage of them all.

What happened to Chavo? He left to become a bigger star , there must of been some type of offer for him to think that way.

Also I'm hoping Steamboat will be able to add to the legacy. Not as Arther Yacht though , lol.

I'd like to see Trish Stratus (and maybe Amy "Lita" Dumas) do a comedy sketch show for the channel.

I was hoping Punk wouldn't be part of this. I'll guess at the 5th member being John Morrison. The other two on the heel team could well be Triple H and Nash.

yea..with all the fake tan and silicone...if thats your definition of "beauty"

But the Yacht Club T-Shirts would be a seller, alongside the Broski stuff.
