Okay I've been researching it and here is the conclusion that I have come to. This celestial alignment occurs every 26,000 years about. If it was going to wipe out all life on land every time, than all of the evolution of the life on land that we know has been occuring for over a billion years would never have occurred.

Unless the religous who believe the earth is not that old were actually right all along.

Lotta UK press is giving it props reading online, just in terms of effects and disaster scale, they say its one of the better disaster movies of that genre, so it caught my eye..

okay apparently the allignment between the earth, the sun, and the center of the galaxy isn't supposed to cause it alone. It has something to do with the galactic plane they are talking about and that it's effect on magnetic forces is what's going to cause a switch in the magnetic poles, not to be confused with with the terestrial north pole or the geo magnetic pole.

Anyways our magnetic pole is moving, and during the last century it's movement has rapidly accelerated. Our magnetic field is weakening and many argue that this is because of what is to come after the allignment takes place.

My porevious assumption I made that this phenomenon can't be possible because over a billion years of evolution of life on land has taken place no longer negates the 2012 doomsday theories because the earth has undergone very long periods where no geo magnetic reversals took place.

Now scientists at NASA tell us this reversal would take place gradually over 5,000 years, but it is possibly that they might be lying to us.

Needless to say, if we experience a rapid or instant geomagnetic reversal we are all gone. It would create tsunamis large enough to literally flood the earth instantly and kill us all.

I'm trying to figure out what I believe here, and it's kind of difficult because you don't know who to trust.

Doomsday sayers will obviously exagerate and even lie to make their beliefs more widely accepted, and the government would surely lie to us and try to cover up many facts to prevent us from finding out.

But from what I've seen so far, I'm definitely worried about it, and I'm hoping that just incase the government has prepared for the task of making sure a few thousand humans surive it with the means to repopulate the earth afterwards. Who all knows for all we know they have beenstockpiling seeds, solar mirrors, and supplies onboard the ISS for a while now. Maybe they will send it commands to land on a dry continent after the water recedes.

Who knows? I guess we will a few months into 2013. It's possible that whatever occurs in December 2012 doesn't have immediate effects. The sun is expected to flare up right afterwards into 2013.

Anybody that reputable would be smart enough not to. I know I wouldn't. What if the government is preparing to recolonize the planet. The mass hysteria, panic, and economic devestation it would bring would almost certainly botch whatever plans they have in mind.

Plus the fact that the government could probably just have em killed. And a small few of those reputable scientists have come forward claiming it's true.

If I knew for a fact it was true, and I had the means to prove it to the world. I would choose not to for the reasons mentioned above.

actually that makes me even more worried now that you mention it. these people are talking about it, and you know what they are saying? Don't Panic, the peak in solar activity is ONLY going to disrupt cell phones, televisions, radios, satelittes and internet communication, but don't panic because that is all that will happen.

That is one heck of a coincedence. It's almost like the devestation of the earth will conviently help the government keep us from find out about it. We will have no way to inform one another.

Hey man I'm completely curious as to the opinions of others here who may have researched it, and by hearing their points and making my own points for them to touch upon it can help one form a better opinion.

The part of this who idea about the government trying to repopulate the earth has got to be the least far fetched part of the entire theory.

If the earth is going to be destroyed, does anybody actually think the world's government's wouldn't try to repopulate the planet? Of course they would. That's not in question.

The part that is in question is whether or not the earth will experience this change in the first place.

I don't know either way. None of us do. It almost sounds arrogant for a person to assume they are completely safe. We would not be warned about this. Just like we were not warned about 9-1-1 even though the 911 commission reports confirmed the government knew terrorist would fly airplanes into skyscrapers. They didn't know the exact date or the exact building but they knew it would happen, and they kept it from us.

They keep a lot of things from us.

this also has me thinking about when water goes down the drain. On one side of the world it goes one direction. On the other side it goes another direction. It's possible that the magnetic field of the galactic plane in the galaxy could effect the earth, the same way earth's magnetic field cause water to go clockwise or counter clockwise down a drain. After all our magnetic field is cause by the rotation of the earth and the rotation of the earth's inner core.

Okay a few undisputed facts. Geo Magnetic reversals have happened many, many times in fact. When this happens it creates giant tsunamis that completely flood the earth. For life on land, your talking mass extinction.

Well to be fair in 2000 we heard that computers were going to be messed up causing economic devestation if we don't fix it. than I heard we were going to fix it. than I heard we fixed it but there will still be a few glitches. than there were a few glitches.

Basiclly our computers needed to be updated, so we updated them.

And one could easily argue that geo magnetic reversals are pretty signifigant cycles.
