Also, what happened with Honma was indeed a freak injury, quite like the many you have listed and my comment was not directed at that injury but Shibata's. I quite possibly should have edited the quote down to your last statement and to that extent, I'm sorry.
Talking of which, as far as Shibata is concerned, I disagree with the notion that 'only' he is to blame for what happened. Especially now with where concussion research is, Japanese promotions in general haven't done nearly enough to limit the use of extraordinarily stiff styles which if anything are being eulogised and actively promoted. What happened with Shibata is a natural consequence of that escalation.
