Things that DC did that you think were wrong.

To the same extent, no. I'm just saying, I'm wary about how much his extent may escalate the more comics he starts writing. To his credit, he's actually undone some of the damage Meltzer and Johns did to the JLA by basically overriding their retcons with another retcon that reinstated the general points of his JLA: Year One history. I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt by actually reading most of the things he's writing and keeping an open mind; but I still worry that his love of the Silver Age status quos may override his desire to keep creating new things. Remember, Johns himself was a pretty innovative writer on Flash and JSA before he started giving in and reinstating the Silver Age like a madman.

So, basically, it's a preemptive strike against Waid?

Yeah, I'm not saying you're wrong. That may very well happen. But to blame the guy even before he does it... it seems foolish.

I haven't blamed him for anything. I'm just not a fan of DC's putting that kind of power in his or any of the other writers' hands.

I was going to compile a list like Corp's but then realized what a waste of time it would be.

Turning the "Titans of Myth" into villians. Ruining Cassandra Cain after her comic ended. Killing Bart. Catwoman's baby NOT being Batman's baby. Skipping over Garfield/Raven romance and "break-up". ...Pretty much all the OYL stuff.

Knightfall

Knightquest

Killing Azrael

Character raping Cassie Cain

Killing Superboy

Superboy Prime Punch!

im glad selina's baby is'nt bruce's. catwoman just sucks now and is very much an uninteresting character. i rather not have batman be bogged down by a crappy character.

Things I've had a problem with at DC recently:

- Turning Batgirl into a murderous villain, thereby invalidating pretty much everything about the character, then backtracking when they saw how angry fans were and claiming that Deathstroke was just drugging her, then having the drugs wear off and turning her into a murderous anti-hero, thereby invalidating everything about the character again. So, basically, everything that anyone has done with Batgirl since her series ended.

- Killing Conner Kent right when he was getting interesting.

- Resurrecting Kara Zor-El as an obnoxious *****ebag whose only mission in life initially appeared to be beating the crap out of every other hero she met.

- Turning Tim into an angsty, emo amalgam of Dick and Bruce. I ask you, why was it necessary to ruin everything unique about Tim that made him an even better Robin than either Dick or Jason were? It's ******ed.

- Giving Johns, Waid, Morrison, and Meltzer free reign to resurrect the Silver Age in its entirety.

- Resurrecting Jason Todd.

- Getting rid of the rich, interesting cast of characters from Gotham Central and replacing them with Commissioner Gordon and Harvey Bullock again. Bringing Gordon back to lead the GCPD? Fine. Focusing all interaction between Batman and the GCPD on Gordon and Bullock? Not so fine. Rucka and Brubaker built up a cast of characters better than most in comics in Gotham Central, and now they're being totally wasted simply because DC believes readers are too stupid to accept a GCPD without its familiar mascots Gordon and Bullock.

- Putting the Silver Age Legion back in Superman's history. I don't mind the Legion so much, but if they were gonna do it, couldn't they have at least maintained the New Earth timeline's consistency and used Waid's current Legion? The fact that Superman and Supergirl were each members of different Legions is just gonna lead to confusion later on, which'll probably inspire someone else to do more retcons down the line, and the whole thing'll just suck.

- Turning Captain Atom into an awe-inspiring badass in Captain Atom Armageddon, only to bring him back as a catatonic ****** in Battle for Bludhaven, then slap him in the Monarch armor and take him out of play for a whole year with his fans wondering whether he's good or bad, still himself or developing into the Monarch as he was supposed to do years ago, etc.

- Using Bart Allen as an ultimately pointless place-holder in the Flash legacy between Wally's disappearance and reappearance, with horrible writing and no mention of Wally's status for about a year. It was a disservice to Bart as a character and Wally's fans, and it made the people behind DC look like utter *****es who don't give a damn about their characters.

- Quite a lot of things going on with Wonder Woman. I don't like the secret agent angle, I don't like the fact that Picoult has made Wonder Woman seem like a moron when it comes to modern life, and I really don't like Amazons Attack or the fact that Hippolyta is now a villain and Artemis and Philippus are citing the ol' Nazi "just following orders" mantra.

- That Helmet of Fate Zauriel issue. What the **** was that about? Zauriel was barely even recognizable in it. Worse, that characterization of Zauriel as "Heaven's good soldier" has carried over into Shadowpact. Since when is Zauriel a good soldier who'll follow Heaven's orders--even if they require murder--without question? I miss the Zauriel of Morrison's JLA and Millar's Day of Judgment.

- Killing off Hector Hall, who had loads of potential to be an incredibly interesting Dr. Fate. Even more, I hated the fact that the stupid editorial mandate that Vertigo couldn't cross over with mainstream DC pretty much ruined a good portion of Hector's potential coolness, given that his son is Dream of the Endless. That also brings me to my next point...

