Thor: The Dark World Trailer Thread

Oh my God please no nobody wants to see Thor's shrieking girlfriend flying around hammering dark elves - someposterwhosnamenobodyremembersandisn'timportantanyway

Agreed. I'm afraid if that happens we should expect Caps new girlfriend in CA:TWS, if he has one(or a love interest) to get a variation of the super soldier serum and whoop Bucky's butt. Then Betty might get gamma radiation in The Avengers or Hulk movie......okay, now I'm being silly , lol. It would definitely suck if that was the route they went with Jane. Comic canon or not, I personally don't want to see that.

That's what I'm thinking, hell that's what I'm praying it is because that would be SWEET! :woot:

The color really makes me think it is cosmic cube energy. I know what you want, but I was just basing my opinion on the look. :yay:

Yeah I understand, I didn't mean to come off offensively it does resemble cosmic cube energy so that's reasonable. It just look like there were some lightning sparks in the clouds that spread during the explosion, so it could be lightning as well.
Perhaps Thor explodes something using a lightning infused hammer shot? Does the gathering of lightning in the trailer have the same sky? I think it might.

I wasn't being serious.

Also I remembered. It was ElMariachi.

I knew you weren't serious. Honestly I don't know much about Thor comics in depth, so I didn't know if that was true but just wanted to say if it was canon, I personally wouldn't want to see that unfold. I love Ironman 3, but Pepper whooping Killian bothered me more than the Mandarin twist. I know this is the Thor thread, but I never asked before...how did Pepper even get the armor on her hand? Did I miss Tony directing it to her or what?

That would suffice as well, idk whether I'd like for it to be a melee attack with Mjolnir or a hammer throw. Oh and I don't know, I think the sky was a good bit brighter in the scene where Thor gathers lightning.

Well to be fair, IM had already put Killian on the ropes by exploding the Mark 42 so he deserves more credit than Pepper. Because even with those Extremis powers Pepper would've been pummeled by Killian who was basically the King of Extremis soldiers.

Why was Pepper killing Killain so horrible, I don't get that? She had spent the entire second half of the movie as a damsel in distress (which the previous two films avoided) and Tony did all of the work before then. Let Pepper have a moment of badass, it shows what a idiot Killian was for making her a SS in the first place. Also, Sharon is a SHIELD agent, so she may kick some ass. Heaven forbid these characters be more than love interests to be protected and saved.

Like I said, Iron Man had already pretty much brought Killian to near death Pepper just finished the job.

Agreed, Big Thor. Besides, Pepper had just as much of a reason to hate Killain as Tony did, if not more so.

IMO,you already had Tony "kill" Killain in probably the best villain death in the IM films, only to have him pop back up,just so Pepper (completely disregarding her usual character's behavior) can have the moment. So everyone can say "Oh look. She's not a "damsel in distress".Oh aren't we progressive."

But...back to the topic.....

Because the hero is supposed to defeat the villain, not a side character. It's been a problem in all the IMs, not once has Tony Stark defeated the villain on his own. But in IM3, it is noticeably worse as Stark is utterly defenseless against Killain. Suddenly, the "Hero" of the film becomes the damsel in distress. Awful.

They cannot all be like Batman and his epic takedown of Bane....

Oh... right.... Uh, carry on then.

Oh, here we go.

This is probably my fault. Maybe. A little.

Yeesh.

That was awful as well but for very different reasons as Batman had managed to defeat Bane on his own just prior to that.

Anyway.... Pretty cool trailer.

I wish these trailers would contain more of the actual score from the film in them. I guess Doyle is not done yet. The music for the trailer was nice and all, but we have an established sound for Thor now. Use some of the previous film's score, by the beard of ODIN!

Doyle is not doing the score; Brian Tyler (IM3) is doing it.

Well that is disappointing. Thor has the best soundtrack of all the Marvel films. And Sons of Odin is easily the best theme song from any of the Marvel films.

Killian kidnapped and tortured Pepper, both to punish her for rejecting him and to use her as leverage to make Tony help with Extremis. After all she went through at his hands it was fitting that she delivered the death blow. Best of all, the ending of Iron Man 3 turned the lame-ass "Hero saves his defenseless girlfriend" trope on its ear. But then, the entire movie did nothing but subvert worn-out genre tropes for 2.25 hours, which is probably why so many hate it.

Instead, we got girlfriend saves defenseless "hero". Good to see the titular hero being one-upped by a secondary character.

I would have been happy with Pepper saving Tony from Killian. But having Pepper come in and defeat the villain for the hero is not a good storytelling decision. At all. The hero is meant to overcome the villain in these stories, that's the whole point! But, unfortunately, that was stolen from Stark in this film.

Actually... That's not bad. I hadn't thought of that, but the subversion of tropes for the entire runtime might be more of an explanation for fan fury at the film than even the use of the Mandarin... People just use the Mandarin as a catch all reason?

Hopefully DARK WORLD will be a little more... Straight forward?

Again.I mean,Pepper was the one to beat Stane (technically speaking). Tony also needed an assist from War Machine to beat Vanko.

It just reeks of fear to me.It's as if they were so afraid that Pepper would be called a D in D,that they just tacked it on,hoping to satisfy any "progressively minded" viewers.

I think Sam Raimi said it best in the SM 2 commentary when he said he had to explain to Dunst that MJ couldn't be the one to beat Doc Ock.The fact that she tried to help Spidey is admirable, but no one goes to see one of these films to see someone other than the hero, beat the villain.

I really liked the score of the first movie but from the looks of this trailer I think this should have a bit of a darker score, at least for parts of it. This new threat is much more malevolent than Loki was, as he never was truly evil. I still want to see some themes being reused by the new composer though, although with as much change that's been done to the visuals I guess the music is pretty likely to change as well, new composer and all.

THOR's score is very big and epic at times, but you're right, it is also "bright" and filled with uplift most of the time. I guess we'll have to wait awhile to see if anything from the new score is released for general consumption before the premiere.
