She is a very beautiful woman. Part of why I wouldn't mind if she was MJ. But part of me is really starting to hope she's Betty Brant.

Why have Betty be Peter's age, though? She was always a bit older than him and Zendaya and Tom are the same age with Tom being older by a few months.

Laura Harrier works better as Betty or Liz (one-off), whereas Zendaya works better as a prominent figure for Peter whether that be MJ, Gwen, Felicia, etc.

I think deep down we all know she's playing MJ. I think Marvel want to make a complete statement, not just in terms of trying to make a great Spidey film, but politically.

Ok, I'll be the one still hoping she's not MJ. If she was the best candidate, then fine. But don't do it just to "prove" something.

Bear in mind, I will give her a chance if she is MJ. Marvel has earned my faith. I just will be disappointed, at least at first. What can I say, I'm more a traditional guy.

changing MJ's race and casting Zendaya to make a "political" statement would be the worst possible rationale.

If Zendaya beat out other actresses and was the best girl for the part, so be it. I may not like the decision, but I would at least respect that decision.

However, if it turns out they race changed MJ mainly to fulfill some PC/SJW agenda, then THAT would be a turn off for me.

make a good movie that respects the source material. don't try to put your own political stamp on it.

If/when it's official, I'm excited to see what she brings to the role and what direction they take with her.

This is the second reboot in 5 years so it seems like a given that the new filmmakers would want to change the flavor for these films, aside from making Peter younger and having the MCU connection. Making an iconic comics couple biracial would definitely add a new spice (and controversy) to the mix and be exciting for a lot of people, particularly those in the GA who are outside of comicdom. I'm also certain that if Zendaya is indeed MJ that Marvel will have made sure she was right for the part before casting her, much like they did with Tom when they screen tested him with RDJ and Chris Evans.
