The Wrestling Thread Wasn't Actually Drafted...It Just Showed Up! - Part 241

Tye should be a staple of the IC title scene. He'd make a great IC champion/challenger.

AJ is the face of Smackdown so they don't have to make him that. As far as Tye goes, he's probably going to have a similar career to Dolph Ziggler, except I think he's more of a natural babyface. He can talk okay, but he's not amazing.

Thanks Wheels. And The Future. Dolph had a pretty good career, so not bad comparison.

If Tye's career ends up like Ziggler's career, his run currently will be more successful then when he was Gavin Spears in ECW. In fact, he's already more successful than when he was Gavin Spears.

Oh yeah. He's going to be a mainstay in the midcard at the very least and have a nice run in WWE.

Any predictions on the WWE 2K18 legend? I think it'll be Hulk Hogan. I had thought that it was going to be Kurt Angle, but the announcement of his induction to this year's WWE Hall of Fame eliminated him from being the 2K18 legend. Angle will be in the game, there's no doubt about it, but I had thought he was going to be the 2K18 legend.

Admittedly, I want to hear his WWE theme again on WWE programming.

Styles to RAW would be a huge mistake. Ambrose probably could carry the show if they take the training wheels off his character, but Styles is the face of the franchise. He'd be buried and wasted on RAW.

The New Day to Smackdown works for me now that the Hardys are on RAW. Though, this would be the perfect time to elevate Big E to IC or even HW title contention while Woods/Kingston battle for the tag straps. Not to break up the "band", but diversify their activities to utilize them more. I'm surprised they haven't had Xavier Woods battling for the CW championship yet. He, along with Aries and Neville, could help bring some more relevance to that division. I mean, the New Day are probably the most consistently over act in the WWE.

Charlotte needs to stay on RAW. Vince seems determined to make her a 14-time champ in the span of 2 years, so he can keep her there and not ruin Smackdown's Women Division. Bring Sasha over so she can tear the roof down with Bliss, Lynch, James, Naomi and Nataliya.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that former partner Aiden English is scheduled to receive a push coming out of the breakup of The Vaudevillains.

To elaborate on my previous point, I think they should push 205 Live even further by adding a CW tag title. Have Xavier Woods and Kalisto work on that division as part of the "headliners" and use the Tag belts to help get other "less over" talents going.

I'm down with that. He can even keep the same gimmick, just modify it a bit.

To speak further about AJ Styles as the face of Smackdown, Shane vs AJ proved to be the biggest, most over Smackdown match at WrestleMania and he's the most over guy on the brand. WWE can stick this guy outside the main events, and he's still going to be the guy everyone is talking about, he and Shane made the WWE title match look like a piss break match. He's the man. They can try to put him in a smaller role at some point on RAW, but whatever he's doing is the real main event 9 times out of 10 and there's not a damn thing card placement is going to do about it. Top AJ on a PPV Roman or even Seth or Balor. I dare you.

I think it's more likely Alexa moves than AJ, and I happen to like Alexa. I'd rather Sasha go to Smackdown than Charlotte.

some good news and bad news

On the plus side, Jonathan Gresham has signed an exclusive deal with ROH. He had ready been appearing on ROH shows for over a year, but as a freelancer.

In awful news, former 2X TNA X-Divison Champion DJZ had a serious injury at a Crash Lucha Libre show last night. Apparently he ruptured his colon and is having major surgery today. Hopefully he recovers fully and quickly.

For all the great writing on the part of Creative on SD, I am not really sure the 'get' Ambrose. His relative fall from grace has coincided with a move to SD where, I feel he has become more 'Carefree Hobo' rather than 'Lunatic Fringe'.
He should be the one trying to crush Corbin with a forklift, not be on the receiving end. I mean, Randy was face after committing arson, I'm sure attempt at manslaughter will get a face pop as well.
Unfortunately, he is IC Champion and while that reportedly doesn't stop him from getting traded, I don't see Owens moving to SD in the midst of an active storyline which has very good heat.

I'm almost a 100% sure Alexa's moving to RAW. One of Sasha or Charlotte is probably moving and I wouldn't mind either TBH. For all the good booking the SD Women's Division has had (at least until the lead up to WM, where it fell through) it does feel light on 'heavyweights' if you know what I mean.

Finally the AJ to RAW rumours have been persisting for too long to not have some substance behind it. I'd much rather Seth than Roman go the other way if that happens.

I just saw that he was Stan who got Super Kicked by HBK. lol.

So Naomi made history at Mania by becoming the first African American woman to win a title at WM.

Can Tye Dillinger talk? I saw how over he was on SD. He seems like a quality mid card face. I think he needs a better finish though. Fine for now, but hey if Ambrose can have a ddt as a finisher why not. What do you guys think is Tye's ceiling? Is he a career mid card guy or is he good enough to move up to that upper card occasional main event slot? Could the Ten become the new Yes chant?
Dillinger could be a solid midcard face. I see him as a future IC Champ.

Dillinger is a better talker when his a heel. He is an ok talker as a face.
Regarding the "Superstar Shakeup" set for next week's WWE RAW, Dave Meltzer reported in the latest edition of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the key moves appear to be AJ Styles to RAW and The New Day to SmackDown. There had been talk of moving Roman Reigns to SmackDown but word this week is that Reigns is staying on Monday nights.

The New Day to SmackDown makes sense as the SmackDown tag team division has needed a boost for some time. No word yet on what top RAW Superstar might jump to SmackDown with AJ coming to RAW but SmackDown did get the biggest post-WrestleMania 33 call-up in Shinsuke Nakamura. Meltzer also speculated that Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss could switch brands based on recent booking.
The New Day to SmackDown sounds like a good idea. It is probably the only way to keep them from going stale as they will have new tag teams to face and a title they have yet to win.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that former partner Aiden English is scheduled to receive a push coming out of the breakup of The Vaudevillains.
Aiden English could be a good midcard heel addition. It is a shame the WWE released Sandow as I believe English and Sandow would of made a good tag team.

I'm bummed about the Mauro Ranallo/JBL situation. I can see how Mauro's frequent retweeting of positive comments and his thanking people for the observer award could rub people in the company the wrong way, but I wish stuff like this would be handled better than the alleged, but seemingly likely bullying by JBL. I don't know what all went down, all I know is I like Mauro's work a great deal and I'm going to miss him in WWE. He had a unique feel about him that few guys have as play by play announcers.
. Everyone now just has nothing to them really. It's like they are coached not to be memorable or create iconic sound bites. The sports and entertainment world needa more John Madden, Howard Cosell, Harry Caray Mike Goldberg, Gorilla Monsoon, Vince McMahon, and Jim Ross'. We need less guys who bleed in to one another and don't make an impression. There's no difference between Tom Philips and any of the other guys besides Ranallo that have called Smackdown in recent years. They're all the same guy basically.

If Ranallo doesn't return, that would piss me off. That man is the best commentator the WWE has ever had since Jim Ross. The man gives an authenticity to Smackdown and wrestling in general.

If the rumors of JBL being a cause of Ranallo's recent issues, then I'm not surprised. JBL has always been a thug. I wish Haitch would say something to him.

Smoke DZA did his traditional Wrestlemania Ringside V mixtape drop. Smoke raps over rappers themes and drops various wrestling references.

That's an interesting point in general. Rollins was given the fortune of starting as a heel on the main roster and it did him the world of good. I'd like to see the likes of Reigns and Balor given a similar chance because the long term benefits are potentially out of this world.
