You focus on Asgard and the nine realms and you miss the point of Thor entirely though. Marvel have this problem as well. Thor was meant to be a god as super-hero in the modern world and he's been relegated to god as god doing godly things in other realms against mythical opponants in a time lost viking culture.

Thor is the god of protection of mankind and son of the Earth so I don't get why people want him to stay in Asgard all the time. Thor is the character who will always choose Earth above Asgard or plop down Asgard on Earth to have his cake and eat it :p
Isn't that kind of what Avengers is for, though? Thor mixing with Earth's heroes and establishing himself as one of their central figures?

I agree that Thor in the comics is great as a hero on Earth doing Earthly things, but I can understand why they'd want to focus what limited time they've got in the movies on Asgard and space. Those are Thor's unique things compared to the rest of the heroes getting movies right now.

Earth is boring. Besides, it already has other superheroes to defend it.

One thing that's rarely (if ever) been touched on, even in the comics, is the profound spiritual and philosophical impact that Thor's mere existence would have on humanity.

The dude is a *god.* A living, breathing god of ancient legend. His existence *proves* that pagan "mythology" is anything but; and that would have colossal consequences on the established monotheistic "our god is the only god" religions that dominate the world today. Not to mention the impact on atheists and almost all scientists, whose rigid worldview about "no such thing as gods or magic or the supernatural" has just been turned unceremoniously ass over teakettle.

At the other end of the spectrum, Thor (knowingly or unknowingly) would develop his own messiah complex on Earth, as literally *billions* of humans would turn to him as their savior, their Jesus, their Mohammed, their Buddha.

So maybe it's best that Thor stay far, far away from Earth. His presence here could cause a holy war so goddamn big it'd make the Crusades look like a badminton match.

This is exactly what I was getting at, well said Corp.

But Modern Day Earth can be so booooooring! I'd rather see worlds of great beauty and great devastation. I see too much of the real world. I'd rather see fanciful worlds of imagination.

I agree 100%

I still would like to see Thor in atleast one EPIC "extended" fight that takes place in the big city in one of the sequels though.

I'm interested in seeing Thor's power affecting the buildings around him, and I know we're gonna get a bit of this in the Avengers but the spotlight will be shared with 5 other heroes.

Man, to have IM3 and Thor 2 in my state... I'd be in Heaven. My dad has a place near Wilmington so I'd be all set for the extras work.

I live in Durham myself, but I would be in Wilmington in a heartbeat if MS decides to shoot Thor 2 there. Big Natalie Portman fan.

I would love to meet and work with her, if at all possible. But I hear she's really low-key and I doubt you would find her at any of the Wilmington restaurants after shooting, unless it's a vegan restaurant.

Agreed.

I just hope that the events of Thor 2 doesn't just take place within the span of 2-3 days.lol

Your right. Thor II should up the ante and take place in...............2-3 hours!!

Well in a way Earth's in the middle of all the Asgardians worlds....and SOME Asgardian villians are a tad more powerful than what the Avengers can handle. :D

I'm glad Thor II will have more of the nine worlds in it.

Live in Durham as well. It would be bad for my marriage if Natalie Portman graces this state for the shooting of Thor 2, if it were to happen.

You like Natalie Portman? :) I used to like her but she did alright in Thor. I like Jaimie. She's a goddess. :D :p

You mean to say you liked Natalie Portman until you saw Jaimie in Thor as Sif? Can't say as though I blame you though. If I was a guy like you I'd want a tough little cookie like Jamie as a girlfriend. :cwink::woot: If I knew her in real life I'd think her BFF material because she's a bit of a tomboy like me. Oh, and I'd also set up a date between you and her too. :D

Gotta admit that Atwell is the goddess I prefer overall of the Marvel ladies. Love Jaime to though. I've never been all that high on Portman honestly. I like women with an hourglass figure myself. :hrt:

I liked her when she was in the star wars prequels but that got died down very fast...There are other actresses I like then and still do...but there is something about Jaimie that makes me happy that she got to be Sif and not only that, she got to star alongside Chris Hemsworth who I think is cute and ...yeah.

I recently purchased a poster of Jaimie as Sif. Its the one with the text "Goddess of War" written on her face. On her face, man! Oh yeah.

Anyway... I hope she gets a bigger role than what she had in the first one, and the others too. I guess it depends on the script. Won't know until next year.

Me too. :hrt::hrt: and I totally agree with your post.

But considering how Avengers ends he doesn't lay down roots at all. Loki is an Asgardian problem. To be fair to them though, Thor rarely fights anyone not tied to Asgard anymore anyway.

Is it really accurate to have a Thor without that attachment to Earth? That hasn't been established yet. I'd rather they stay true to the core of who Thor is. It would be like doing a Superman movie without him being a reporter because doing a story set on Apokolips is bigger. Its fine but it doesn't really capture the feeling of 'Superman'. Its the same as when they thought Thor should be set in the Viking era. Why? Thor has never had a significant part of his continuity in ancient times, not like Cap in World War 2. It would be different but not in the spirit of Thor.

Oh I have to agree, we need to start seeing more of Sif and her warrior's spirit. I think focusing the story in a more universal setting will gives a chance to develop Sif's character more. Plus Jaimie is quite a capable actress herself so she can handle more screentime.

Fandral: Of course.

lols I've been doing a bit of writing myself. Been working on this fan fic that is at least a page and a half. Plus there is this other fan fic I've been writing too that is based on a dream I had. lol It has a bit of a underworldish feel to it.

The thing that caught my attention is in that press release for IM3 shooting in Wilmington, is this sentence "Another reason Marvel choose Wilmington to produce “Iron Man 3” is the large local crew with experience handling five simultaneous productions."

I'm not a betting man, but I have this feeling that Marvel will schedule another film to shoot either simultaneously or right after IM3 in Wilmington. Thor 2 comes six months after IM3, so I don't expect MS to announce where that's shooting until early next year. But with New Mexico making changes to their film incentive program, I wouldn't be surprised if MS moves elsewhere to shoot the sequel.

My favorite Marvel lady is Jaimie with Haley as my 2nd favorite, I'm an hour glass man myself and while Portman is beautiful she's still too "flat" for my tastes.

Ah yes, Fandral. I just love how Josh Dallas portrays him. He is very Errol Flynn-like indeed. I'd say if they ever need an actor to play Errol Flynn himself they have a perfect candidate right there.

And now that the stress of having to single handedly move out an entire apartment has been taken care of, I am free of that stress and can work some more on my Thor Movie Universe fanfiction too.

Would anyone else find it hilarious if we find out in Thor 2 that Thor has gotten the chefs and cooks of Asgard to recreate Coffee as a primary drink there?lol

In any case, I really hope that the sequel includes more shots of the inhabitants and citizens of Asgard.

I wasn't a big fan on how we never saw the daily streets of Asgard filled with its civilians in the first movie and that the only time we saw regular citizens was during the crowning ceremony.

It also would be cool if they showed (or even mentioned) Vanaheim and its Gods.
