The Wrestling Thread's Never Been So Disgusted With a PPV... - Part 139

I wonder what would happen to the Main Event Scene if Batista, by some dumb luck, sustained a injury that would side line him until After WM?lol

WWE would probably plug Warrior into the main event, which he would win, then he'd forfeit the title on RAW the next night. WWE would book a month-long tournament for the title, which would end with Orton vs. HHH, who would swear that he isn't going to lay down for Orton, because he feels "rejuvenated". Then we get a redux of the Finger poke of Doom, which Orton wins because that's "best for business".

The ironic thing is that those 3 guys are largely responsible for the downward spiral in popularity that started 10 years ago. Fans didn't buy them as successors to Angle, Benoit, and Guerrero, and the ratings began to plummet. Yet, despite having two guys who are almost universally loved in Punk and Bryan, WWE is heading into yet another WM relying on the guys who fans didn't want as main eventers a decade ago.

I loved these guys but Angle, Benoit, and Guerrero weren't the top headlining stars that were replaced. They were the utility guys.

The audience wanted Cena, the issue he was pushed too soon. But more importantly, they changed his personality after getting him to the mountain. So the main element that the crowd loved about the guy was taken away. Doctor of Thuganomics was changed into The Marine.

Randy Orton's push IMO was ruined because they turned him face when he should've been a heel and his feud with Triple H in which he didn't come out on top.

I didn't pay attention to Batista much, so I can't say what happened there. It didn't look like nothing was wrong since the crowd was behind him.

The biggest problem of the last decade has been the booking and ignoring other stars fans wanted to see. The crowd wanted Cena and Batista, but times have changed and someone new has been chosen.

Jeff Hardy was chosen, but his personal issues hampered his push, as well as his decision to leave.

CM Punk has been hampered by politics and booking. No excuse for not giving him the ball after the Pipebomb promo that received mainstream attention.

Daniel Bryan, pretty much what I said about CM Punk. Except it's even worse as Bryan's popularity has surpassed Bryan and his "Yes" chant has been seen in the mainstream. This is clearly who the crowd wants and WWE is flat out ignoring it. It's one thing to say the guy's only popular among smarks. But Bryan has transcended the favor smarks and the general public loves him.

I'm considering waiting until after Wrestlemania to get the WWE Network, depending on how the next few weeks ago. The only things that interest me are CM Punk vs Authority, and seeing how WWE reacts to the crowd and if they really are going with Batista/Orton even though it's clear the crowd doesn't want it. That's not the vibe you want headed into Wrestlemania.

Between TNA seemingly circling the drain and this, it's rough out here for a wrestling fan.

.

Benoit and Guerrero were forerunners to Bryan. The fans had been wanting them in the ME for a long time, WWE gave the fans a brief taste, then moved on.

Did you just call Angle a "utility" guy? Sorry, I can't disagree more with that statement. It's a shame for WWE that he moved on (although his substance abuse might have been an issue) because he's far and away the most complete talent that has debuted in WWE in the last 15 years. Cena, Batista, Orton, and HHH together aren't worth one Kurt Angle. I wouldn't even put Bryan in Angle's class.

On the other hand, tonight's pay per view definitely sold me on the idea that Roman Reigns can/will be a great main event player if he's handled properly. He has the presence, charisma, and skills to make it...course he could work on his mic skills, but at least they're not cringe-worthy.lol

I finally saw the PPV myself and I am surprised on having actually heard all of the boos that went on.

First time that I've seen the Fans really voice for their disappointment in a long while.

I'm not a 'McMahon apologist'; I'm someone who watches wrestling for the sheer enjoyment of what it offers as a television program and as a form of 'unscripted' entertainment.

There are much better ways to express displeasure with the product being offered than to **** on people who don't deserve to get shat on, and that's what is happening any time a crowd decides it wants to act like a bunch of spoiled toddlers whose parents told them they can't have candy.

This is dumb. They are paying customers; they can do whatever they like short of throwing things at the superstars. They have every right to be mad if they're not getting what they paid to see, and for a lot of people they're not getting from the product what they want, how else would you suggest that they express that?

The WWE deserves to get dumped on, and dumped on, and dumped on for this crap that they're shovel-ling their loyal fans, many of whom will still force themselves to watch patiently in the hopes that things will change. The live crowd dumping on them is the ONLY way to deliver the message to the back that people aren't happy.

Exactly. It's a total immerse entertainment experience based on the crowd. It's quite simple.

I really think the cheering for Daniel isn't just for him but for every new talent backstage.

Pretty much evidenced when they chanted for Roman Reigns.

And I no longer buy that they believe Dolph Ziggler doesn't draw money; Ziggler's problem is he doesn't fit Vince's mold, he isn't a legend from the past, he isn't a movie star.

WWE's booking is so absurd right now. The main event scene hasn't changed in basically a decade.