- The way Johns has managed the characters of JSA. I enjoy JSA, don't get me wrong. But Johns has spent his entire run focusing on Stargirl, Mr. Terrific, Power Girl, and Dr. Mid-Nite for the most part, leaving other great members of the team out in the cold. The android Hourman, Sand, and Dr. Fate--some of my favorites on the JSA roster--have barely had a single arc where they played a major role. I didn't even know if Sand was still a member of the team for months.

- Killing off the android Hourman and making the Golden Age Hourman retire, leaving us with Rick Tyler, the very least that the Hourman legacy has to offer. This one's mitigated a bit by having Rick marry Jesse Quick, which was a good pairing and makes both of them a little more fun. Still, I really loved the android Hourman. :(

- Giving Wildcat a long-lost kid--absolutely never a good idea to begin with--and then playing up his self-ascribed inability to be a father, despite the fact that he's been a surrogate father to Black Canary for almost her whole life. Simone devoted an entire bloody arc in Birds of Prey to that relationship, for Christ's sake.

- Having Kingdom Come crap bleed over into the mainstream DC universe more and more.

- Killing off the Question and then cramming Rene Montoya into that role. It's not a good fit, period.

- Making the JLA boring as all hell.

- Getting rid of Ray Palmer and replacing him with an Asian copy of himself. This may be nullified by the upcoming Search for Ray Palmer, which looks to be pretty awesome.

- Making Connor Hawke the pacifist monk a murderer.

- Allowing Adam Beechen to write anything.

I'm sure I have more problems with DC's current comics, but this is all I can remember at the moment and I've already spent half an hour at work coming up with this much.
I think this is the best list that anyone is going to make. Basically, everything post IC, sucks.

For me, it's the oddball cut & paste mentality of Superman's post-IC continuity in relation to his post-crisis continuity, mainly.

"Those big events like Our Worlds at War still happened. They just happened differently, and key character roles like Zod's were filled by other characters."

WTF kind of storytelling is that, DC?! I'd rather have started over entirely than try to make sense of this mess.

I haven't blamed him for anything. I'm just not a fan of DC's putting that kind of power in his or any of the other writers' hands.
Oh. Well, the way you phrased it made it seem as though you blame those individual writers for embracing the silver age. Which you do, don't you? :o

Knightfall

I thought it was an interesting concept with Bane coming out of no where and strategically making Batman run a gauntlet until he was at his weakest. I can see how it might have come to fast for Bane, the power. I also liked seeing Bane keep the habit, venom, after he was in jail. As to what happened to the character, I last saw him in JSA Classified with Hourman and I think he made an appearance in checkmate.

I'm finding it difficult to like Trials of Shazam and the Monster Society of Evil has been a MAJOR disappointment.:csad:

Killing Steph Brown/Spoiler. Does she even get mentioned, anymore? She was Tim's girlfriend, and Batgirl's best friend.

The Death of Superman. There, I said it.
Everyone praises that story for showing how the world adjusted to being without Superman. What everyone seems to forget is just how full of s*** Clark's fight with Doomsday was.

why are people complaining about how many events, atleast dc's events are in continuity with each other (somewhat) while marvel has wars up the wazoo

Was anyone comparing them to Marvel, though?

Waynes no longer being the richest in Gotham :down

COIE, and most everything since. Couple of good storylines here and there.

no but they said "DC is having way too many events"

So is Marvel, and Marvels are not even connected
What's wrong with disliking both Marvel and DC for so many pointless events, whether they're connected or not?

The thread is for things that DC did wrong. Why would people even bother mentioning Marvel, let alone compare the two?

You must not be aware of the Joe Quesada hate that happens in the Marvel forum on a regular basis.

Cancelling Impulse, Superboy, and Young Justice

Making Bart Kid Flash (because I feel like he prided himself on originality and self-determination, but becoming Kid Flash just made him part of the loop.)

Completely screwing up Superboy (what the hell's with that t-shirt costume? Am I to believe there's Superman merchandise in a world with Superman in it?)

The introduction of the Speed Force was pretty lame, and it might as well never have happened anymore. All it did was give us a cheap way to depower Jesse Quick.

The Question's death, and the lame successor

Egg Fu getting pumped full of Lead (honestly, it doesn't get much more stupid)

Practically everything that's happened to the Marvel Family in the last three or so years

Making Formerly Known as the Justice League and I Can't Believe It's Not the Justice League non-continuity

... The list goes on. Really, that's just for starters, regarding things that've happened that I didn't like.

Killing Bart Allen after 13 issues of him being the Flash

They're about to commit the ultimate mistake as far as I'm concerned.

Turning Kyle Rayner into a new Parallax.
