Tim Burton's Dark Shadows

Okay. The complaining has to stop. Tim Burton and Warner Bros. have been working together for 27 years. When have they NOT been misleading with their advertising? Let's take a trip down memory lane:

BEETLEJUICE TRAILER

BATMAN RETURNS TRAILER

SWEENEY TODD TRAILER

What's misleading about Beetlejuice or BR? I just watched your links and while dated in their editing techniques, they both represented their films very well.

I didn't know much about "Dark Shadows" so I really thought she was playing the wacky robot of the show lol

The hair and pale skin makes her look artificial.

Almost like the alien woman from "Mars Attacks"
Honestly, I got that vibe too, but I figured her character must have smoked a little something for the party. :oldrazz:

She's a doctor/therapist who, at least in the show (which we may be straying FAR from), is the first to figure out Barnabas is a vampire and tries to cure him. She also falls in love with him and when the cure doesn't work well....things get a bit tense.

That may be dropped from the movie all together from the looks of it.

Honestly had no interest in this. But you know, that trailer had me laughing. "They tried stoning me..."

Actually looks really fun. I can't believe I'm saying this.

Now that I've gotten over my initial shock of not knowing what to expect, it looks okay.

they both represented their films very well.

The Beetlejuice trailer sells the film as a screwball comedy with Michael Keaton playing a prankster. It doesn't focus on Adam & Barbara who are the real leads in the movie. And it ignores that Beetlejuice actually kills the living and is a constant pest to all the characters in the film.

The Batman Returns trailer hides the violence in favor of the action scenes. Anyone who saw that trailer in 1992 had no idea that they would see the Penguin biting a dude's nose and seeing his blood squirt all over the place. They had no idea that the fat dude in the trailer gets blown up by Batman. They had no idea the movie would end with the Penguin's mouth full of black blood. Considering this film was made for children and had a McDonald's Happy Meal campaign behind it, don't you think it was irresponsible for WB not to warn parents about it? At the time, some critics even complained that the PG-13 rating was misleading and it should have been R-rated. So yes, the Batman Returns trailer is incredibly misleading.

I smiled once during the trailer. Didnt look to atrocious, but it didnt make the film prove its existence either.

I was never quite sure what to make of the film before hand but it's looks far more entertaining than I anticipated. With Depp and Burton's names attached this could be a bit of a sleeper hit.

this is how the movie looks? this is what WB was afraid? this looks like a decent movie and they dont promtoe it ? f. you WB .

i am watching this.

Yeah it looks like a bit of kooky fun, which is probably a good bit a variation given we're gonna be pelted with superheroes and other action films over the next few months.

the first half of the trailer made it seem like it was going to be something like Sweeney Todd or Sleepy Hollow, but the last half pretty much turned into a light comedy

doesn't look bad

Eva Green looks so hot

All I know is thatb the old TV show wasn't a comedy at all.

This loooks like just another drama-into-comedy adaptation, much like Dukes of Hazzard or Green Hornet. And it sparks ZERO interest in me.

Just watched the trailer. Now I understand why they couldn't figure out how to promote it. The tone is all over the place. Anyway, looks like some sort of a spoof, in a good way, I laughed a couple of times, definitely interested in seeing more.

The whole 'is it a horror/is it a comedy?' thing reminds me of An American Werewolf in London. That film was so genre-bending [rarely seen at the time] that the studio didnt know what it was [or how to market it], reviewers didnt know what it was [and gave mixed reviews] and the audience didnt know what it was [and the box office was so-so].

What did happen though is that the movie has since over time been seen differently by some and it has become a bona-fide classic.

You can tell WB didn't know how to market it so they went with the comedic angle. I doubt it's this comedic or even defined as a comedy when it comes out. Trailers are pretty deceiving anyway so I wouldn't judge what this movie is like based off this trailer.

Despite all that, it looks pretty enjoyable.

I came in here to post basically this.

Johnny's eyes point you to the trailer on the offical website... creepy.

For some reason, I always assume the girl in your avatar is Jewish.
