The Year 2012 (Merged)

Yeah...because we know that mathematical concepts and predicting the end of the world are totally in the same field.

like I said, it's not "the end of the world", they just made their mathematical calculations up until that date

I wonder if they had the internet? Hell, or even a calculator, for that matter. Let's see what the Mayans have to say about transistors, or electricity! :yay:

I wonder that same thing too, one would obviously need some mayor technological gizmos at hand to come up with such numbers, theorems and the like

and as what would they say? I dunno, but maybe they'd laugh at our primitive transistors

"Hey, guys! I just invented a new mathematical theorem, and I've mapped the stars! By the way, I'm also a ****ing psychic. Keep 2012 open in your datebooks, 'kay? ...why are you all looking at me like that?"

contrary to your theory, I don't think it would be the same person who came up with all the things you mention, but a whole civilization, and you know, those things can last hundreds of years, right? years that can be used to make a buckload of research, development and discoveries, it only took us 40 years to go from the transistor to fiber optics

Dude, I know English isn't your first language...but come on. That sentence doesn't make any sense.

let me rewrite in in words you can understand:

"read, don't talk out of your ass"

We agree on one point.

we agree on many points

Uh....huh. I'd really, really appreciate it if you'd stick to your medication schedule from now on, mm'k? That'd be greeeeaaaat.

Sound is nothing but a disturbance of mechanical energy that propagates through matter as a wave. Humans perceive sound by the sense of hearing. By sound, we commonly mean the vibrations that travel through air and are audible to people. Now ask yourself this age old philisophical question: If a tree falls in the woods and no one is there to hear it, does it make a sound? When our time-echo is done rippling and fades away, who will hear it? Not a soul. and thus you realize your existence is as meaningful as a tree falling in the woods. A raindrop rippling in a lake. A snowflake landing on a mountain. Or a leaf falling from a tree.

A pedal falling from a tree? Where the **** do you live?

2012 is not going to be the end of the world.
That's ridiculous, but no doubt, it'll be interesting.
Man, Y2K was great.

"OMG! Year 2000!"

like I said, it's not "the end of the world", they just made their mathematical calculations up until that date
So why all the hubub about what happens then? It's really rather baseless speculation.

Thank you. I haven't laughed that hard in ages.

It was sarcasm, dude. It wasn't meant in a literal sense. The point is the same, however: astrology and similar, "disciplines," are total bull****.

Words I can understand? You mean not the garbled English you were spewing out before? :oldrazz:

Your mother's chest hair! :cmad:

Nostradamus ,JZ Knight and Edward Casey have all predicted a major polar shift between the years of 2007 and 2012.Even Nasa has said that a 11 year solar flare cycle will peek in 2012 as well as shift in the sun's magnetic field.

Edgar Cayce... the sleeping prophet... very interesting reading.

Here's a music video we should all play on 2012:

If you know the lyrics sing along, "it's the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine."

The physical universe ended 7 years ago, we are nothing but an echo in time caused by its destruction. All echoes fade with time, and this 'time-echo' we exist in is no different, for we will slowly but surely fade into nothingness as well. The mayans forsaw this time echo as a continuation of our existence, and so paid no attention to the true destruction of our physical universe. They instead marked the end of the world as 2012. Whether you doubt the end is in 2012 or not is of no importance, for all you know will fade into nothingness in 5 years.

Do you belong to that same religious cult as that crazy guy in the film 'Sunshine'?:oldrazz:

I wouldn't go as far as calling it "baseless", but erroneous, it might be

why?

while I don't tend to take astrology that seriously either, Astronomy, on the other hand is a totally different ballgame, which was the field they aided themselves to come up with all those calculations (of course, besides mathematics)

This echo of the future past I believed is more science fiction than fact

But sometimes we can know the future by finding clue at the present time

Like the entry point of an asteroid or a comet in earth atmosphere “in the future” could be the result of some of these holes in the atmosphere that we think was the result of releasing too much gas that causes the destruction of the ozone layer.
Or the place on earth with the most earthquakes will be the point of such an impact.

Oh God! Don’t let it be Japan!
No more anime for the rest of us!
Anyway, why does it matter?
Everyone will suffer and die anyway lol

Astronomy is all well and good, but when you take the movements of constellations relative to earth as some sign, or as a way of predicting the future, you're bat**** crazy, IMO.

maybe they discovered patterns we haven't

and no, they didn't predict the future, they just measured their calendar up until that particular point in time, why? your guess is as good as mine

but keep this in mind, they did not predict anything, they just established that it was the end of an era

no earthquakes, wars, asteroids or the like are mentioned

although they do mention the position of the earth in the whole galaxy, that takes some pretty heavy calculating
