Rise of the Silver Surfer THING/Michael Chiklis DISCUSSION

Chiklis was also great again this time around...he and evans work well together, and the crowd really loved most of The Things jokes.

I am surprised more people haven't brought up the fact that he lifted up the London Eye in the movie, that was a pretty big thing to do in my opinion. Anyone who has seen it in real life would know that it is a lot bigger and heavier than it looks. I am glad they showed him able to lift something so heavy, rather than just a car.

Yep, can't say he didn't show his strength in this one...

The thing was a lot better in this one i felt...

although i expect more emotion with him turning back into a human for a short while, i thought he'd at least be as emotional as beast was in the last stand when he saw his human hand.

I guess the thing is now at peace with his form.

Does having the thing bench press the london eye make him now have a feat of strength that is greater than the hulk's tank throwing?

i loved how they made the thing look like he is organic.
this is what they wanted right? hehe dont tell me that he was supposed to be from rocks ;)

That's the biggest area where they just piss all over the comics/character.

To anyone who grew up reading about the Thing, watching Reed struggle his ass off for DECADES to help Ben return to human form....watching DECADES worth of angst and misery over his disfigurement.......his whole thing was that his only wish was to be able to touch Alicia with normal hands someday, and then, when all the measures failed, trying to get as comfortable as he can with his imposed life as a rocky-hided creature.

To see him just turn back to human in a happy-go-lucky way, for a sec, and have ZERO prob with losing his humanity again?!

It's preposterous....it's the whole deal with Ben.....it's like having a Batman movie where his parents weren't killed in front of him when he was a little kid.
So, so, so lame.

It would still be nice if they did a make-up that was faithful to the comic books. It wouldn't be hard! In the first one he looked like an orange monkey, but in 2 he looks a bit better.

Hey, the Thing IS organic! He is not really made of "rock" he just has a tough, rock like hide.

I like The Thing, but, I would have still liked to have seen how this looked on film:

I think Chiklis is always great. He was super. And his Thing, I thought, was even better this time around. I could be upset with how nonchalant he was about going back and forth between regular human form and back to the Thing this go around but that's just the tone of these movies. This one is definitely geared towards the younger crowd.

I liked the more pronounced brow. I still say unto thee, that I don't see why they can't just go all out. Seems they're going to micro inch their way towards it the way they've done on the Spidey suit in his movies. It makes me laugh when I hear about all the intense debate and thought that has gone into Spider-Man's costume changes the last two movies when all they're really doing is getting it closer to what it is in the books. Which is what they should have done to begin with.

Well I'm not talking really about his attire. I don't like that look for the big guy as far as cosmetically.

Me either.....I don't think I would care a hoot what happened to that thing......I did care in both 1 and 2 to what happened with Ben....and was able to do that because of the human inside the suit....much like the human inside of the rock like exterior....

Don't forget that Michael is about to be on Jay Leno......

If he looked like that maquette they would've had to go CGI...no costume could do that.

^A CGI Thing would be truly horrible IMO. I like what we got.

I think Chiklis did a great job again. I love the way he does the voice, and the little double takes and side glances he does makes the rocky guy look human.
