So last night I was watching Pulp Fiction for probably the 12th time, and I realized, something that always freaks the hell out me is when Zed opens open up the box, unlatch a cage, and The Gimp scampers out of it. I just find it really unnerving and I find it to be very disturbing.

What are things from movies that scare you or freak you out? Citing something from a horror film just seems to easy in this case.

When I was younger, I use to get freaked out by the velociraptors in 'Jurassic Park' during the kitchen scene and the shark in 'Jaws' towards the end.

Not sure of anything that scared me in modern times, but if I think of one I'll post it.

Watch The Last King of Scotland. The entire third act is truly terrifying.

"Being John Malkovich" freaked me out.....

Cool thread...which means it'll probably die soon.

The old lady talking through Betty's screen door in Mulholland Dr. bothers me.

The two old people and the theater scene in Mulholland Drive.

The nightmare face in Inland Empire, though I'm not sure that isn't a horror film anyway.

The bit with the hooks...oh man...:wow:

Actually, for me it was the scene in which they show when the main character discovers what happened to Amin's wife - how it ominously builds up with the wailing women and then cuts to *that* shot. Stuff of nightmares, I tells you. :csad:

Black Swan.. the stuff leading to Natalie's transformation , especially that hospital scene.

Pee Wee Herman's Big Top Adventure ... "Large Marge" Basically Pee Wee is hitchhiking and gets picked up by a ghoul of some kind.

The suicide scene in Rules of Attraction. My cousin committed suicide in the same way, and the actress has an uncanny similarity.

Nearly forgot about that. Errr....thanks for...umm...errr...oh boy...umm...bringing it back up...oh my...

...

;)

The pedophile scene in Running Scared is very disturbing

Some of the stuff in Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me. Not sure if that counts though, since it seemed to be kind of a horror-ish film. Well, I guess almost any Lynch film is like that really.

Also, Timothy Spall's face in The King's Speech :(

Flying Monkeys in Wizard of Oz freaked me out when I was a child... come to think of it they still do. Eeesh.

The microscope scene from The Phantom. I saw that on VHS as a young kid and to this day I still can''t watch that movie, which is a shame, because I loved it whenever I saw it on TV previously, where that scene was cut.

Wow, I TOTALLY agree with Running Scared. That scene in the apartment came out of NOWHERE and was absolutely terrifying. The shadows in the bathroom.. holy crap. It was like a miniature movie within the movie. Brilliant and scary as ****.

Lynch films like MD and Inland Empire usually contain an element of horror, if they aren't outright horror films in and of themselves... unsettling stuff!

Black Swan was definitely a horror film, so not sure what it's doing in here ???

As for me, Night on Bald Mountain in Fantasia.. never got through the whole thing. NEVER. Scared me as a child, would always leave the room or turn it off. Nothing has changed.

The suicide scene in Rules of Attraction. My cousin committed suicide in the same way, and the actress has an uncanny similarity.

Great film. You read the book? As close to capturing the spirit of what Ellis writes much more than American Psycho.

In Blade Runner where Batty sticks his head through the wall and starts talking freaks me right out. I've had a few dreams about it but he always sings Bah Bah Black Sheep. Honestly, it sounds like made-up funny bullsh** but I've actually had that dream several times and I can assure you that there's nothing comical about it. It's not the contents, but the context of how we view something.

Little Children, when Kate Winslet's daughter goes missing for a minute at the end, then she finds her staring up at the street-light with the moths flitting about, then she finds Jackie Earle Haley's character sitting on the swing all alone at the playground...then...

*shudders*

That scene really bugged me out the first time I saw it.

Not in the traditional sense. There were people that literally dropped popcorn when scary things started to happen. The guy next to me almost had a heart attack because of the shock of it. Most people were expecting art film/ thriller. It definitely grabs you by surprise.

It reminds me of that movie Vanilla Sky . I hadn't known about the film beforehand but when we see Cruise is being interrogated with a mask on it was surreal .

- When the guys face crumbles in 'Indiana Jones:The Last Crusade'
- The guys head exploding in the pressure chamber in 'License to Kill'
- The guys head exploding in the microwave in 'Kick Ass'
- The guy loosing his arm in The Machinist

I haven't seen the movie, but I hate Natalie Portman's 'Swan' face in Black Swan. When I was a kid, I was scared of Eric Draven first coming back in The Crow. The atmosphere of the scene mixed with the screaming, I would seriously skip over that part back in the day.
