Who said anything about whacking on a new security setup? We're talking about asking a responsible, UK based, member of SHH to keep an eye on things during early morning GMT - on a voluntary basis.

As for the whole 'there's not enough users to warrant a new mod, again, it'll more than likely be purely voluntary, in any case, the argument is void - like 'I'll not take out medical insurance because I don't see myself ever becoming ill.'

This site is in dire need of some uk mods, that tosser was able to post about 20 pieces of porn and various abusive messages and I had to contact four mods before anything happened. It's not the current mods fault what with the time difference but the site definately needs some UK mods to watch out for this kind of thing. Anyone agree?

i know, why don't they make moderators for every timezone and every second of the day, and why don't they do their duties in shifts.

infact, why don't they create a new moderator for every new thread created to make sure this sort of things don't happen.

voluntary or not, it can quite easily get obsessive. I mean at the be all and end all, did anyone get hurt by what just happened or stumble across something they'd never viewed before?

the moderators as they are seem to be doing a decent job, i don't know why you want another one to monitor ALL of the 20 uk users that happen to be one while some of the moderators are asleep.

i mean who is going to look after this place when the Aussies are around, we need an Austrailian mod

I agree that the Mods are doing a good job as it is at the moment but there is that time gap where the moderators are asleep or can't be here where people with malicious intentions know they can exploit... it doesn't neccessarilty have to be a UK user it could be someone from any European country who can cover

The Australian time zone is covered perfectly fine by the US members and it would be completely covered with a European mod

Just my thoughts on the matter

Generally there's not much of a gap. There are several of the mods here that are major night-owls. You may not see them all the time, though, since they are in invisible mod.

And we do have mods from different time zones. All but one of the 4 US zones are represented (which staggers coverage quite a bit), and Danger Mouse is a full 12 hours ahead of us. He, like the night-owls, is generally on overnight.

Today, however, as far as our regular overnighters, one is on vacation and the other has some real-life stuff to take care of.

If it were really a problem, we'd see a lot more of this... and we don't. This is one incident. Anyone remember the last time there was any sort of major incident like this during those 'UK-centric' hours? Anyone...... ?


The other thing that happened this morning is that I got stuck in traffic and was late to work (and getting online) this morning or I would have been here not too long after it began... 1.5 hours before Truthteller showed up, which would have taken care of it much earlier.
