Thomas Jane pulls out of Punisher 2!!!!!!

independent I would say is a movie like Crash. Hell even The Hills Have Eyes was an independent movie. Arthouse movie, I would say is The Cider House Rules or Billy Eliot. I'm not saying they are bad movies, but they usually don't require a big budget like the Punisher would need. A typical indie or arthouse movie is done with 10 million or less. Whereas the Punisher needs a minimum of 3 times that much. LGF can't put that much into a movie and it not pay off in theaters.

That's some expensive indie and arthouse movies!

Average indie film is under £100,000, typically £40,000 or less.

Hell did you guys see the Rambo 4 trailer. That looked more like a Punisher film. I loved it. I wish stallone would have done the Punisher back in the 80's. Oh well now we get one disguised as Rambo. Awesome!

Only problem is that Frank isn't Rambo. And it looked like a Rambo movie, not a Punisher movie (But, I see what you mean. ) The attack on Saints and Sinners that was the Punisher.

He is above doing a s***ty sequel to the Punisher. He wants to do the character justice, the LGF don't, hence why he pulled out.

Again...the first film made no money in the theatres. 53 million worldwide however the 60+ million on DVD rights saved this franchise from vanishing. No way this will go direct to dvd. If they can break even in the theatres and make all that money on dvd they'll do it again.

Yep I have to agree. The first movie was sweet, the only thing is that it had some stiff competition. I don't blame the movie breaking even on the cast and director, I blame the studio for crappy marketing. It was a great film yet it wasn't seen because most people didn't know about it. Studios need to take responsiblility for not backing their films, marketing can help a movie have some legs.

Terrible news cause Jane had made the role his own and he became the driving force behind the sequel.

But it's understandable that he jumped ship though, afterall more than 3 years have past since the first movie - how long did we expect him to put up with this development hell? He obviously had the movie's best interest at heart - the script didn't live up to his very high standards and something just snapped and he made this tough decision.

Hopefully Marvel will get the rights back because Lionsgate are joking around. The studio that makes such hardcore R Rated stuff like the Saw and Hostel films are hesitant about a hardcore Punisher movie.*shakes head*

But will Lionsgate give the next Punisher director more money than the first? I doubt that. The Saw and the Hostel movies bring in hundreds of millions of dollars in box office receipts alone. And the combined budget of those (Saw, Saw II, Saw 3, Hostel, Hostel II) is less than one single Punisher movie.

Great Examples...Someone should post the scene of Frank making Jimmy Weeks shoot himself..thats some of the best acting Thomas Jane did, so dark and haunting: "Im here to help..."
