The WWE Universe Doesn't Know That There's A Wrestling Thread - Part 28

gasp...how dare you utter such heresy? if you read some of the posts here, Bryan should be WWE, WHC, AND IC champion he's so good

Oh c'mon, everyone knows he's the upper midcard technician who gets the occasional main event spot and one or two world titles.

Bryan doesn't have the look. I mean even Chris Benoit and Punk look like they could hurt you. Bryan looks like a guy I could beat the **** out of and I don't even fight.

Miz has it too. But he's bigger and much more charismatic than Daniel Bryan.

Bryans a much MUCH better technician than Miz though. Even if Bryan doesn't have the size he has the skill. Miz doesn't really do ANYTHING exceptional.

In the ring against a guy like Angle or Bret Hart in their primes I'd believe Bryan stood a chance. Not Miz.

I certainly wouldn't believe Miz fighting a monster. He's not ferocious enough. Somebody like Roddy Piper would gouge some big guys eyes out and stomp his teeth out.

DUH. But were not talking skill. Cause then Bryan is second best on the roster to CM Punk.

You can't always disconnect skill and toughness and the ability to win a fight though

You said Bryan looked like you can kick hiss a** in a fight. Its not always about looks. Bryan does a good job DISPLAYING his skill and that makes him look believable as a winner.

You said..

Bryan doesn't have the look. I mean even Chris Benoit and Punk look like they could hurt you. Bryan looks like a guy I could beat the **** out of and I don't even fight.
which is an archaic excuse in this day in age.

There have been numerous cases of bigger guys losing to smaller guys. How did Flair beat Vader? With skill.

And finally...Two words. Shawn. Michaels.

As for the "charisma" excuse. Diesel was more charismatic and bigger than Bret Hart but Bret was the guy who kept the company above water while with Diesel it sank even more.

Yet Mysterio looks like he can hurt you?

To me Bryan doesn't look or talk like a main eventer. HBK could wrestle his ass off and could talk. Bret Hart could wrestle his ass off and he had the look of a main eventer and he could talk a little. Yeah Benoit won but he had this ruthless and crazy sob nature about him that made people like him. Bryan just wrestles. He doesn't have anything that makes him stand out. Benoit would headbutt a dude 20 damn times and he would do crazy **** and he just stood out. His wrestling told you his personality. Bryan to me doesn't have that.

I agree I think Benoit looked like a physco. I mean they even sold shirts with outlines of broken collar bones showing what his move could do.

That's cause he was a ruthless and crazy SOB

He doesn't but Mysterio and Bryan is apples and oranges. Mysterio is a guy who only won his first title because of Eddie dieing. But even then. He became a maineventer because of his exciting matches and his gimmick. Bryan doesn't have this. He just wrestles. Thats all good in ROH but what else does he do to stand out in WWE. Mysterio may not look tough but he stands out because of the gimmick and his exciting matches.

I think Bryan can put on exciting matches when it's called for. Problem I think that it's hard considering a lot of guys on the current roster do gimmick moves over technical wrestling. Even at MITB he was exciting to watch.
Mic work I think he's kinda lousy but can't is much easier to fix over time rather than mat skills

Theirs nothing wrong with him wrestling wise cause he always puts on good matches but he'll never be anything close to a maineventer unless they give him a new gimmick or a mouthpiece.

When Bret first broke into the main event he was no great talker. He got better but he was probably on Bryan's level as a talker in 1992.

As for Bret and Shawn wrestling their asses off...yeah they could. But I'd bet money that Bryan could hang with them in the ring in a match and wrestle almost as well.

Sure Benoit had intensity but Bret didn't...not at THAT level anyway...and he worked.

Shawn was one of the smallest main eventers in WWE history.

The idea of the "look" of a main eventer has changed a lot on the last 20 years. Nash used to call guys like Benoit and Guerrero vanilla midgets but they proved that wrong didn't they?

Mysterio is another example. Smaller than Bryan but theres no denying he's one of the most popular guys there. If people can buy Mysterio winning they can buy Bryan winning in main events form time to time.

So we've seen examples of guys lacking in size that could make it. Guys lacking in charisma that could make it. I'd say Bryan has a decent chance if he's ever given an opportunity because he does something exceptionally well. He's a hell of a wrestler.

I'd believe Bryan taking on guys like Shawn and Bret before I'd ever believe Miz beating those guys.

The only thing Miz does even close to exceptionally well is talk and while he's talking HBK would be superkicking his teeth out for the one two three.

Every main eventer has to do SOMETHING exceptionally well and Bryan already does that. he can be the guy that lets his wrestling do the talking. I didn't hear anyone laughing when he told Miz he could make him tap out...cause everybody believed it.

My issue is a losing streak never helps get someone over. The loss to Barrett is the only one I have a problem with because he's not doing crap right now. If you wanted to get Barrett over maybe you should give him the briefcase, because you're not doing Bryan any favors by having him lose to a guy who is most known for leading a stabe full of guys nobody cares about that got their asses kicked by John Cena. Perhaps Vince should have put the MITB on Barrett or Rhodes, because they seem like guys he would be more comfortable with. I like Barrett but losing to him is not the same as losing to Christian and Del Rio.

it also devalues MITB a little bit. When a guy wins it and then he's a long term loser. Just doesn't make MITB look so good when a guy like that can win it.

What if they are doing that thing where a guy loses a lot so that it suprises people when he starts to win?

I noticed yoshi tatsu on the smackdown royal rymble the other week. I thought he left

It works with a brand new guy because you have no expectations. Thats why it worked for 123 Kid. That first win came out of nowhere.

Stuff like that has to be booked REALLY well with a more established talent. Because when a guy wins something then loses a lot its just really confusing. YOu begin to wonder if that previous win was just a fluke an devalues it a little. There has to be some kind of reason for his losses. His confidence is shot or he's wrestling some REALLY talented guys. And something has to be done with the losing streak in terms of good character drama.

MVP's losing streak was HORRIBLY handled. He never really recovered from it because it wasn't booked well.

I finally got the new Cage match dvd.

Right now I'm watching the OMG Top 50 moments. Whats everyones take on the list?

I can't argue number 1
but some of the picks are ridiculous. Mae Young giving birth to a hand ranking THAT high?

For anyone who wants to see it DON'T PM me. I HAVEN'T found it to watch by "other" means.

I need to catch the Top Superstars of the 21st Century after hearing you guys talk about it. I may buy it.

Was "Austin, Tyson!, Austin, Tyson, AUSTIN, TYSON!!!!" #1?

Rubbish, most of us here recognize him as the best worker in the WWE, but have aknowledged he'd be more of a utility guy that could hold the title and wrestle in the upper card, but never be like Cena or Punk and be the number 1 guy in the company.

However he's not alone, the same goes for guys like Miz and Del Rio, the difference is Bryan will be used like Jericho as he can get a good match out of anyone.
