I´m not sure about casting, but I could see Charlize as Cheetara and Ving Rhames as Panthro. Aaron Eckhart or Eric Bana as Tygra? Coiuld be. Lion-O is tricky, cuz he´s only eighteen... But Paul Walker? No way.

Could it be, friends and foes, that "Thundercats" simply can't be translated into a live action film?

Ving Rhames or Dennis Haysbert would be pretty cool as Panthro. Djimon Hounsou could work too.

I think it can, actually. If Transformers can be turned into a movie, I don´t see why Thundercats can´t. The basic storyline has potential, if you cut out some of the cheesier elements of the cartoon - you yourself had some interesting ideas on it. Make-up can make the actors look like the actors, and Spider-Man-like FX can translate their cat-like strength, speed and agility. To turn the Thundertank into an actual prop would be an interesting challenge.

Mila Jocovich as Cheetara would probably give me a happy heartattack. Oh lord i'm getting more excited than is good for me just thinking about it. Someone get photoshopping stat!

Ian Mcshane for Hammerhand

Michael Clarke Duncan for Panthro

That's all i've got.

Some great suggestions here. I just can't see a live action movie working though. Sure, it's perfectly possible to make them look right, but they are still just a bunch of animals, unlike in He-Man or Transformers. I think the only credible movie could be a completely CGI one.

You might be right. Which leads to the question: who can/should do what character's voice? I could easily see Keith David (Goliath of Gargoyles) being the new voice of Panthro.

for lion-o (in spirit of the whole, mind of a child lol), how about Steve Howey
he's got a good size (at 6'2ish) and a decent enough look for the role

I could see that. Also, I'm loving the WilyKit/WilyKat suggestions from phoenixflight, and though I don't know about him playing Bengali, I'm all for getting Daniel Dae Kim some more work. :) Oh, and Ben Kingsley as Lynx-O is a cool idea, too!

I would also like to nominate Michael Dorn as another potential Panthro.

Lets get into casting a bit of the extended universe like the Lunatacs and Hammerhead and his crew...

I honestly can't think of anyone who could play the Lunatacs or Hammerhead & his cronies.

PS: Dennis Haysbert, now another official Panthro suggestion.

Who should play younger Lion-O?

it kinda depends on who you cast as adult lion-o (to get someone who might look, somewhat a like) though, i might say, Josh Hutcherson, could be intersting (depanding on how young you wanna go)

I think young Lion-O should be at least 5 years younger than Wilykit and Wilykat. It should be clear that he physically eclipses them in the stasis. If the Wilys were around 18-20, then young Lion-O should initially be 13-15, before ageing to around 25.

Josh, is 14, so, i don't know, i guess that still might work
i liked that suggestion of David Gallagher, Michelle Trachtenberg for, kit and kat, and their like 21ish

How about Michael Ironside as the new voice of Mumm-Ra?

I´ll take a risk and suggest Ben Foster for Lion-O. I think he´s a good actor, he can build up, he looks around the right age - remember, Lion-O is only eighteen when they land - and I think he can convey intensity with some angst and also innocence.

LOL

no, but, really i see where your coming from with that idea
I'll say, he's alil short, (like 5'9") other then that i wouldn't hate it, wouldn't be my personal first pick, but, thats just me

Liono.jpg

Found that from a link on a Thundercats thread at IMDB. I find the 2007 Lion-O (right) very scary looking.

as, cool as it would be to get a new Thundercats cartoon, if they made the characters look like that, I wouldn't be to happy
(not liking the style, thought it is well made, and looks good, quallity wise)
why does everything need to have a "jap"anime influence these days

I honestly don't know why everything needs a "jap" anime influence these days. While I support the idea of Lion-O having pants and a real shirt, I don't support the scrawnier build; 80s Lion-O (left) looks like he could twist the 2007 version into a pretzel with little difficulty.

A Liono that actually looks gayer than the original. I never would have thought it possible.
