see its just little tweaks that could have really improved the movie suit, the little 3d white tubes make it look so ridiculous, just a white mouth like this image works fine
Visually that drawing is better what with the tubes at the back, but logically not so much. Would you want to present your enemy with such obvious targets for disabling you? Those hoses and tubes would be prime targets, and present to obvious a weakness to even consider utilizing. A well placed batarang could sever those tubes, and he would be down. Nolan's Bane presents very little of a visual weakness to target in that regard. It makes him more fearsome when his weakness is well hidden. Remember function over form. Practicality over aesthetics.
I do agree, however, the mask in that drawing is substantially better than what Nolan came up with. Something preserving the lucha look would have been appropriate. Nolan completely discarded it. The tubes in the mask present a problem like the tubes on the back of his head. It presents too easy a target. The mask in the movie doesn't look strong, but like a well aimed armored fist could do damage. It looks busy, and presents a target. The mask should look solid and damage proof such as the one in the picture. In some ways Nolan improved it, but in other ways he just made odd changes.
