Do we know if Linus Roache and Sara Stewart are returning for TDK?

For me, that was a huge positive to have Bruce's parents in the movie with some insight into their relationship. I love the fact that we got to know them a little. I mean, his parents being killed is the single most important part of the story, I really hope Nolan doesn't let that aspect go now that Bats has "begun". I for one, would like to see more flashbacks to Bruce's parents, instilling more values and also to remind the viewers why he does what he does. Does Martha have like what, one line in BB? I wouldn't mind a flashback that focused on her maybe.

Also, a flashback would lead in perfectly to a graveyard scene with Bats mourning his dead parents(preferably in the rain). :woot:

I get what you're saying but unfortunately I'll guess the chances of more flashbacks are slim.

Although a grave scene would be awesome. Could be used to show Bruce grappling with guilt while struggling to keep his monster in check yadda yadda, don't let down the family....

One aspect that annoyed the hell out of me was that the mother was seriously downplayed. She had one speaking line in the whole movie. It probably wasn't Nolan's intention, but I got the impression from BB that Bruce was only traumatized by his father's murder, not both.

I saw no mother-son connection in BB, which is a shame.

Yeah, there was no mother-son connection... She was like a stepford wife or something. It was also be cool if Bruce put up a huge portrait painting of his parents in the mansion, like in the animated series.

A grave scene would be nice, but hopefully there won't be too much going-on about his parents. We've had a lot of it in past Batman films, it's something that nearly everyone understands about his character and was well established in BEGINS, and so we don't need it hammered in. If it plays a role in his character arc in THE DARK KNIGHT, by all means feature it, but we don't need extensive flashbacks.

^ But his parents can also be a symbol of current things. If Bruce feels like he's losing control the grave reminds him who he really is. If he's having doubts about fulfilling his mission then the grave spurs him onwards. All of that. It's not just woe is me and vengeance.

Agree on no more heavy flashbacks, but there is more to understand/portray about his parents even though other movies have done it already

Hello everyone! Long time lurker, first time poster here :yay:
I believe that the scene in B89 in which Bruce goes into the alley and places flowers, right over where his parents were killed, is one of the most effective scenes of the movie. It shows a human side to Keaton's stoic, unemotional Batman.
Such a kind of scene in TDK would be useful in highlighting the reasons behind Batman's dangerous obsession. After all, the death of Bruce's parents is what has always made Batman fans connect with the character at a primal level, and is the main reason why the character has endured for so many decades.
That said, I would like to see a few more scenes with Thomas Wayne and young Bruce in TDK, as it would make the viewers empathise with the protagonist, and make them aware of the full extent of Bruce's loss.

There won't be flashbacks of young Bruce Wayne. The Dark Knight is about Batman being the Batman and not becoming Batman... that's what I think at least ;)

I beg to differ....Bruce will never forget his past. It's what made him what he is. You don't forget that kind of pain..ever.

I know, but I don't think we'll get to see more flashbacks of young Bruce...

Ya know ? The loss (sp) of the Waynes has been an important part in every chapter of the Batman saga, may it be comics, tv or movies...I can only remember one time it wasn´t used....it was one movie....when we were told that Bruce "got over it"....one tiny movie...remember what movie was it...??:whatever:

The Waynes are important in every Batman tale, they´ve always been, They´ll always be.

Polux

I don't suppose you've read DEATH AND THE MAIDENS, then, where Wayne struggles with guilt over not feeling the pain of his parents' death anymore, and then essentially moves on. It's a great character arc, I think, and an important step for the character.

I'm alright with Bruce moving on in that regard in the comics, just not the second movie. And when I say flashbacks, I don't necessarily mean like the train/opera scene(though I'm not against a longer one), I'm thinking more like him picking up his dad's stethoscope and briefly remembering him. It took all of a minute to show that.

Of course.

Sure, but they should only play a part in THE DARK KNIGHT if they're contributing to the story at large. I personally think his acknowledgement of his parent's memory can be done without using such clunky items as flashbacks. As someone suggested, hanging their picture up in the restored Wayne manor would be nice, or a brief graveside visit.

Rumor has it that Flint Marko is the real killer of Bruce's parents in TDK.

UH OH! RETCON, RETCON!!!

^ Hahaha. Nice.

BLAH I can't believe I wasted money on Spider-Man 3...

Continue... :)

Actually, I would like to see more flash backs. It would expand upon the psychological characteristic of Batman. After all, the change is mental, not just a costume.

Flint Marko also killed Daredevils faather, Bruce Banners Mother and Cyclops entire family. Its ok though he foregives him :venom:

Very strange how that other thread exploded with SM3 hate and was locked out but, not before spreading to a couple other threads first. You get these weird SM3 malatov coctails that blow up unexpectedly from time to time. I like it.

be awesome for the opening scene to be a nightmare of the murder of bruce's parents.

I watched 'Begins' last night and the movie underlining factors is Bruce relationship with his father and how he was trying to live up to his father life as somone who always tried to help people (being a doctor) even in the worst circumstances (when Joe Chill was robbing them as well as building an economic train system) which seem to be the Wayne Legacy as Alfred also tells him that his great grandfather used to cave to hide runaway slaves.

I'm hoping in some way that TDK would focus on Bruce's relationship with his mother and trying to live up to her legacy.

In some comic storylines they had MArtha Wayne as more than homemaker but she worked with runaway, homeless or abused kids.

This would be a nice way to have Bruce tie in with his philanthropic causes by helping to sponsor A sheltor for runaway children in crime alley (and hopefully bring Leslie thompkins in the movie)

I don’t think we need to be hit over the head with it. I like the subtle touches. I think maybe showing he kept the burnt thesiscope and the picture in the library would be great. I always loved in the animated series, the shot of him standing there, taking a moment for himself before continuing the mission.
