Comic accuracy aside, if it's just the same characters then what's the point of a name change? They would be more profitable calling it X-Men, not changing the name even though it features the same cast. You don't wanna take the same members of the Avengers and give them the name Defenders. They need to be defined separately and hold on to their name for appeal.
Pretty much the whole point of putting out an X-Force film would be to introduce new characters who do not have a place on the X-Men, and are more on the violent/morally questionable side. Think there's a reason the film is said to feature mutants who have not made it to the mansion. They want to show an unexplored side of the universe and characters.
I must admit after watching DOFP and how good Ashmore is as Iceman, I thought about him leading X-Force. He wouldn't have been in consideration for me before DOFP but they could use X-Force to develop his powers into how great he is in the comics.
However I agree with Def28. My problem would be that he is pretty centric in the normal X-Men and that might be why I would decide against it. Same with the other members, an X-Men spin off should be used to introduce some of the many mutants in the X-Men universe, not to only use the ones who have had smaller roles in main films.
As for the other members I would probably have Warpath from mutants already in films but I wouldn't have him alongside Blink and Colossus, he's too similar to Colossus for such a small team and I don't think Blink would fit either if Psylocke is in there. As long as they have Domino and Psylocke introduced if they do the film, I don't really mind who the other members are. I wouldn't even mind if they didn't use Deadpool/Cable, I would prefer if they used them but whatever it takes to make a good successful film
Thank you guys for responding in a respectful, non-personal way. I understand your argument. The way I look at it, they never truly referred to them as X-Men, so we don't really know their place on the team.
Also, this future has been changed, so we don't know the dynamics of the X-Men, the teams as a whole, their missions, etc. for all we know, in this alternate future, the X-Force team already exists and was put into place in 2015.
I think comparing side characters of the X-Men like Warpath, Blink and Bishop to Captain America, Iron Man and Thor is a major stretch. It would be more like taking Avengers members like Hawkeye, Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch after Age of Ultron and making them the... West Coast Avengers?
And I understand introducing new characters, which I'm all for. But I don't feel Warpath, Blink, Bishop or Colossus have been given any characterization or depth whatsoever. They haven't been explored at all. You got teases of the characters, 90% action sequences. Using them as the team for this movie would take characters the audience has seen before and expanding them, giving them real traits the audience can connect with. I think showing growth in a character like Bobby Drake would be nice for the audience. As for the team doing morally questionable things, I think it the characters chosen could understandably pull that off. Especially since, as I've said before, their characters haven't been truly explored or defined.
And finally, correct me if I'm wrong, but even though Warpath has superhuman strength and durability, was it really shown in the movie? All he really showed was great fighting skills and superhuman senses.
I'm just trying to put a different thought into it and do something using the universe we've already been given. Just thinking aloud.