I feel bad for Roman Reigns too. This could've been his moment as well at RR.
As I'd said in an earlier post, Reigns came out of the Rumble elevated from where he was. They can easily play off his elimination as a "rookie" mistake versus a season veteran. His performance sold the crowd on him and really put him over. Getting eliminated by the guy we ALL knew was winning did nothing to slow his momentum. Plus, it set up the Shield break-up! It will be interesting to see how that plays out tonight. I'm calling it now, Reigns will be in the Elimination Chamber! In fact, I'll call the Chamber as being Orton vs. Reigns vs. Cena vs. Bryan vs. Wyatt vs. Batista. Mark those words!

Went to sleep annoyed&pissed but now that I woke up and thought about things am okay now,I mean am still pissed at Vince and think what he did to Bryan was a huge rotten insult to him and the wwe universe plus other dumb booking decisions..However I may not quit the product as I talked about last night cause am still interested in some things.

-I'm loving Roman Reign's push and am very curious on what happens now with shield after they turned on each other during the rumble

-Liking NAO having one more tag run and being tag champions

-Not interested in Bryan vs Sheamus or Bray vs Cena at Mania but am curious how their matches will be set-up and build

-Curious with what happens with Brock at EC

-EC match could have a good line up

-Dolph and Kofi are still stuck in mid cards but they always entertain me in every match

-Very interested with NXT on the network

I still ain't going to WWE's house show in my town and only am watching WM cause of the network,No I'm not a"Vince/WWE apologist"but just like to focus on the positives and like many..Can't wait for Vince to step down already,Having Trips fully in charge won't be all that great at times but I still rather him in charge of decisions than Vince!

Looking forward to RAW. I hope the live fans follow through and continue to voice their displeasure. Eventually creative will have to take notice and do something about it.

The worst part is, 5 years from now when watching this Rumble, it's been ruined by the crowd turn without the same level of emotional investment in what they did with Bryan. It will simply be distracting.

We're an "And your new Cruiserweight Champion: X-Pac" away from the old boys club being back. Not particularly a good thing, nor something I really wanted to see.

I enjoy the occasional appearance and match from the older guys like NAO, but winning the title from Cody and Goldy who have wrestled some VERY entertaining matches? No thanks. Again, what a waste of the talent.

Not like they'll be dominant tag champions for a long time,Most probably will be dropping the titles back to Rhodes Bros or another team like Usos at Mania.

It's also good for the tag division to have a team like them who can still go working with other teams, gives them a good rub and so no not really a waste of talent

Seriously twitter is still rampant.

@NoelClarke: What a crock - @WWE @WWEUK #Batista #Yawn #Predicatble Team #RomanReigns (Hoping you'll pull a switch by WM30)

Mickey from doctor who is even slagging them off

Honestly, I think the fans would have been a little bit okay if anyone but Batista had won.

I don't think anyone really thinks that he deserves to be put back onto the spotlight this soon, let alone at the cost of other wrestlers who have busted their asses throughout the years in order to get to where they are at now.

He just doesn't have that look or presence anymore, imho, that would make a person root for him to win. He's not involved in a major story line like he was with Triple H in order for the build up to get fans to warm up to him.

Heck, Roman Reigns had been booked as a powerhouse of a heel for the last few months and yet people were chanting for him to win once it boiled down to him and Dave.

I'm actually amazed some are saying the fans went overboard and were obnoxious. Sorry but BS they paid they're hard earned money and if you don't like the product you paid for then you do something about

But sure they should enjoy what they're given sit there arms folded quietly and be good little boys and girls.

I always laugh at the whole "giving someone a rub" concept. I usually find that's just a bookers way of making something to sound better than it'll actually be in this day and age with overly complicated story lines and lack of long term vision.

There really isn't much to gain from since Cody and Goldy lost the belts fairly clean to begin with.

If this is a way for the Uso's to win the belts off a heel team at Mania, then it's simply too soon. Then again, the tag division is only hanging by a thread from being dead. And again, that's giving a team (NAO) a place at Mania when they don't really deserve it.

WWE knows what the fans want yet the people defending them cry foul when people voice their opinion the way wrestling fans always have, through chants.,after WWE does something stupid. The fans want Bryan in the big spot, so why is it okay when WWE deliberately goes against the majority of it's fanbase? How is that worth defending? I want DigificWriter to answer that.

So will Kane be facing Punk at EC?,Seems like their issues and especially at the rumble is leading to a match where Trips will probably interfere to set-up their match at mania

It's like the fans and creative are on two opposite sides of the spectrum. WWE are pushing guys the fans don't want and the fans are pushing for guys WWE doesn't want.

It really is.

I think what it boils down to is the higher powers want one direction, and the majority of the fanbase want the opposite, and the higher powers don't like being told what to do, especially when they don't have to now.

Obviously, my friend, but how can any fan defend that?

I applaud that crowd last night,it was well deserved and I hope it continues tonight and especially at Mania!

It finally dawned on me that the WWE are going to feed The Wyatt Family to John Cena.
