Three Thousand Years Of Longing

Well that’s quite a poster they have there.

The cgi already looks dated. Thought it would be better.

I think the stylized nature of the cgi makes it work.

Really, who blames Tilda Swinton for summoning Big Elba?

It has a $60 million budget on top of Covid complications.

But aside from that, there's a storybook/fanciful aspect to the footage that means the more stylized CGI works fine.

Really I don't care much as long as the story is good. Effects get dated, that's inevitable. A film lasts based on the impact of its story and/or overall form.

I think with this its fine. The genie's stories are like fables and morality tales and he is a magical being so when the film shifts to his memories and stories some artistic leniency is allowed.

Based on my personal experience seeing djinn's dissolve into smoke, I'd say that Miller nailed the SFX. :word:

Rookie numbers. I had a 12 minute standing ovation in Cannes for making two tumblr gifsets right before I went to work. :o

Jesus Christ. 22 minutes?? I’d be ready to start a fire at half that.

17 minutes for Neon Demon? What a waste of energy.
I honestly think Nicholas Winding Refn's a better actor than director. His performance in Death Stranding was surprisingly quiet good. And no, it's not because he keeps dying in it.

I enjoyed both Drive and Bronson but thought Neon Demon and Only God Forgives were insufferable. I want to eventually see his Pusher trilogy.

Despite my issues with all of his other movies/show, I will always love Drive.

Reviews have been pretty mixed on this but sounds like it has its merits.

I really feel like Miller caught lighting in a bottle with Fury Road because prior to that, all we had was Happy Feet and Babe as anything to measure his recent merit. It doesn’t surprise me if this gets mixed reactions.
